>>541898 >Decline and Fall on the meme history list
Woah now. That's one meme too far. Decline and Fall is a verified masterpiece. Putting it next to anything by Jared Diamond is disgraceful. Are you hating on it just because of its popularity? Or are you just a butthurt Christfag?
For example, I've read most of the Bell Curve (some chapters just didn't interest me at all, sue me) and I understood it. It's hard not to since they break everything down very well and honestly they sometimes linger on topics for too long in an attempt to make their points crystal clear.
But with that being said, having understood and liked it I have to admit that book was dry and dull as fuck. And I can imagine most people who don't get aroused at the idea of reading through 600 or so pages of statistics would agree with me.
>>541898 damn this is a fucking pleb list. I know it's bait, but we really need to come up with something better before people actually start believing it
>Gallic War - Julius Casar >The Histories - Herodotus >The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire - Edward Gibbon okay these are actually good.
lets split this into arbitrary groups of historical literature, contemporary literature, and philosophy. I'll add some things and we can argue about them. If we argue enough, I can a recommendation image that follows whatever consensus.
>historical literature Gallic War - Julius Caesar The Histories - Herodotus Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire - Gibbon The Analects of Confucius The Bible/The Qur'an (perhaps Asimov's Guide to the Bible) The Art of War - Sun-Tzu
>contemporary literature The Great War - Ian Beckett Cataclysm: The First World War as Political Tragedy - David Stevenson A History of the English Speaking Peoples - Winston Churchill An Introduction to the Archaeology of Ancient Egypt - Kathryn Bard The Ancient Celts - Barry Cunliffe The Cambridge Ancient History Records of the Grand Historian: Qin and Han Dynasties - Sima Qian
>Philosophy Plato and the Socratic Dialogues Rhetoric - Aristotle Diogenes Meditations of Marcus Aurelius Discourse on Method and the Meditations - Rene Descartes etc.
Philosophy/Religion isn't exactly my field of interest, and this is just a quick list so feel free to pick this post apart and suggest others and better things
None of us read, but we know that GGG is wrong because something about >muh domesticated zebras and that we like The Bell Curve, which is the only /pol/ book on this list - and most of you seem in favor of it.
>get recommended a book by a friend >"it really changed my perspective on things man" >I read it >Its just some sanctimonious luddite trying to convince people that humans were better off as a species as hunter gatherers, with a sizing helping of 'da white man ruins everything' thrown in
I am so fucking sick of people falling for the hunter gatherer utopian society meme
