The Orthodox Diogenes
>born a serf
>goes around shoplifting and giving to poor
>walks around wearing nothing but chains
Y'all better know who I'm talking about here.
>If I took those splints off would you die?
>is a Russian Orthodox saint of the type known as yurodivy or "holy fool for Christ"
>and giving to the poor to shame the miserly and help those in need. He went naked and weighed himself down with chains. He rebuked Ivan the Terrible for not paying attention in church, and for his violent behaviour towards the innocent.
>When he died on August 2, 1552 or 1557, St. Macarius, Metropolitan of Moscow, served his funeral with many clergy. Ivan the Terrible himself acted as pallbearer and carried his coffin to the cemetery.
That's actually quite a beautiful story.
I thought so.
I think stories of Holy Fools tend to be very beautiful in general, and obviously Dostoevsky did too, since they are a running theme in his works.
REI KOZ, probably an actual """"mad"""" man
>THE END WILL OCCUR WITH THE AETHER, AND THE AETHER WILL PRECIPITATE THE BEGINNING; DO YOU FEEL THE COLD? IT IS COLDER NOW, BUT ALSO HOTTER; DO YOU FEEL THE HEAT? COLDER DAYS, HOTTER DAYS, COLDER NIGHTS, HOTTER NIGHTS, COLDER YEARS, HOTTER YEARS; THERE IS SOMETHING BEYOND THE AIR.
>ALL WILL BE WASHED FROM ABOVE WITH THE COLD FIRE OF FURIOUS LOVE; NONE WILL BE BEYOND THE PURVIEW OF THE AETHERIC HERO, BELOW THE CANDIED SKY.
>HIGHER IN SPACE, THE SKY BECOMES SMALLER, AND THE DEEP RISES TO THE HORIZON; FURTHER IN TIME, THE FUTURE CLOSES IN ON ONE, AND THE INFINITE HORDES OF THE PAST RISE FROM THE DEAD.
So I told Mosley to leave the government and Labour party to establish a fascist parry instead, and he actually did it. Absolute madman
Only an absolute madman could come up with something like the madman theory.
>I call it the Madman Theory, Bob. I want the North Vietnamese to believe I've reached the point where I might do anything to stop the war. We'll just slip the word to them that, "for God's sake, you know Nixon is obsessed about communism. We can't restrain him when he's angry—and he has his hand on the nuclear button" and Ho Chi Minh himself will be in Paris in two days begging for peace.
Continuing with the 'holy fools', there's the 'Great Accomplished Ones', low caste wizard-saint Indians who lived between the 8th and 12th centuries who achieved some form of enlightenment and had names like 'The Wise Washerwoman', 'The Divine Cobbler', 'the Mad Princess', 'Siddha Two-Teeth' and 'The Rejected Wastrel'
>Why don't more so-called Christians do something similar?
Why doesn't everyone do something similar?
If you'd like it would make the world a better place, why aren't you doing it?
We are all called to be saints.
