Come here for history'n shit, every fucking thread devolves into a argument about race. Seriously this board was a mistake.
It used to be comfy, but recently there has been a lot more /pol users coming here.
I remember not having ANY hitler threads, now there's always at least three.
It's literally one fucking guy, all the posts are written the same way
>inb4 this thread devolves into an argument about race
Why do christians brag how we neopagans aren't followers of our religion because we don't follow it the same way as our ancestors("hurr you're just a larper cuz you don't have human sacrifices") when today's christians don't follow original christianity( gnosticism) and have forgotten original christian philosophy and gospels in favor of a corrupted form conjured up by Romans?
Organised religion was a mistake. Unincorporated animist monotheist spiritualism is unironically superior.
I don't really care about your tree worship. All I can do is call on my personal experience with people who claim to be pagan. They were all awful, and more often than not they didn't even seem to believe it. They just practiced it to "rebel" against the status quo.
Christianity was never the same as Gnosticism per say. They existed side by side with the two influencing one another and the dividing lines being ill-defined and blurry but after a certain point the church fathers which generally were anti-Gnosticism defined Christianity as we know it today.
How did ancient Roman culture influenced todays western civilization?

How didn't?

for starters, you posted this writing in the Latin script.

Wrong. They didn't have lower case letters.
What are your thoughts on socialism?
>>2909092
Just read up on Karl Marx's biography and tell me if that's the type of dude you want crafting your political ideology.
Worst mass murderers of the 20th century have been socialists (Hitler, Stalin, Mao...)

What exactly is neo-confucianism? Is it basically confucianism without religious elements? Japan seem to have a lot of thinkers influenced by neo-confucianism, was their a link between them and the meiji restoration?
Neo-Confucianism is basically an ultra conservative version of confucianism that took hold around the Song and Ming Dynasties. The previous dynasties, namely the Tang and Yuan, was buddhist and foreign influenced. The Tang Dynasty heavily promoted Buddhism and had a lot of foreigners, the Yuan Dynasty was buddhist and was foreigners. On top of this, the Tang Dynasty in particular was very very very liberal. If you look at Tang clothing, you will know that the women's clothing was free flowing and often showed cleavage, they also became more liberated and were able to own businesses and divorce their husbands with second and even third marriages becoming increasingly common. Just go to /pol/ and read about the degeneracy of the West if you want to know how conservatives felt.
Now here's where my theory comes in. Everything beyond this point is my speculation.
Neo Confucianism was a China first, ultra-conservative, xenophobic, right wing authoritarian movement that was created from the backlash from the liberalism and foreign influence that was the previous dynasties. They tried these new policies and guess what? It didn't work, these foreigners under An Lushan caused so much trouble in the Tang Dynasty, the mongol Yuan Dynasty foreigners conquered them and then oppressed Confucianism. They tried the liberalism, they then decided to look inward, and reflect on what made china great before, what was the root of chinese culture and civilization. In other words: "make China great again".

Sorry stop reading when it turned into a buzz-feed article.
Did Deng Xiaoping change China for the better or Chiang Kai Shek was suited to be a better leader?
>>2908967
Deng Xiaoping will be remembered as one of the towering figures of the 20th century, he did more than any one person to put China on it's current path.

From Hitler Dindu Nuffin (/pol/) to muh Hiroshima (/pol/ and I suspect /a/), it looks like the Axis gets hoards saying they dindu nuffin. And I ask, how come?
>>2908733
Its more apt to say the allied powers dindu nufin after violating neutrality of just as many nations as did the Axis powers.

What do you guys think of the great man theory of history?
Is history motivated by great personalities or does history create a role and some completely replaceable asshole step in and fill it.
If Napoleon had not been born, many other ambitious French would still be available to fill the Napoleon's role.
>>2907286
Just because many people probably were as smart and as charismatic as Napoleon doesn't mean they could of filled his role.
Place and time was just as important as his personal characteristics as a individual.
>>2907767
>Place and time was just as important as his personal characteristics as a individual.
Napoleon shared the same time and place with many other officers
Napoleon's place and time was very important to Napoleon, but was it important for French history?
>>2907286
While I think traditional historians overplay the "Great Man" theory, I think modern historians underplay it.
Think of how influential an inventor Leonardo Da Vinci would have been if he had been born in the 18th or 19th centuries, for example.
Conversely, think about how Steve Jobs or Bill Gates would have been "Literally who?"s if they had been born 20 years earlier or later.
Why were they so terrible?
