When exactly did wars started to become serious shit instead of a past-time, Europeans did for fun?

Was it Napoleons invasion of Russia?

What were the first serious, most bitter wars that people didn't want to lose at all costs?

How did the Bolshevik's prevail during the Russian Civil War? Was it their ability or the white force's inability that caused them to win?

did European countries really improved themselves because of colonialism and getting rich by taking ressources from their colonies ? i see alot of others saying it was an economical burden and that the West didn't destroy the colonies. so what is it really ? redpill me on colonialism please

Yes and no. King Leopold obtained a lot of personal wealth from the Congo but not so much for the state. Many countries benefited from the resources, labour and potential soldiers from the conquered territories but sometimes colonies were a bit of a drain, Germany was drained by its African holdings and Bismarck even said he hoped Germany wouldn't establish colonies because of that, Italy's also drained it somewhat.

Profitable colonialism occurred in places like the British Raj, Dutch East Indies and foreign power concessions in China (British, French, Japanese) which actually did deliver a lot of wealth to the colonial master, especially India which was the ever important heart of the British Empire.
>>
That's an excuse by Marxists/racial egalitarian to justify the white race''s wealth and Afrixa''s poverty. The most developed African countries are the most colonized.

the only thing important is that they messed with a different culture, forever changing the history of the continent. calling it good or bad is just a matter of perspective, the invaders will claim they brought development, the invaded that they brought guns.

It unironically wasn't. The Means of Production were in the hands of the state, not the workers themselves.

In the early days they achieved meteoric growth and progress in every area simply by not being as retarded as the Tsar. Post-WW2 they were able to barely drag themselves along through a combination of natural resources and foreign loans. By the 1980s they literally couldn't pay their debt or grow enough food to feed themselves.

Why do some societies have more tolerance for casualties in war than others? America had massive war protests despite less than 60,000 Americans dying, yet North Vietnam (a much smaller country) withstood over half a million military casualties and 65,000 civilian casualties.
8 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Because the United States public saw no clear benefit to continued military engagement and the North Vietnamese public did.

Remember, America suffered 400,000 KIA in WW2, and most Americans remember that as one of the greatest moments in their nations history.

If anything, its astonishing that the American public would allow thirty thousand people to be killed for no appreciable reason before the first troop withdrawals began.

People back then had a lot more faith in their leaders.
>>
Because the USA was invading whilst vietnam was defending themselves from imperialistic invaders?
>>
America tolerated casualties better in WWII because they felt they had something greater to fight for, Vietnam just felt like a useless imperialistic war taken over from France. This was also at a point where Americans were placing high value on individuality rather than any sort of collective. Collectivist societies are generally more willing to accept that someone died 'for the greater good' than societies that are skeptical of anything that impinges on individual liberties.

In this day and age, is it possible for a work of art (writing, music, movie, etc.) to profoundly impact the culture by itself? Has this ever happened before? I'm thinking of Uncle Tom's Cabin, Common Sense, The Jungle. What circumstances would there have to be to have a work of art affect American/world culture in such a way that it would noticeably change the attitudes of the zeitgest?

>>
>>2901161
I think mostly the work would be recognized as revolutionary only by fellow revolutionary thinkers at first (for example, the Enlightenment movements) which would then dissapate into mainstream thought. I truely hope Extentialism is the next big thing, we humans really have to clean this shit up.
>>
>>2901182
To answer your question, I don't think a single piece of art or media or entertainment would have any large scale impact. It would be more of an ideology slowly spreadig, which would then be tied into media and entertainment.
>>
>>2901161
>Extentialism is the next big thing
explain what you mean, what aspects would become mainstream and what would that mean for the culture as a whole?

1. THE ORIGINAL PRIME DEITY OF THE ROMANS WAS SATURN —ANCIENT ITALY WAS CALLED "SATURNIA".

2. THE CULT OF SATURN IS AN ARYAN CULT; JEWS APPROPRIATED SABBATH TO USE IT AS A SLY AND SPITEFUL WAY OF CELEBRATING YHWH ON THE SAME DAY AS NONJEWS WERE CELEBRATING SATURN.

You should know tripfag that Sabbath means "seven". Sabah in Arabic (Hebrew/Semitic languages) is "seven" and is the day of the sabbath

One thing that has boogled my mind is the use of this word. The connotations I will forever associate with it is as a pejorative term for your stereo typical craft beer hitler cut of the early 20teens. But as those trends die and new ones develop, what word will follow suit? Surely the word evokes too strong of connotations to those trends as did the now obsolete word 'mod' of the 60s.

“Hipster” is a term co-opted for use as a meaningless pejorative in order to vaguely call someone else’s authenticity into question and, by extension, claim authenticity for yourself.

It serves no conversational function and imparts no information, save for indicating the opinions and preferences of the speaker.

Meanwhile, a market myth has sprung up around the term, as well as a cultural bogeyman consisting of elusive white 20-somethings who wear certain clothes (but no one will agree on what), listen to certain music (no one can agree on this either), and act a certain way (you’ve probably sensed the pattern on your own). One may be quick to coin such interests and garb as "black-rimmed glasses, flannel, and indie music," however said mainstream-avoiding "hipsters" will logically turn down abiding to such a popular consensus, voiding the interpretation null.

You can’t define what “that kind of behavior or fashion or lifestyle” actually is, nor will you ever be able to. That’s because you don’t use “hipster” to describe an actual group of people, but to describe a fictional stereotype that is an outlet for literally anything that annoys you.

The twist, of course, is that if it weren’t for your own insecurities, nothing that a “hipster” could do or wear would ever affect you emotionally. But you are insecure about your own authenticity - “Do I wear what I wear because I want to? Do I listen to my music because I truly like it? I’m certainly not like those filthy hipsters!” - so you project those feelings.

Suffice it to say, no one self-identifies as a hipster; the term is always applied to an Other, to separate the authentic Us from the inauthentic, “ironic” Them.

tl;dr: if you believe hipsters exist, you are a plebeian.

Why exactly do terms need to be perfect representations of a construct in order to be useful? We have certain monikers (Hippie, Hipster, redneck, Hillbilly) which can represent a wide range of behaviors that all have commonalities.
