When all other options have been thoroughly exhausted. It is not biological imperative to kill yourself so it takes a great stress to cause that sort of behavior. Therefore, suicidal behaviors are usually due to mental diseases or negative outside influences. If you kill yourself without seeking help and committing to the help provided, you do yourself an injustice by ending your life when a solution could have been right around the corner.

Contemporary morals mostly state that suicide is bad no matter the situation due to the collateral damage is causes. The best case to combat this is to alienate yourself from anybody who ever considered you a friend or at least a good acquaintance, move somewhere unknown, then kill yourself in the wilderness. Being missing in the public is less morally reprehensible than suicide, as those who might forgive you when they learn of your disappearance will retain hope rather than despair that you will be found.

There are tons of different perspectives on this, but I'll share the thoughts of Albert Camus.

Camus is known for his work on a branch of existentialism called Absurdism. Other people can probably summarize what the Absurd is better than I can, because I haven't thought about it for some time, but it's something like -- "Man is a product of the universe, and he is being that searches for meaning, yet the universe is meaningless (and probably deterministic). Isn't that ironic?" This causes man to feel despair, which is kinda funny, you see? Man tries to impose his will onto the universe, and loses hope when he finds out that the universe does not work for him. It's absurd.

Anyway, Camus says there are three options. First, the most difficult, but the one which he thinks is correct, is to embrace the Absurd. That is to fully comprehend your meaninglessness, and to continue to live nevertheless, as a kind of act of defiance. Therefore, by defying the universe, you create a meaningful life. The next is psychological death, which is to stop thinking about the Absurd because it makes you feel bad. The final is physical death, i.e. suicide, which is to kill yourself because thinking about the Absurd bothers you that much.

So, because Camus is an existentialist, he isn't concerned about whether anything is moral or immoral, and that includes suicide. But he equates willful ignorance with suicide, which is an interesting thought, and denounces both as the wrong choice, without imposing a moral judgment on it.

From a Legal perspective, it is absolutely not permitted to hear anyone contemplating to commuting suicide and not intervene by notifying the authorities.

Personally I believe that suicide by choice should be legal weather it's for medical reasons to reduce suffering, general old age or reasons unlisted!

So long as the person is legally considered able to govern oneself in every other aspect (financial...), and does not need a representative guardian, they should have humane legal and medical access to end their life!

For example they convene their physician and a lawyer, sign a legal document set a date and time.

Then they can check into a facility where they if able bodied self administer the medication to end their life under medical supervision!

However I strongly believe in the rule of Law, observing and upholding the law at all times, until the law is amended.

The Mongols didn't take religion very seriously. They accepted all religions in their empire and adapted and converted pretty much all the faiths they ever encountered.
Maybe the Rus just didn't exert the same amount of pressure on their conquerors or it didn't seem as pressingly necessary as converting to Islam seemed with the Abbasids.
