Today was my first lecture at a prestigious University (I mention this only to establish that the lecturer I will talk about is not some nobody) in my 200 level US Civil War class. Our prof basically opens up the course by saying that Union victory was anything but inevitable and that the popular belief that they would eventually win no matter what is false, and that they were at risk of losing right up until the final days.
I am no expert but I am fairly certain this is not the case. Tell me /his/, is she correct?
>>3372404
Are you really, truly asking if you, an undergrad, are smarter than your professor, who at the very least has a Master's in the course she is teaching.
I want you to name any book you've read on the Civil War. Take all the time you need to respond, don't worry I'll bump the thread.
>>3372404
The Union had industry, logistics and manpower working in its favour but such things can be negated by the Confederates having more competent soldiers and generals who could deliver a knock-out blow before the Union could mobilise its superior resources.
>>3372416
*spoiler* they didn't *spoiler*
Why has the U.S. spent so much time and effort fighting communism? I get that it is an inefficient economic strategy and a flawed ideology, but why fight wars over it?
for profit and also because having a bogeyman to fight against internationally is an excellent way to distract people from problems at home
>>3372286
Because it could take over colonies or attack western Europe.
>>3372311
>Some of the most expensive and financially egregious subversive operations undertaken in human history
>for profit
how come people stopped building aqueducts and how did they transport large quantities of water into medieval cities without them?
they didnt they still exist today they are all over the world they just dont look like big limestone constructs anymore you moron
>>3371254
Basically the old aqueducts still worked so there was no point in building new ones.
>>3371254
Large-scale building projects require a lot of political stability, which is something that Medieval Europe wasn't very good at.
a society that lets their women have a say in things will be dominated by a society whose men don't allow it.
>>3371177
Think of the opposite of what you wrote.
Ok, but how is this history or humanities? Perhaps /r9k/ or /b/ is better for you.
>>3371177
Germanics are ugly, i see those pigs and only want to kill them
Fuck germanics
What can /his/ tell me about the Russian Civil War?
>>3370684
Im going to derail this thread right off the bat and none of you can stop me
>>3370950
Can you remind who won again?
>>3370684
Eternal Kraut ruined Russia, 80% of Red army officers in Siberia were profesional German officers sent there by Cuckhelm, KolchakĀ“s autism caused no public support and not reaching DenikinĀ“s troops to march on Moscow together as general Gajda suggested.
How do Brits feel about being more Germanic than they are Celtic?
>>3369532
They seem to love their German monarchy
>>3369536
Would you?
>>3369532
Relieved. Celts (Irish, Welsh, Scots, Cornish) are subhuman.
Why should I care about what happens to you?
>>3369304
you don't have to be. but crime never pays
>>3369304
Why should I then care about what happens to YOU?
>"Objective morality exists, for example murder is wrong"
>why?
>"would you want me to kill you?"
Why do people act like this makes sense?
>>3369021
God made it law, is that good enough for you?
>>3369021
>only humans can understand the concept of morality
>humans can't factor human experience when talking about morality
Let's talk about math, but let's use only nouns that describe colors.
>>3369021
>Why do people act like this makes sense?
Then what makes sense to you?
What is the future of Christianity?
>>3369010
>What is the future of Christianity?
To sit there and fester like the cancer it's always been...
"Jesus is Moses Jr."
Scumbags...

Who knows? It's probably going to eventually wither into very small but vibrant communities who still hold to their old traditions, while the vast majority of them will either go atheist, or incorporate the vague, inchoate, heretical conceptions they have of Christianity into some other form of spirituality more suited to the succeeding age.
Christian imagery will last for a long, long time, but pretty much no one will have any idea what it really meant. The remnants will be considered weird cultists, at best.

The Duce didn't deserve that. I'm not even a fascist.
>So much for the tolerant left.
>I trusted the Germanic
Its actually very possible for Germany to win ww2.
You are transported to Hitler 1936 and have the jobb of advicing Hitler to win the war what would you tell him?
Focus on uboats exclusivly.
Make sure to capture the brittish at Dunkirk.
At the battle of brittain focus exclusivly on radar installations and their airfields and airforce.
Invite Spain to the Axis after the defeat of France and have them invade Gibraltar.
Support the China instead of Japan.
Make peace with the Ukranians.
Offer Cyprus, Georgia, Azerbaijan to Turkey if they join the Axis.
Help the Italians from the start to take Grecce.
Capture Malta and send a larger expedition to Africa
Never declare war on USA
Fortify Normandy more and go with Rommels plan of having response units closer to the beaches.
Dont waste paratroopers on Crete.
Never attack Stalingrad instead shift troops to Moscow.
Dont spend reasources on killing jews instead use them as slave labour better.
Focus on building jets and nukes.
Help Finland more with troops and material.
I don't think it was impossible for Germany to win a war against the U.S.S.R. in the 1940s. I think the issue is that it was impossible for Nazi Germany to achieve its war aims.
>>3367700
No way man if Germany took certain steps and had certain knowledge they could have won no doubt.
>>3367714
Hitler wouldn't have taken those steps.
What if?
>Zimmerman Telegram wasn't sent
USA didn't join WW1
>Austrungary Gives Italy new Territories
Italy joined the central Powers
Would it end in a stalemate?
I mean, without Italy, there is no Vittorio-Veneto and the collapse of Austria Hungary. And without the collapse of A-H, Germany has no real urgency to seek a surrender in the autumn of 1918, especially when there aren't a few million fresh American soliders across the border preparing a spring offensive.
>>3366861
Um, AH would have collapsed even if they won
>>3366818
>implying the British wouldn't find some other nefarious way to pull America into war
Redpill me on the Roman conquest of Greece. Why couldn't' the Greeks resist the Romans?
And is Romans culture just a cheap knock off Greek's?
>>3366706
Excellent post
>>3366703
Rome wasn't able to conquer Greece on its own, it was forced to ally with the Scythians, Mesopotamians, and high kingdom Egyptians. Even then, it was quite difficult to defeat the combined forces of Athens, Sparta, and the Macedonians.
>>3366706
>>3366714
/pol/ please.
Exactly how bad were the SS? Is there any truth that SS units were kill on site for US troops like displayed in the movies? Why would you join the SS?
>>3365381
Join the SS for prestige and best waifus
>>3365408
I was expecting a high five at the end desu. Kinda disappointed
>>3365413
The master race doesn't hit one another like American barbarians.
What would china look like today if the Qin had failed their wars of unifaction?
>>3365206
Unification* sorry for misspell.
>>3365206
It would be like Europe
Divided and balkanised
>>3365227
Was gonna post this. Would be a hell of more interesting desu
