No, I won't.
I'm working as a painter this summer and have time to listen to audio books for around 4 of the 8 hours that I work. I've been mostly just listening to fiction books like Ender's Shadow or The Things They Carried since it's pretty easy to pay attention to the story but I want to read more history so could you guys recommend some great but fairly simple history books which I can listen to while working? Thanks.

The Second World War by Antony Beevor is a pretty nice introduction, I think. I don't know if it exists in audio format, though.
>"States begin to fail when they cannot tell the bad citizens from the good" - Antisthenes
What did he mean by this?
>>2998465
Probably that no government can survive if it treats all citizens like suspects or criminals. There is simply no way you can still have a functioning state when it takes from other programs to spend a disproportional amount of it's resources on pointless measures that only end up antagonizing the population. Think of the collapse of the eastern bloc, although that was obviously not the only factor at play.
He also could have been referring to the fact that if leaders do not trust their citizens, they become increasingly paranoid, insular, dictatorial, and dysfunctional, which can only lead to their fragility and collapse, be it at the hand of revolts, coups, or invasions.
>state entrust power in the citizens
>dick-ass citizens betray country
>state kills actual good citizens because they confuse them from the dick-ass ones causing the originally loyal citizens to stop giving a fuck
>citizens that say they're good attacks other citizens in confusion while destroying all social and political foundations in the process
basically no one is going to make a state with each other if they don't like each other
Was he the hero A-H needed?
>>2998462
He was. He was actually sympathetic to the radical cause that ended his life. Ironic. Violence begets violence.
>>2999065
Wasn't it the case that he actually hated Serbs but was sympathetic to giving them and various other ethnic groups more autonomy to "fix" A-H?

He wanted to get rid of dualism, thus turning AH into Austria again.
Friedrich List said that a country's markets needed to be protected before they could enter the world stage.
What are your thoughts on this?
>>2998413
Protected from what? Foreign competition? People deserve cheaper goods, even if it means buying from abroad. Protecting domestic market is effectively subsidizing inefficient companies.
>Urban and suburban protestant retards killed Queen Mary I
>England didn't become a Habsburg state
>Were it not for unwashed anglo scum all of humanity would have been united under one God and one emperor by now >under an actually viable, decentralized internationalistic model
>wanting to be under the autism of the Hapsburgs

Also big chins are very seemly
I'm looking for a list like this, but for the Russian/Soviet navy instead of the US navy. Something that shows how force levels grew/shrank over the years.

Focusing on solely Nazi Germany in history lessons rather than covering both it and the Soviet Union.

>A KV-1 or KV-2 tank (accounts vary) advanced far behind the German lines after attacking a column of German trucks. The tank stopped on a road across soft ground and was engaged by four 50 mm anti-tank guns of the 6th Panzer Division's anti-tank battalion. The tank was hit multiple times by these guns but fired back, disabling all four guns. A heavy 88 mm gun of the division's anti-aircraft battalion was moved about 730 metres (800 yd) behind the tank but was knocked out by the tank before it could score a hit. During the night, German combat engineers attempted to destroy the tank with satchel charges, but were unable to, despite possibly damaging the tracks. Early on the morning of 25 June, German tanks fired on the KV from the woodland while an 88 mm targeted the tank from its rear. Of several shots fired, only two penetrated the tank. German infantry then advanced, with the KV opening machine-gun fire against them.[24] The tank's resistance was finally ended by grenades thrown into the tank's hatches. According to some accounts, the crew was buried by the German soldiers with full military honors; in other accounts, the crew escaped during the night.[24]
Can anyone recommend me some reputable books on the history of Japan from the Meiji Restoration to 1945?
>>2997891
sure
i enjoyed Peasants, Rebels, Women and Outcasts by Mikiso Hane
Japan's Total Empire by Louise Young
Primitive Selves by E. Taylor Atkins
these were from a college course i took on early 20th century imperial Japan and don't really cover the Meiji restoration or the Bakufu. You might wanna open it up with a book covering the Boshin war and Satsuma Rebellion as well as the early Meiji project of modernization and bringing Japan into the community of nations.

Hey. I fell asleep, but thanks for your recommendations.

It is "Peasants, Rebels, and Outcastes"

Today Ace delves into the history of Color Film Pre-1920. Please note that because he tried to focus on World War I specifically, an audio recording of the battlefield on the Western Front was included at the end as well.

That would Kostantin Rokossovsky. Marshal of Poland and Marshal of the Soviet Union, served as Defense Minister for Poland and was famous for executing Operation Bagration, which paved way for the Soviet liberation of Belarus after 3 years of Nazi occupation of the Belarussian SSR. Belarus lost over 2.2 million people out of a population of 9 million people.
