To what extent was trench warfare used in the American Civil War?
I saw earlier in a trench RP thread some guy posted a dixieball saying
"
>europe just discovering trench warfare
Lmao get with the program"
or something like that, this sparked my interest, was the American Civil War a blueprint for modern trench warfare?
>>3003682
Nope, earthworks were used in seiges as SOP during Napoleonic warfare. The ACW was fought mainly with linear tactics, but to a much bloodier scale.
You could make an argument that the Fraco Prussian war was using trenches as well, just look what Von Bredow was up against in his death ride.
But it would be the Russo Japanese war where trenches, bolt action rifles, machine guns, and advances in artillery forced trenches as a necessity.
What do you think, or what would you like to see our race achieve within the next 200 years? Assuming we reach some sort of global golden age we'd probably be fascinated with preserving our advancement and the survival of our species Ideally I'd love to have centers for Asian Black and White on Earth the Moon and Mars with data centers interlocked using advanced methods to have sensors that read multiple variables from the atmosphere that would (at least) ensure our survival against the nature of our galaxy.
What would you think would exist on your ideal world? Do you think most of the land would be used for humanitarian work IE power farms and verticle gardens.
What about a resonance happening with the existence of more reality-altering drugs and more people actually leaving their houses for these fares due to the escapism.
Experiencing a lifetime in a single day, maybe an hour.
That could be our realty
A grand proposal:
Do you think psychedelic drugs should be part of the human culture, and that we should be able to openly talk about the entities we see within them
I concur

What exactly would be the point of living in your "utopian" future? I tend to equate the cessation of necessities with death
It's a death-like state of being, at least
At what point is it no longer LARPing?
>>3003395
When you become POTUS
But no one wants to admit this because of pic related
all of life is larping
WTF was he thinking?
> "if Napoleon could take Europe, why couldn´t I take this whole shithole of a continent"
or maybe
> "Fuck this jungle, what I need is a nice coastline"
I my grandfather just died and in his lock box I found this strange metal. Can any pol historians help me figure out what this is?

This thread was just moved from pol

Thanks for that! I'm assuming it's more important than a commemorative metal because it was locked up with a bunch of valuable watches and thing.
Interestingly enough I don't have any Russian family history... so I was thinking that it may have been taken from a Russian soldier since my ancestors fought the Russians in both world wars
Cur mihi causa ne ab infidelibus defendere Sanctam

>also sucked big time at being President
That settles it. Voting based on a person's righteousness is retarded.

Agreed
This man says that the Syphinx was built around 38,000BC which was the second last time the earth aligned with the consultation of Leo (which is supposedly the reason the syphinx was built for).
Is he right? It's apparent the syphix is older than what is the official record at the moment but 38,000bc seems absurd.
>>3002635
He placed the sphinx at either -12,000-14,000 bce (((OR))) 38,000 because that was when Egypt would have had the correct climate conducive to the water erosion marks around the sphinx.
I think with the development of research at places like gobekli Tepe and catalhoyuk 12,000-10'000 doesn't seem irrational or outside the bounds of human potential.
If the Mongols went past Hungary they would've still been successful in war and would've conquered Western Europe

Here's what happened after the Hungarians actually built stone fortifications like western Europeans.
What happened to the mayas? Is it true they just vanished or is that just a meme? If I know correctly the official answer is that they died of flu's the europeans brought to america and they generally migrated to other societies around their past territories, is that true?
>>3002600
>What happened to the mayas?
They still exist, didn't go anywhere. Their civilization just collapsed at some point and they had to go full Mad Max mode.
>>3002600
The Maya civilization, the one which build the cities and what not, collapses centuries before the arrival of Europeans to America because of war, resources management and what not. Their descendants, ethnic Mayas, mere able to maintain their language, written and oral, traditions, and so on, but were divided and never attained their past glory.
During the conquest, Diego de Landa burned all the book and writings in Maya and ordered to kill anybody who was able to read, write or teach the language. There are many ethnic Mayas around today.
They didn't die because of the flu, that's a meme to try to downplay the role of the massacres carried on by Europeans and deaths by forced labour, similar to how Southern American try to downplay the role slavery had as a case to USA's civil war.

This is one the very few accurate maps of bronze age Anatolia, most other """maps""" include iron age regions/kingdoms like Lydia or Phrygia in an anachronistic way, this map, on the other hand is perfect.
So did every royal family practice incest?
>>3002482
Same reason all Muslims do: tribal societies value keeping resources within the tribe, therefore they tend to marry off their daughters to fellow tribesmen.
>>3002482
Abraham married his own half sister.
If that isn't God giving you a thumbs up to fuck your own sister, idk what is.
>>3002482
No.
Why didn't Germany unleash it's chemical weapons against the allies in WW2? Retaliation from the allies wouldn't have been a problem since the allied chemical weapons could be countered with gas masks unlike German nerve gasses that could be skin absorbed. WW2 era tanks didn't have NBC protection so disasters like the Battle of Kursk and the Battle of the Bulke could have been won by Germany, leaving them with thousands of captured enemy vehicles.

I don't think that chucking cannisters that contain a cloud that sends your enemy into fits of screaming and choking before sputtering to death is a particularly good way to keep morale in the middle of the russian winter.
>>3002364
because Hitler got gassed in WW1 and decided it fucking sucked, so he never used chemical weapons (against the Allies)
Because Hitler experienced what it was like to be a victim of a gas attack and he did not think that soldiers deserved to suffer such pain.
