You have to choose one out of any armed conflict in history to take part in as a private. You can change your nationality as you see fit. Choosing a specific battle not necessary, but welcome.

So after researching the Boshin war and the Satsuma rebellion, is it safe to say the Imperial Army did nothing wrong?
>Okay guys time to turn in swords and join the modern world
>NO I WANT TO KEEP KILLING PEASANTS, MY TITLE AND CLASS MEAN TOO MUCH TO GIVE UP
>You can't keep cutting down peasants forever we need to keep up with the rest of the world militarily and some ruling class of peasant killers with a family lineage doesn't work
>REEEEEEEEE FUKKA YUUU
>Boshin war
>WE NEED TO INVADE KOREA RIGHT FUCKING NOW
>We haven't finished industrializing yet, Saito. We'll invade Korea when our country is ready to do so.
>REEE, FUKKA YU, WE INVADE KOREA NOW, SAMURAI REBERRUUUU
>Satsuma rebellion
Were samurai autistic?

The men who fought for the imperor by in large did not want to abolish the samurai, they may have wanted to modernize but in the same way European nations still had an a nobility the samurai did not want to abolish that. Even reformers like Ryoma envisioned an upper parliament and a lower one similar to the British system.
In fact most imperialist didn't even want to modernize, they wanted to kick the foreigners out of Japan, not learn from them. Their leaders realized this was a really stupid idea towards the middle of the conflict and basically went around the rank and file.

there's two big facts you ignore:
1. The samurai were a step inbetween european noble class and peasants and was class was big enough to number in the million give or take a couple hundred thousand. Unlike European nobles, the samurai class wasn't supposed to lead the army with an elite unit. They WERE the army, and knew no other crafts.
2. Despite being the army and doing way more than your average noble, the peasants still saw the samurai as basically oppressors and would discriminate them if given the cahcne
By abolishing the Samurai, you condemn nearly a million people to unemployement and discrimination, with little chance of getting another job because they only knew how to make war. This was quite simply a formula for rebellion as it's considerably unjust, steep change on a very integrated system.
To make matters worse, some of laws bordered on humilliation - you didn't need them to cut their hair, let them keep it as a fashion statement
Invading Korea was to many Samurai a good way to end their social class. They would have gladly gone underarmed as cannon fodder if it meant they got to die as their ideals dictated.
The Satsuma rebellion was not intentional but a product of typical japanese fanaticism / personality cults.
The whole concept behind the Ronin - unemployed "masterless" samurai that often turned to crime and thievery was an early symptom inherent to this Japanese social issue.
Joking aside how influential where the actual black rulers of history (The Muslim Mali and the Christian Ethiopia) to the rest of the world ?

well mansa musa was so rich that when he went on hajj he destroyed the middle eastern economy by giving out that much gold that it became worthless as a commodity
>>3044164
>"Whenever a hero adds to the list of his exploits from conquest, Mansa Musa gives them a pair of wide trousers...The greater the number of a Dogari's exploits, the bigger the size of his trousers."
seems like a pretty based guy 2bh

""""Being influential"""" is a hollow meme and not important. Japanese culture is vibrant and beautiful and influential, but only because economic success created media that the world latched onto. Ethiopia has a rich culture but no one cares about it because Ethiopia is a poor country and the masses assume its only ever been a bunch of staving kids in grass huts.

It's brutal stuff. Hoss' tone-deafness is also amazing. He genuinely seems to have had some component of his moral sense missing, that or he tried hard to cover up his agency in his writing.

Does this board have moderators?
Yeah they delete threads from time to time but it doesn't help much, the userbase itself is cancerous and there's no fixing that.
Yes.
They only delete/ban threads that blatantly break the rules in a most egregious way, they give a lot of leeway otherwise, I kind of like it this way, /his/ I unironically has decent hotpocketeers.
Do you guys know about non-intuitive immediate knowledge? Its rejection led to the death of philosophy in the 20th century, don't you know.

Did you know France created the first scientifical police in History ? And not just a boring police but real elite cops with cool gadgets and carte blanche to do anything they need to catch bad guys.
They were called "Brigades du Tigre" (Tiger's bridages) because Clemenceau, minister of interior and "first cop of France" at the time was called the "Tiger" by the political class.
To join the brigades, you had to be teach about all the newest scientifical methods to fight crimes (they were the first to create a central data of fingerprints) but also had to handle the latest technology (early cars, modern hanguns) and had to be fit and proficient in martial arts including Savate and Combat Canne. Yes, canne. Take a look at that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFqh4IKSA64
They were mediatic heroes and caught some of the most famous criminals of the time like the anarchist group "La bande à Bonno"
James Bond stole everything.

No, I did not know that, thank you French Anon.
>>3043178
The Paris Police of the 17th century during Louis XIV's reign was also the first modern police force.
>>3043196
Yes but the Tiger's brigades were the first "mobile" police force, meaning they didn't have to stick to one sector and had full jurisdiction on any criminal case, no matter where.
Pretty much like an US marshal if i'm not wrong
I'm very interested in Yoga and I've read about Patanjali but what I haven't found and want to know is why didn't they do strength training/Calisthenics? Was that not necessary for them? Why didn't they excercise with repeated movements? I don't even know if this is the right board.

Well, keep in mind that many of the Buddhist, Jainist and Hindu sects/groups throughout Indias history have advocated austere diets if not outright occasional fasting. Members of the Buddhist Sangha during the time of Buddha's life were instructed to not eat after the mid-day meal.
Most Buddhist, Jainist and Hindu monks/ascetics would obtain their meals by going from home to home begging with their alms bowl and would eat very little a day. Most of them spent their time meditating, in yoga, conversing to their guru/teacher or slowly walking from place to place. These people would be pretty skinny and not have a lot of muscle but would be in okay shape from walking and meditating and not eating excessively.
Aside from the fact that exercise for the sake of simply increasing muscle size/strength goes completely against the tenets and attitude of Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism; any sort of strength training would dramatically speed up their metabolisms and would mean their bodies would need way more food, drastically worsening their hunger if they didn't get it. It would make no sense for someone who receives their food from begging to try to be developing their physique.

Yoga literally means "union" or "linking up" and refers to linking up one to God. It's first and foremost a method to withdraw the mind from the senses in order to directly perceive God. Yoga in the West, specifically Hatha Yoga, has somehow become known as primarily some sort of exercise for physical fitness, but this is not the case at all. Hatha Yoga does produce great health effects for the physical body, but these effects are merely secondary to the primary mental purification effects it has. If you really want to learn the process of Yoga read the Bhagavad Gita.
