the official NATO twitter account just tweeted some sort of trailer for a documentary about latvian partisans who fought against soviet occupation. lots of people in the comments calling said partisans nazis and NATO making light of waffen-SS atrocities in the baltic states

why did Japan declared war on America in wwII when they were aware the could not win the war ?

They were thinking they could cripple the Pacific Fleet of the United States and take majority of the DEI, British Land, Indochina, and the US territories to continue to fuel their war machine + have enough time to set everything up to fight the US to stalemate.
They highly underestimated American patriotism, viewing the US as weak merchants (One thing to be noted in American history, is when you kill a bunch of them/or harass a bunch of them, you piss off the country to the point that it will go to war and kick ass.) At best they thought it would take the US 6 months to get going in the fight, the Japanese also invested more into Battleship than Aircraft Carriers.

Overall yes, especially after Pearl Harbor + Everything Japan did to Guam/Philippines. If we include how badly Japan acted throughout all of Asia then Japan is the bottom of the barrel.

To add to what this anon said, the Japanese government at the time was completely dominated by the military, so all they did was look at a map, see the position of the Philippines and say: shit, if it comes to war the us cuts our empire in half, we have to take the by surprise and capture it first.
They never consulted with any career diplomats who had lived in America about whether their conception of America as weak willed and decadent was realistic or not.

Hello /His/, after a very long and frankly irresponsible delay, Episode 2 of The Three Komnenos is finally out!
Covering the First Crusade, the establishment of the Crusader kingdoms, Byzantine relations with the Latins in both the West and East, and Alexios's Climatic battle with the Turks on the plain of Philomelion!

Wars and kings don't really interest me at all, but I've recently realized that I love history if I'm learning about the more "mundane" aspects of life -- how they built their houses, how they dressed, how they made things, their opinions on all sorts of topics, etc. I'm looking for youtube videos about these topics mostly, but I'd be interested in any source of information.
I really enjoy Jon Townsend, Lindybeige and Scholagladitoria on youtube. That's what I want -- just a dude telling me the facts straight up, unlike documentaries which are a lot of filler footage and some guy rambling in generalizations. Do you guys have any recommendations?
I'm most interested in European history before the 18th century but I'll take anything.

There are two terms you want to learn: "Alltaggeschichte", which is German for "everyday history", and "social history", history as viewed from the commoners. Any books using those terms will help.

Which slavs did the nazis kill within the lebensraum? Were they like "you be slav I must murder you" or they killed only the slavjews or the partisans? They couldn't have killed each and every slav considering they garnered support even with their not so clever policies in that area.

they obviously focused on Jews, Sinti & Roma.
During invasions they often killed the elite (intellectuals & clerics). I think they also resettled some people and tried to populate areas with Germans. At the front, they immediately shot every political commissar they found. POWs didn't have much chance of survival, they were sent to labour camps and were treated way worse than say English or French POWs. Partisans were killed if captured, and in case Partisans struck the Germans hard they retaliated with burning entire villages and killing the population.

Poles, Russians, Belarussians (1/4 of them), Slovaks (even though they were not officially deemed to be "lebensraum'd", they sometimes got killed for the lulz), Ukrainians, Czechs, Rusins. Pretty much all of them.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. As long as you were a good slave and didn't happened to be at the wrong time at a wrong place or near the wrong Germs you had solid chance to survive.
