So I just finished niall Ferguson's civilisation (audio book). Anyone else checked this treatise out? Up to but not including chapter 5 its almost as good as jarred diamonds. Chapter 5 to end seemed like niall wanted to get his word count up.
What are some other good preferably audio book works I can work my way through?

Kenneth Clarke's "Civilisation" and Bronkowski's "The Ascent of Man".

How concrete have borders historically been?
Say for example, 18th century Europe?

I live in Germany, and if you wander around forests and hilly regions, you can still find old (literal) milestones from the 18th century. Basically a rectangular stone block, the width of a loaf of bread, but a metre high (designs vary), with the year and a name chiseled in, although most are pretty eroded. These were used to demarcate borders.
Europe's pretty crowded, relatively speaking, so borders were jealously niggled over.
What are some of the biggest underdog nations? Either nations which did a lot without being part of the bigger picture, accomplished a great deal in context of what they had/stood up to forces far more powerful than them.
Particularly looking for smaller nations which then transformed into bigger nations for whatever reason, and the basic history behind this.

Unironically this, the creation of Great Britain under the acts of union led to the closure of a french route into a land invasion bia scotland, which led to total British dominance on the Isles, which led into the creation of the British Empire, that being said, fuck off jacobite scum.
How come it took zoroastrianism so long to die?
Persia has been conquered in 651, over 70% of its holy text has been lost yet there are still a few practicioners left and they will probably linger for a few more decades. Manicheans, pagans and gnostics disappeared pretty fast, how come this has so much staying power even after being utterly defeated by stronger religion?
>>3084821
LARPers lad, current ideological trends embarrass them so they reach out to something old which they have romanticised and think is superior.
>>3084827
It's almost impossible to convert to Zoroastrianism dickhead, it's why their faith is such a minority
When the Romans wrote of the Jewish God, they identified him with Saturn, adding that Saturday was the holiest day to the Jews because it was Saturn's Day. Is this the only quality that caused them to identify their religion with Saturn, rather than Jupiter, the chief sky deity? And if so, why when the Romans adopted Christianity did they identify their own God with attribues of Jupiter rather than Saturn? Were they aware of the etymological puns at work with Deus/Dio/Pater/Iou-pater? And what God if any did the Greeks identify the Hebrew one with?

What is the source on Roman identification of Yahweh and Saturn?

Sanchuniathon.
Eusebius of Caesarea.
What does it represent?
Nothing, it’s just a plot device in fantasy novel written in the middle ages.
Kind of like the One Ring in Lord of The Rings.

Is there any good documentary on U.S Naval fighter planes (specifically Corsair)? I was thinking of reading Boyington's "Baa baa black sheep", but some documentaries wouldn't hurt too.

Was the city of Carthage just burned and sacked or was the city seriously physically obliterated to the point where there weren't two stones on top of each other left, as some say?
>>3084426
Probably, there are no buildings from The pre Roman layer afaik
Well except for The tophet but That's a cemetery/burial ground
I think it was just burned/sacked but then when the Romans built over it they demolished way more of the foundations than the army did. Though I might be misremembering. Read that "Carthage Must Be Destroyed" book if you want a good detailed account that goes over archaeology and shit.
Why do white people try to claim Ancient Rome, when they were separated by the alps?

Could Pearl Harbor have been prevented?
>>3083742
>Allowing yourself to be attacked as an excuse to get into a war

>we dindu nuffin

>>3083742
If the US knew they were to be attacked at Pearl Harbor, why wouldn't they do something to better prepare for it? Instead of letting their enemy get away untouched they could engage them and inflict causilties. The would hurt the capability of Japan to wage war but still have the declaration of war and public outrage they desired.
Or if that wasn't an option they could have tried to do something about the Phillipines so Japan at least wouldn't be able to steamroll all of SEA
