Most places did, unfortunately. The streetcar conspiracy is overstated, and even without some unfortunate levies placed on companies with regards to road maintenance most of the streetcar networks were unprofitable and seen as obsolescent by the mid century. Seems crazy the lack of foresight people had that would make them abandon light and heavy rail networks despite population growth.
