The Cantino Planisphere made in 1502 by the Portugeuse. Brilliant to see how far our horizons had broadened.

Earl made a single expedition into modern day NorthEast Canada and that's it. It's doubtful that even met more than 5 tribes.
When you realize the Hapsburgs/(or Austrians) caused Spanish war of succession and both world wars...

If every pre-1945 military, in human history, was resurrected and went to war with the United States, and it's entire military. Who would win? The U.S. can use nukes.
This also includes all U.S. personal/equipment that died or fell out of use before 1945

Why did Somalia collapse in the early 90s?
They were known as the "Switzerland" and even settled disputes across Africa.
What happened that made them decline so rapidly?
>>3173185
The same reason most African countries collapse into civil war. Their leader was an authoritarian shithead who was more concerned with enriching his bank account and playing the tribes off each other than with actually leading his people.
Also, post rare Operation Restore Hopes

>They were known as the "Switzerland" and even settled disputes across Africa.
u wot m8
They actively sponsored terrorist groups in Kenya and Ethiopia, squandered all their foreign aid on weapons for a (failed) war with Ethiopia, and managed to piss off the Soviets so badly that they launched the largest airlift effort they'd conducted since the Second World War to help Ethiopia slap their shit.
They're practically the antithesis of Switzerland.

Why do people give more credit to Charlemagne over Charles Martel, the true hero of our story?
>>3173035
Because Aquitaine was holding off the Moslems just fine until Martel stabbed them in the back, and then he stepped in to "solve" the problem he created himself.
Not to mention the real war between Christianity and Islam was going on in Byzantium, not France. Thinking Tours or Martel is important beyond the rise of the Carolingian dynasty is the ultimate sign of a military history pleb, or worse, a Creasy fan.

HMMM WHO TO CHOOSE
is their a cultural region why that shit show of a movement develop exclusively in France
>>3172968
Because parisians enforce new trends with strict brutality and Paris is inhabited by mostly spoiled and pampered faggots who diddle themeselves in café de la Femme Rouge Écoute or some gay shit to tumblr traps and modern art "museums."
the French since the Enlightenment (at least; maybe someone else knows more about medieval French intellectual culture) have always been the more impressionistic, utopian types among the three core Western/Central European philosophy powerhouses (Britain, France, Germany). their middle class was also the first to emerge basically of its own will and desire to reorganize society to accommodate their very existence, an idea that then spread globally. it makes sense that that culture would later produce an episteme based on the notion of ideas forming society in their image.
you could also assess it negatively (as in a negative image) and look at why Germans and Britons and Americans didn't. Germans were excessive empiricists after the war 'cause their idealism had led them to be out of control asshole nationalists, and the British and American middle classes were incredibly economically secure through the '50s and '60s, leaving few academics (typically drawn from the middle class) incredibly resistant to the prevailing order of things. the French middle class was incredibly culturally humiliated and economically dejected after the war.
because france is shit
The cure for all existential conundrum is regular exercise.
Or maybe go outside and spend time in nature.
