>Let's allow our best soldiers and even our finest noblemen to kill each other in a sporting event.
What did Medieval Europe mean by this?

>>

Soldiers were the niggers of Medieval Europe.

If you didn't give those murderhobos an avenue for violence and booty, they'd fuck off to somewhere else and then you'll have no soldiers.
>>
>>3220893
You mean tournaments? Early tournaments were not a spectacle. Although that is what they eventually became tournaments in the early stages was a place where nobility and rich people could get training in warfare, before actually going out into warfare. They were much more violent as they only existed as work experience.

If you can't survive a tournament, how are you going to survive a real war?
>>
>>3220893
Bitches dig it, and if there are no wars going on, your 20+ years of martial training are a bit pointless.

>if the rise of Hitler and WW2 hadn't happened exactly when it did, Europe would have been overrun by communists and there would have been a nuclear war in the '60s
how wrong is this statement?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
If it wasn't for WW2, the USSR would have a lot less clay to work with, and communism as a consequence would have been much weaker, seeing a united anti-commie front.
>>
>>3220829
WWII literally allowed the USSR to march in and make commie satellites in Eastern Europe.
>>
>>3220829
Enormously wrong. You hadn't actually seen any expansion by the USSR from the time Stalin is in charge until you have the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.

Because most of China isn't that naturally fertile outside of areas along the rivers. Chinese population is able to swell because you have an extensive centralized state that provides enormous agricultural infrastructure enabling things like irrigation and fertilizer to reach the farther corners of the country.

Every time you get a major war, rampaging armies destroy most of that infrastructure, and if it isn't quickly repaired, you get endemic starvation. That's usually how you get these absurdly high death tolls in major Chinese civil wars.

so how come christian states like the HRE, France, and Hungary managed to last a millennium if not longer in a mostly peaceful europe but everything went to shit in the 18th and 19th centuries

was it (((masons))) or the (((renaissance))) or the (((eternal anglo))) or something else?

I just want to know why all of those christian monarchies were peachy for 1000 years and then you had all these sudden failures like the 2nd reich and the french revolution

Has anyone else in history ever gone so quickly from "well respect authority of his field" to "batshit crazy pseudoscientist?" The only reason anyone's brought up Freud in modern times has mostly been to point out how nobody believes in Freudian psychology anymore. This happened to some extent with the ancient Greeks too, but they had way more time before modern science started making them look bad.

"Freud was a pseud" is babby's first intellectual opinion.

1. Psychoanalysis is primarily a form a therapy. It's not about making descriptive claims on par with experimental psychology.

2. Freud's insights were so profound and affected our thought so deeply that we don't even notice his ideas are implicit in the way we think about people. You probably accept all sorts of Freudian presuppositions and don't realize it. All that's left to notice about Freud once his views are implicit in our culture are the errors in his thought.

I notice that a lot of anti-Irish sentiment in the 19th-century US came from other European immigrants to the US, rather than from native-born Americans of that era. Eg, Thomas Nast loved to bash the Irish, and he was an expat from Bavaria. What motivated this animus?

Religion had a part too. The Catholic Irish (and also the Italians but their 'swarthy' complexion was the main point of prejudice there) were seen as intruders in a 'Protestant country' in a way that other immigrant groups from that period like Germans and Scandinavians weren't.
>>
1. Catholic culture was seen by puritans as promoting alcoholism and general low-bred attitudes
2. Irish laborers were high in number and uneducated, giving Americans a poor impression of them

There he is. There he goes again. Look, everyone! He posted it once again! Isn't he just the most redpilled guy around?! Oh my God. I can almost see your pathetic overweight frame glowing in the dark, lit by your computer screen which is the only source of light in your room, giggling like a like girl as you once again type your little Hitler thread up and fill in the captcha. Or maybe you don't even fill in the captcha. Maybe you're such a disgusting Stormfuck that you actually paid for a 4chan pass, so you just past in the link to the video. Oh, and we all know the vid. The "epic" Hitler video, isn't it? I imagine you little shit laughing so hard as you click it that you drop your Doritos on the floor, but it's ok, your mother will clean it up in the morning. Oh, that's right. Did I fail to mention? You live with your mother. You are a fat fucking fuckup, she's probably so sick of you already. So sick of having to do everything for you all goddamn day, every day, for a grown man who spends all his time on /his/ posting about fucking Adolf Hitler. Just imagine this. She had you, and then she thought you were gonna be a scientist or an astronaut or something grand, and then you became a stormfag. A pathetic stormfag nigger. She probably cries herself to sleep everyday thinking about how bad it is and how she wishes she could just disappear. She can't even try to talk with you because all you say is "HITLER DID NOTHING WRONG." You've become a parody of your own self. And that's all you are. A sad little man laughing in the dark by himself as he prepares to indulge in the same old dance that he's done a million times now. And that's all you'll ever be.

Was any of this inevitable? Or did it betray something more about the general malaise felt amongst MENA nations ever since the collapse of the ottoman? I'm not insinuating that things were "going well" in the middle east prior to 1979, but it seems to me like this was a particularly significant year to which many current religious and geopolitical problems can be traced back. Am I missing something or is there really nothing to it?
