British author Colin Duriez, who wrote the article "Tollers and Jack" in issue #78 of Christian History, explains why this is so in his forthcoming book Tolkien and C. S. Lewis: The Gift of Friendship. Duriez tells the story of how these two brilliant authors met, discovered their common love for mythical tales, and pledged to bring such stories into the mainstream of public reading taste. Tolkien and Lewis shared the belief that through myth and legend—for centuries the mode many cultures had used to communicate their deepest truths—a taste of the Christian gospel's "True Myth" could be smuggled past the barriers and biases of secularized readers.

Honestly, this is without a doubt the WORST leader of the past 500 years. Can you even imagine someone like this even existing today? A leader whos ideas not only fail horribly, but also result in the deaths of millions upon millions of his own people in peace time?

his own party was couped by revisionists, ofc they denounce mao. only bad thing about cultural revolution is that it failed in stemming the forces of reaction.

Why do people ignore the fact that Arabs grew up in a similar environment (actually worse but I won't get into that) than Africans but managed to figure out how utilize their vast reserves of natural oil to make themselves wealthy? Why can't the Africans figure it out?

What Arabs by the way?

North Africans (except for Egypt) barely made it to the Neolithic despite living in fertile lands, and were semi nomadic with no monumental architecture, while Europeans had bronze age civilization around the same time, despite being more isolated geographically

What's wrong with globalism that make people from both the left and right hate it?
Isn't for the best to be united in this world and dependent on each other to avoid future wars and massive conflicts?
22 posts and 2 images submitted.

The autists on the left and right hate it because they are idiots. The center right in the US pretends to hate it to pick up votes from the far left, the center left generally wholly endorses internationalism.
>>
>>3221245
>>3221238
1. Local government is more responsive, efficient, and human then gigantic distant bureaucracies

2. The current globalist order is run by crony capitalists and unelected bureaucrats whose primary interest is their own.

There is no true cosmopolitan movement, only the alliance between megacorporations and super-national organizations to increase their own power and influence. If you want to be a slave, by all means be a globalist.
>>
>>3221245
bleh, should read, "the center right in the US pretends to hate it to pick up votes from the Far Right". But judging by 2016 they picked up a fair number of far left votes as well from that perspective.

Anyhow, internationalism and free trade opens up a country's producers to more competition, which can often drive them out of business and cause those workers to lose their jobs. On the other hand, the consumers have access to cheaper goods, which raises their buying power and quality of life.

The other big fear is that some people believe the multinational corporations hold the interests of the company over the interests of the nation, and are getting too powerful to be comfortable. That I agree with but the answer is to not "Close the country, stop having it be open" but rather curbing the power of corporations by limiting the influences of money in politics.

By killing everyone who opposed it 1914 - 1991. Had its heyday in the Bush/1st Obama term years but as evidenced by the rise of Russia, ISIS, China, the split of the Philippines (once intensely loyal to the US) from American influence etc etc its basically collapsing. Trump is ultimately just a right of centre neolib. Brexit maybe reflects distrust in the world designs of neoliberalism. At any rate it is coming apart at the seams and nobody really has a replacement. Though Russia seems to want to position itself as the alternative global pole
>>
>>3221193
neoliberalism is literally liberalism taking to its fullest logical extent, which is why liberalism is fundamentally flawed.

My name is Charles Guiteau my name I'll never deny...
>>
>>3220756

The story is much longer and weirder than that. Guiteau did have at least one actual conversation with Garfield. This was back in the days when you, as an ordinary citizen, could simply walk into the White House whenever you wanted, at least during the day. Taking advantage of this Guiteau spent so much time in the White House that it was practically his home as much as it was Garfield's. And when he couldn't speak with Garfield directly, he was writing letters to Garfield from other locations. He kept this up for weeks. White House Staff was a first politely patient with him, and he misinterpreted this as a sign that he was being heard out and that he was making progress towards getting his desired appointment (ambassador to France). Guiteau's own diary makes it clear that he actually considered several members of the staff to be close friends, although they would have strongly disagreed with that. Eventually, however, James G. Blaine (Secretary of State) got tired of his constant badgering and bluntly told him that he wasn't even remotely being considered for the position, banning him from the White House, and refusing to respond to any more letters. Guiteau's reaction, recorded in his diary, makes it clear that he had viewed Blaine as very friendly and agreeable up to this point, and was confused as to why his "friend" had turned against him.

"In Beijing, Red guards stored the Ming Dynasty tomb of Wan Li and destroyed not only priceless artifacts but the emperor and empress’s remains were then publicly denounced and burned. According to the book “Mao’s Last Revolution” by the end of the cultural revolution, 4922 of the 6843 sites in Beijing officially designated as of “historical interest” had been destroyed. The forbidden city only barely managed to escape this mass chaos."

The way I see it, we don't fault wolves for being violent because they're animals. But people are also animals, albeit seemingly rational ones, so why to we think of violence as some sort of great evil? Isn't our tendency to be violent just as much an integral piece of being human as love and family are? I just don't get it, drone pilots are more removed from war than regular fighter pilots, and it seems that fighter pilots feel better adjusted. Am I grasping at straws or is this just one of the many idiosyncrasies of modern society?

Every violent act a wolf commits has a purpose
>food to live
>keeping competitors in line to secure peace and prosperity within the pack
Wolves don't kill other wolves to eat them, but humans do murder other humans to steal from them. This is wrong
>>
>>3224385
I didn't really mean senseless violence, but more that I see a lot of people condemn violence as a whole, and I don't really get it, because no one complains when feral cats kill things without eating them, but will go ape shit when someone defends their property.
