Rudolph Hess.jpg

What was wrong with Hess, how could someone so mad climb so high in the party's ranks?

- Flew all the way to Scotland on a glider, when he landed he asked the first farmer he met to take him to the Prime Minister for a very important peace talk but instead he took Hess to a nearby police station where he was imprisoned like a common robber.
- During his imprisonment he collected samples of every food he was given believing they were poisoning him. He hoped to later have them analyzed by the Reich's scientists once he would be released back.
- At the Nuremberg trials he kept saying "NO" instead of "Not guilty" despite being corrected by the judges already
- When he was made aware of death camps, Hess answered that the only explanation was that Jews must have hypnotized Hitler and most of the Germans into genociding them so that they could later blame Germany
- Eventually his claims got so outlandish Goebbels had to put on a pair of sunglasses to hide his embarrassment
- During the Nuremberg trials he was seen whispering into his hand and staring at the ceiling. When inquired about it, he claimed to be in possession of a micro-radio receiver and that he was in contact with Hitler himself, who assure he would send in paratroopers to free them. The thing in his hand turned out to be a tea biscuit he took from the cafeteria.
- Still unable to cope with the loss of Hitler, during his imprisonment in Spandau he created many crude medaillons bearing the face of Hitler, in the same fashion as Sonichu's medallion. He asked his inmates to wear them in his memory, but many refused.

War has a negative effect on everybody, but some take it harder than others. I recently came across a story of a British officer during African theatre of WW1 who became utterly convinced that his boat, which was carrying him and his troops to Africa, was going backwards. The captain and crew tried very hard to convince him that there ship was going the proper direction, but he just kept getting more and more angry. "I outrank all of you, who are you to be telling me that I am wrong!" Eventually he did accept that the ship was going forwards, however. At that point, he became convinced that the ship was actually on fire. Again, the crew assured him that there was no fire, he was merely smelling the food being prepared. Again he became angry. "Who is the best judge of whether or not the ship is on fire? It is me! I'm in charge here!" Only after being lead down to the kitchen and seeing the food being prepared did he finally calm down and accept that the boat wasn't on fire. The author of the book attributes this behavior to shell shock, that the officer had simply lost his nerve after fighting in the wilderness for so long.

Who were the greatest adventurers of all time?
Not politicians, generals or entrepreneurs, but adventurers. Traveling the world, discovering new places, meeting outstanding people, putting themselves at risk, facing foreign cultures, contributing to our appreciation of the world, making a name for themselves. The real people whose daring undertakings make for stories to rival those of fiction.
What were their names and what did they do?

>In three voyages Cook sailed thousands of miles across largely uncharted areas of the globe. He mapped lands from New Zealand to Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean in greater detail and on a scale not previously achieved. As he progressed on his voyages of discovery he surveyed and named features, and recorded islands and coastlines on European maps for the first time. He displayed a combination of seamanship, superior surveying and cartographic skills, physical courage and an ability to lead men in adverse conditions.

What's so "objective" about objectivism?

I feel that their use of the word "objective" is on par with how /v/ uses it to describe whether a game is good or not.

Reels>feels is her whole philosophy. She argued that everyone operates from a place of selfishness if they want to admit it or not, so the best thing to do is to just embrace that fully because altruism is cancer. All altruism is is a way for the masters to control plebs and getting them to fulfill his selfish desires. Every horrible totalitarian regime is built upon altruism. The people suffer in those system, but they are told to suffer is a great sacrifice for the benefit of the collective, which is obviously bullshit, since the collective suffers for the selfish desires of a few elites. If everyone trashed altruism and embraced their own selfishness, then regimes like this would be impossible, since no one would put up with the bullshit of some charismatic weirdo shouting about utopia around the corner, just as long as they suffer for him.

Hello everybody, it's my first time on /his/, it looks like a cool board!

I study history at univ in France and i wonder if anyone was interested by talking about historiography. Do you think history is a science? What's your point of view of the Annales? Can an historian be totally unbiased?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>3306998
A historians bias is an intresting topic although I find it comes down less to societal influences and more to intentions regarding research, retrieving select information from data or building your conclusion on interpretation of texts. I'd say most history students do the former wheras only those with access to records can do the later.
>>
>>3306998
An historian is always biased. Period.
>>
>>3306998
How is the mood in French historiography nowadays? Is Annales School still dominant?

Why are yanks so obsessed with this war? It doesn't even register on the Bongs historical radar, they weren't even trying at the time. The Bongs were in a full-fledged huge continental war with Napoleon, the thing with America was just them swatting a fly, and even then they still managed to burn down the white house.

It's like being in a boxing match against WWE champion and then a little baby crawls up to you and starts throwing punches. You're not gonna care, you'll just be like "shoo, go away, i'm busy now".

They aren't. You take a poll of 100 random Americans, and I'd guess that less than 12 would even remember what the war of 1812 is, let alone anything meaningful about it.

The only people obsessed with it are /int/ style shitposeters, because they need to constantly wank whatever country they pitch for.
