Is this the most overrated civilization to ever exist?
>"muh discipline"
Prussia.
All the militaristic cultures are overrated. Prussia and Sparta stand out as ones that attract the most autists.
>>3312988
Rome was a militaristic culture.
Did they really deserve it

no, that's just pathetic

Why is Hitler generally seen as more evil than the other 2 dictators even though he didn't kill the most people?
More clearly defined intentionality tbqh.
>>3312538
First of all, the numbers are fake news. He was just honest about how he felt about jews. Because of that, the ridiculous numbers almost seemed believable (unless you actually work out the math)
But anyways at least Hitler was honest about how he felt about jews, that's much more honest than the other spineless "leaders" of that era. Wouldn't expect you to know much about honor though. Realizing that honor is an almost uniquely white european trait.

Why Himmler in the Mao spot
There's a lot of talk about historians or people either accidentally getting history wrong or purposefully changing it for their own narratives. Many people however quickly jump to attack the varyous wewuzings and inaccuracies regarding specific historical eras/regions they like but i want to ask: How dangerous/powerful is historical revisionism truly and should we pay attention to it?
Personally i would say definitely but i want to know what /his/ thinks, you guys seem to pretend you're smarter than someone by telling them about the "real" history while at the same time attacking the /pol/es who get angry about the very same issues. Are you guys actually serious about protecting history?
>>3312449
"""""""Revisionism"""""""""
Just an anti-dialogical buzzword for people scared to question their own historical outlook.
>>3312494
here's the (you) you're fishing for
>>3312494
Why on Earth should people question their historical outlook?
What do they gain from it?
I can see what outsiders gain from forcing a group into renouncing their history but I fail to see what's in it for the people being forced to change.
Do you guys have any examples of Nubians or some other black people serving in the Roman army?
The Romans WUZ nubians!

Yeah, there's a pretty famous one you might have heard of... his name was Julius Caesar

Do you personally believe in God or some sort of higher beeing? Or do you think we are alone in the universe?

Yes.

That's not really an 'or' question.

I am uncertain which board does my question better belong to so I ask your forgivness
in advance if this is a wrong board for this.
Lately I've came to conclusion that it is better to live by some sort of code, rules.
Something, that will allow you to know what to do in certain circumstances, help you to be
a better person, having strict moral rules that will make your mind clear.
Something that people call beliefs and principles.
I've been reading books on bushido.
I was curious about this way of life of samurai of japan.
While I like bushido in someway there is something that I don't really like about it.
Bushido is all about serving your master,
doing everything in the name of someone who owns your life.
I don't want to agree with this.
What I really want is some set of rules which main purpose is to guide and help you personally.
There are gentlemanās code-of-honourāand Code of Chivalry but I doubt these are suittable for modern times.
Does anyone know of something like this and may point me in right direction?
Thank you.
Theoretically stoicism would be better and is a lot less romanticized or falsified like Bushido is, despite some idiots, but in my opinion it's a bit antiquated too. The best thing to do is to look into philosophies and adhere or modify to the one that works the best.
>>3312343
i wouldn't know of codes of chivalry but when it comes to your love for bushido you should take a tolstoyan mentallity to follow what you want without havign to agree 100% with it, just follow bushido where you see it moral and drop what you see as immoral.
I would recommend you look into virtue ethics, and maybe read Alasdair MacIntyre's After Virtue.
In most countries, political and administrative power tends to centralize into the hands of a single person as time goes on. Even in England, where the monarchs never were absolute, the House of Commons took it and concentrated it into the Prime Minister.
Why didn't Venice go through the same process? The Doges became weaker and weaker as time passed, yet no "power behind the throne" in the form of a single office emerged. How did they manage it?
>>3312282
Venice was an Oligarchy in stagnation.
>>3312308
But how did the oligarchy manage to never have to give up any power to a non-noble faction?
>>3312313
only nobles could hold political office and most administrative and legal positions after the 1200s. there were no "non noble factions" after that except the "citizen" class of who filled the lower positions of the bureaucracy and a few other privileged positions. they were bought off with positions and the successful ones often married into the noble class, so they had no interest in revolting ever

What did you learn in your High School History classes /his/? What was in the required curriculum? How shitty was it?
For me, we where only required to learn history in 8th Grade and 10th (Sophomore Year) This is in Canada
Grade 8
>Fur Trade/New France
>Minimal in French and Indian War
>Confederation
>Disregard 50 Years of History Now
Grade 10
>WW1
>Great Depression
>WW2
>Cold War
>When i was doing it we only did one day of Post WW2 history.
There were optional courses you could take that were better but not much. I never took their World History course for Pre 1500s. According to my friend who took it, they learned about Rome starting with Augustus, never once mentioned the Republic, or even Caesar. They also never mentioned the Byzantines.
The worst thing by far was in the class you had to submit a formal essay. His topic given to him was who would win in a fight, a viking, legionairre or spartan. TLDR my friends history course was an episode of deadliest warrior.
