That would be me, yes.
Why the fuck would I want to be a historian
>>2411914
>I find the subject of history and its study enjoyable, but I'm smart enough to know not to try and make it my primary source of income
What is wrong with this?
Tell me what you know about this man /his/

He died quite brutally in Central Asia, he was chased and beheaded by the Soviets for trying to start a Turkic uprising
i'm wondering which are the most important innovations in technology that have ever happened.
So far i can think of agriculture, writting, and have a vague idea of the industrial revolution.
What were some big changes to the world that could only happen with the development of some new technologies?
What new technologies do you think could influence greatly the way our society is structured?

Artificial uterus, it will completely remove women from the equation when it comes to reproduction. What impact it could have:
>no more abortions
>no more racemixing
>no more unwanted pregnancies
>no more overpopulation
>no more blackmail through children and pregnancies
It will be literally the biggest social game changer since the invention of agriculture, a complete revolution.

What happened in ancient times when a warrior tore a muscle? I was wondering based on how athletes like baseball players today when they tear a muscle either end their careers or have to get complicated surgery that didn't exist in ancient times. Given the laborious nature of a soldier in ancient or medieval times I'm sure many solders tore muscles. How did they address or remedy this?
>>2411324
they died.
>>2411324
Same way they address it today; massage and rest

lol superstition
>>2410863
The Romish mass is a superstition, a forgery and a sacrilege which blasphemes Christ's once-for-all sacrifice and is directly contrary to our Lord's intention in the institution of the Supper.
comfy.
What the heck happened to ballet? Louis XIV would be ashamed

I'd wear that outfit in a heart beat.

There are areas in my town where you could wear that for a heartbeat and no longer.
Anyone know what this is from? I found it in my great uncles apartment. He was a WWII vet

Gee that narrows it down

That's a US senior EOD badge. Established in the 50s, so he didn't get it in WWII.

>Stalin is an evil totalitarian bureaucratic dictator who keeps workers away from actual socialism. Oh, those Kronstadt guys? Lol, serves them right for going against the Party!
What did he mean by this?
>>2409774
Yeah I mean Trosky would have an authoritarian leader just like Stalin if he had won he power struggle. I don't think he would have been as ruthless.
>>2409774
I don't know much about Trotsky, but wasn't he a menshevik at one point?
>>2410159
He wanted to militarise all labor.
Trotsky being more "humane" meme has to die.
I don't wanna sound like an edgy atheist fedora guy because I'm not, I'm actually an agnostic who isn't edgy or wears a fedora but..Everyday, I grow more and more resentful of religions specifically monotheistic ones. I hate how people push it in the Bible Belt of USA (I live in Louisiana), like just a few days ago I was walking to CVS pharmacy and I saw a bunch of fucking pamphlets and Christian-related material that I was particularly distasteful for because I see it every goddamn day.
And someone working there has the gall to put that shit there, everytime, for people to see it. On the same day I went to the bookstore across the street from the pharmacy to calm myself down because I have anxiety and suddenly this Methodist missionary caught me off guard then asks if I look troubled.
I said yes, I do look troubled (obviously because I was anxious at the time), then he proceeds to tell me that he was also in "turmoil" and turned to God to become a minister, as if that was his "calling". He then asked me to consider to becoming one with his religion as a minister because I was also in "turmoil" but I said no.
I felt pretty embarrassed by the whole deal, even though we were talking outside and I wanted to leave because of it.
Have any anons experienced a constant, annoying influence from religions in their daily lives? I can't be the only one here on /his/.
I mean I have no problems with religion but Muslims forcing you by threat of death or Protestant Christians being annoying about it is kind of too much for me.
Idk if I like this country anymore because of it.
And why do secular societies like the United States still allow people to annoy others into conversion towards their religion?

>I don't wanna sound like an edgy atheist fedora guy because I'm not, I'm actually an agnostic who isn't edgy or wears a fedora but..
I wish people would stop this shit. The fact that you're hesitant to express anything critical of religion without clarifying "but I'm not one of those le *tips fedora* guys!" just shows how thoroughly memed you are. I mean, yes, there are cringey, annoying atheists but who cares? Just state your fucking opinion.
If you believe in dragons the world is a much more magical place, so why not believe in someone who will love you unconditionally forever. Your life be much happier knowing of god. The book of Genesis is an allegory, whatever it means is for you to discover for yourself.
ITT: historical characters who you resemble
>The lord king has been red-haired so far, except that the coming of old age and gray hair has altered that color somewhat. His height is medium, so that neither does he appear great among the small, nor yet does he seem small among the great. His head is spherical...his eyes are full, guileless, and dove-like when he is at peace, gleaming like fire when his temper is aroused, and in bursts of passion they flash like lightning. As to his hair he is in no danger of baldness, but his head has been closely shaved. He has a broad, square, lion-like face. Curved legs, a horseman's shins, broad chest, and a boxer's arms all announce him as a man strong, agile and bold...

they even explain my paunch
>"[Henry had] a reddish complexion, rather dark, and a large, round head. His eyes were grey, bloodshot, and flashed in anger. He had a fiery countenance, his voice was tremulous, and his neck a little bent forward; but his chest was broad, and his arms were muscular. His body was fleshy, and he had an enormous paunch, rather by the fault of nature than from gross feeding."

Only in the sense that the western areas bar Africa province were a massive waste and drain on resources, soldiers and energy. Italy was completely ravaged by the war to retake it and wouldn't regain its prosperity again for 700 years. Spania and Tingitania were meme provinces.

"The fencing guild of the Brotherhood of St. Mark had the monopoly on the use of the Zweihänder after Frederick III, Holy Roman Emperor granted it to them in 1487."
What is the reasoning behind this?
>>2408971
>What is the reasoning behind this?
Corporate economics where some guilds had privileges and if you were caught doing something you hadn't the right or privilege to you could be sued by the guild...
It's one of the interpretation of why the messer came to be in the HRE, for the knifemakers guild to bypass the swordmakers guild privilege so that they could enter the "fencing weapons" market as well.
It was done in France as well, it's typical of the modern period really.
>>2408971
Can you repeat the question
>>2408971
Royal monopolies are about controlling a resource and rewarding the King's favorites.

What would England be like if the norman invasion failed? Would they still subjugate their celtic neighbors? Would the UK ever become a thing?
>>2408721
Counterfactual history is fucking stupid. The UK becomes a 'thing' in its own right in the 18th century so that is several centuries between the events you're talking about, in which any number of possible different things could have happen.
Anglo Saxon exiles never go to the Scottish court, Margaret of Wessex never marries Malcolm Canmore, Scottish culture remains fully Gaelic, Scotland and Ireland form a Gaelic ethnostate, come to dominate the British isles.
I just realized that after all this time nobody has yet refuted this.
Did Yanis Varoufakis bring you here?
Milos was one of the few islands aligned with the Spartans, it was basically a military outpost whose main purpose was to hold out.
