When did you realize the end justifies the means?
I haven't
what anime should i watch btw
>>2484550
Friendly reminder that the ends have to be more noble than the means were ignoble for this to be an argument and even then it's completely subjective
>>2484575
Good job dumbass, that's literally the entire point of the statement (minus the subjectivity, if we're going there then everything can be argued as subjective)
Can we please just give some credit to the Turkish army in WW1? They did far better than they had any right to, or their performance in the Balkan Wars would indicate. Their situation in 1914 was a lot shittier than anyone remembers.
>railway length in the whole empire was 5,759 km; by comparison France had 51,000 km for a fifth of the land area.
>over 30% of the public budget was going to payment on debts to the European powers.
>there was only one cannon and small arms foundry in the entire empire, a single shell and bullet factory, and a single gunpowder factory, all located in East Thrace
>there were literally no chemical production facilities and very few petroleum refining facilities
>coal production was 826,000 tons in 1914: by comparison, France produced 40,000,000 tons, Britain 292,000,000
>Ottoman steel and pig iron production was non-existent
>Population was 22 million, of which only 12 million were ethnic Turks; rest were a hodgepodge of ethnic groups that were all potential rebel hot spots, and could be more of a liability than an asset if recruited into the army.
>for comparison, the Ottoman Turkish population was 1/3 that of Italy's Italian population
>GDP was about a quarter that of Italy, Austria-Hungary, or Japan, and less than a tenth that of Germany or the United Kingdom.
>one year earlier the Ottoman Empire had lost 32.7% of its territory and 20% of its population to the coalition of Bulgaria-Serbia-Greece-Montenegro in addition to suffering over a third of a million casualties
>one historian described that loss as "a military disaster of unprecedented magnitude for the empire, which all but destroyed the regular Turkish Army army as an effective fighting force"
>>2484099
cont.
>there were only about 588 shells available per gun in 1914
>led by a meme
>were outnumbered on literally every front they engaged in
>from the beginning of the war were engaged on their home territory
>had at least two and sometimes as many as six fronts active at a time
>fought in the Caucasus, Gallipoli, Mesopotamia, Sinai-Levant, eastern Europe, and Persia, plus several other minor fronts like Libya, South Arabia, and Macedonia
Despite all of this:
>hand the Anglos their largest defeat of the war
>hold a whole theater of war more or less on their own for 4 straight years
>still have 800,000 decently equipped men in the field when the war ends
>maintain a relatively decent casualty ratio in every theater they engage in except the Caucasus, doubly impressive when remembering that they're always outgunned
>tie down millions of enemy troops that would otherwise have been used to fight Germany
>ultimately reform their army to crush the numerically and materially superior Greeks in the War of Independence, becoming the only Central Power to flat-out reverse their surrender terms

Certainly impressive, perhaps I will do more reasearch on the Ottomans.

Where did the phrase "Islam is the religion of peace and tolerance" come from?
I don't think that's a common phrase.
Pretty sure it came from George W Bush after 9/11

Convert the world later

Why is France such a cultural heritagelet? I would have assume that from their history they would at least be top 2. Why does France have the reputation of being sophisticated and full of monuments when they can't even beat Spain?

Why can't historians admit that humans would happily trade away their freedoms for a strongman independant dictator / monarch?
99% of the time its the will of the stupid people which causes wars and economic disasters.
The elite did nothing wrong.
the plebs always knew they were too stupid to rule but the meme french revolution told them they could
Pleb normies just want to be told what to do and have their bread and circuses, but that doesn't mean authoritarianism is actually in their best interest.

No evidence of that haplo migrating to France in more ancient times.
"Civilized" is a term that can only be attributed to the Chinese and their empires and dynasties
If they're so smart why couldn't they invent the letter "L"

Real Christians hate neither. ;)
>>2489621
They usually don't. When I used to go to Catholic church on Sundays I remember the priest saying "Jews can be saved in heaven but only if they accept Christ." or something like that. I don't remember them ever mentioning Islam at all. When I later studied Islam I was surprised that they believed somewhat in Christ. They should be more accepted imo but with everything going on in the ME with radical terrorism it doesn't help Islam's image to Christians.
Are Eastern Bloc defectors considered a good source on the activies of the communist governments, or are they full of shit?
I ask this because they usually claim a lot of outlandish shit, Jan Sejna claimed the KGB created the illegal drug trade in cocaine, Ion Mihai Pacepa claimed the KGB created the liberation theology in Latin America, Yuri Bezmenov claimed the KGB created the counter-culture of the 1960s and Anatoliy Golitsyn claimed the Sino-Soviet split was a ruse to fool the West.
All these sound absurd claims, but on the other hand, these men were respected in the West as inside sources on Soviet espionage, and they were sought after by the CIA and other Western intelligence services for their knowledge, so they did knew something about what was going on.
So what is the verdict in historian circles?
>>2489356
>inb4 leftypol and pol turn this into a shit thread
You have to take it on a case by case basis.
In the case of the first, you can look at the rise of FARC in Colombia as the Soviet Union's role in cocaine production. Soviets and other communist countries backed the rise of FARC, which sparked the growth of a drug trade as FARC needed more funds, which also sparked a backlash of right wing paramilitaries. Soon, both sides were heavily organized in coke trafficking, but there were clear political differences between right wingers like Carlos CastaƱo/Los Pepes and left wingers like Pablo Escobar.
About the others I'm not too familiar. I personally believe the second one and the fourth one and I don't know jack shit about the third. But my only evidence is through the philosophy of cultural marxism, which makes it likely that the second and fourth claim are true, but I don't have the necessary facts to back them up like I did for the first one.
>>2489379
Cultural Marxism is a right-wing meme. It means absolutely nothing.
What country has the best historical architecture? My vote goes to Italy: http://italicroots.lefora.com/topic/1254/Italian-Architecture
Everywhere else in Europe seems to be extremely urbanized and modern or had a lot of it's historical buildings destroyed in WW1-WW2 like Germany, but Italy seems to have managed to preserve their historical stuff more than anyone else.
>>2489199
Architects often want to go to Italy.

Is there a reason for that? I agree with OP's point, but was it just the fact that Italy was spared of the carpet bombing of world war two or something?

Is the reason so many religions originate in the Middle East because of the high temperatures and arid climate making people more prone to hallucinations which they interpret as prophecies?

>three religions of note
thats not a particularly great number
