Why did Caesar choose a teenager that he barely knew to carry out his political legacy? Did he really think this kid would be able to hold the Republic together, and keep the barbarians and Persians at bay? And what's even more amazing is that it all worked in the end.

Octavian had proven his capability to Caesar by travelling all the way from Rome to Spain to help Caesar in defeating the remnants of Pompey's army and so Caesar put him in his will. Bear in mind Caesar probably didn't expect to be stabbed to death only a few years later and so didn't put any consideration into changing his will.

Which written text is the earliest after Jesus' death? Since there is no contemporary written text of Jesus.
>>2625946
One of Paul's letters, possibly 1 Thessalonians.
Many scholars consider the gnostic texts closer than the biblical ones.
>>2625946
The earliest gospel is Mark. It just says it's the gospel of Jesus (Iesou) Christ in it in the beginning though.
Matthew was probably similar to a Jewish Aramaic version of it that existed that may have not included genealogies or the virgin birth.

>History is written by the victors.
There are phenomenal misapprehensions about WW2 though, that's not a fair place to start. Too many people think all Germans were Nazis and all Nazis were those grotesque duplicitous monsters in Spielberg's saving private Ryan.
Pic related, first time I was forced to reconsider the narrative.
The politicized moments of history have the most momentum and are thus the easiest to change. I think as a rule, people think slavery in the USA was much worse than it really was. I've told several incredulous adults, including a history lecturer that roots is a work of fiction - it's all pretty embarrassing, shows how emotion driven history has become.
People also think the USA was some massive underdog during the revolution which I can't say I understand, especially after the euro support they courted.

Witch burning during the early and high Middle Ages was almost nonexistent, yet the way the media describe the period one would think they were a daily occurrence.

> March 14, 1891 lynchings were a series of lynchings of eleven Italians in New Orleans, Louisiana, who were lynched for their alleged role in the murder of police chief David Hennessy. It was the largest mass lynching in U.S. history.[1][2]
> The lynching took place the day after the trial of nine of the nineteen men indicted in the murder. Six of these defendants had been acquitted, and a mistrial had been declared for the remaining three because the jury failed to agree on their verdicts. Believing the jury had been bribed, a mob broke into the jail where the men were being held and killed eleven of them. The mob numbered in the thousands and included some of the city's most prominent citizens. American press coverage of the event was largely congratulatory, and those responsible for the lynching were never charged. Increased anti-Italian sentiment led to calls for restrictions on immigration. The word "Mafia" entered the American lexicon, and the stereotype of the Italian-American mafioso was firmly established in the popular imagination.
>Most anti-Italian hostility in the United States was directed at Southern Italians, particularly Sicilians. This was especially true in the American South, where Southern Italians and Sicilians were not considered full-fledged members of the "white race". The U.S. Bureau of Immigration reinforced this distinction, classifying Northern and Southern Italians as two different races.[46] Between 1890 and 1910, Sicilians made up less than 4 percent of the white male population, yet were roughly 40 percent of the white victims of southern lynch mobs.[47]
>"The Italians are just a little worse than the Negro, being if anything filthier in [their] habits, lawless, and treacherous."
-John Parker, Governor of Louisiana, who participated in the above lynching before being elected governor fifteen years later.

If you are converting to Christianity simply to avoid hell you aren't going to make it anyways. You don't get to make a deal with God.

How much of pride in a population is bad for a civilization. Do people get more "lazy" with time?
The good white people were so essential but the average white people are so shitty. I've seen videos of crackheads being racists towards people who had more education than then.
It's so sad.

If there's a unified white race. Why are finnish so isolated while Americans are so open. Same thing with Scandinavians.
Why are German so much more different than Americans?
I think this white concept is something that was invented in the USA.
I'm not saying that anyone isn't white. I'm saying that it seems that between the white people, there isn't an unified culture.

>>2625695
What about Romanians, Hungarians and Italians. They're all different between each other.
>>2625692
Because there's no such thing as a unified "white race". The whole concept of "whiteness" is a new world term created by Anglos. Being "white" is really only an American thing. Culture, ethnicity, and language matter much more than arbitrary racial groupings based on zero science

impartiality is a meme. mocking the fact that some land is significant to many people is childish and pretending to be "above it" (which is what this video is doing) is hypocritical; I guarantee that person has some land (eg her home) that he/she would be willing to fight for, just because she/he is irreligious and has nothing sacred in her life doesn't mean other people don't or shouldn't.

Can someone of you explain to me the problem of universals?
Im trying to understand aristotle and medieval philosophers but idk
Basically it's the question of how there can be many things that are classified under one name, i.e. how are St. Bernards and Golden Retrievers both dogs but also distinct kinds of dogs.
>>2625628
I understand they both have their "dogness", and those are simple examples but for example the fatness, its a universal isnt it?
You cant imagine it on its own but you can clearly identify it in a person, isnt that contrary to the idea of universals?
Oh also i dont get that thing of "an individual cant be the predicate of something"
colors are the easiest way to think about universals imo. a lot of things are blue, but there's nothing that we could call "blueness"
I read something on /sci/ recently about how scientists were preoccupied with the idea of "living space" in the 1920s becuause they miscalculated the carrying capacity of the soil they measured vis a vis food production in their home countries causing the political theoreticians of the day to be hysterical about securing farmlands culminating in the third Reich and Japanese imperialism. Is this true, /his/?
>>2625478
I don't know for certain, but it sounds believable.
You also have to remember that there was a "Green Revolution" in the 1960s that dramatically increased crop yields.
>>2625478
I don't think Japan was concerned with securing more farmland though.

It was partially because synthetic fertilizer production was only in its baby steps in the early 20s. A lot of fears of overpopulation were due to the impending "nitrogen crisis", predicted in the late 19th-early 20th century, where without a continuous source of fertilizer, the nitrogen in the soil of first world countries would eventually run out, and millions would begin to starve. Fortunately, the Germans figured out how to make synthetic nitrogen from the atmosphere in about 1914. It took some time before Hager-Bosch plants really began to spread around the globe, though, so it would make sense if there was still some concern over the matter by the 20s.
