A large number of the 200,000 African American servicemen who fought in WW1 decided to stay in Europe, specifically in Paris, France. They found themselves well received by the French, which was a welcome change from the near universal racism they experienced in the States at the time. When knowledge of this growing expatriate community got back home, many young African Americans also departed. Several jazz clubs, both owned by and performed at by African Americans became extremely popular with the Cities' elite: It was not uncommon to see African American intellectuals brushing shoulders with the decedents of French nobles. Of course, all this fanfare came to a grinding halt with the Second World War: At the time, all Americans fled the city in haste: The old jazz clubs where people would dance to the morning hours were now bare.

>"In many ways, African Americans came to France as a sort of privileged minority, a kind of model minority, if you will - a group that benefited not only from French fascination with blackness, but a French fascination about Americanness."

Are there any Christians on /his/? I have some questions for you.

First, why do you believe in Christianity when Yahweh was originally just a war god in the canaanite pantheon among other gods? Then the Hebrews decided to make him the only god and tried to wipe out people who believed in any of the others.

Secondly, the idea of a savior dying for your sins and returning three days later was already an idea long before Christianity stole it.

Furthermore, how do you contend with the fact that the Bible has been translated and misinterpreted countless times over the ages

And for those of you who are white Christians, how does it feel to be a traitor to your people and practice the religion that wiped out the religion of your ancestors? If you're one of those people who say that religion is about community and tradition, then why not return to the traditions of your own people?

Those weren't fixed borders, they were rough guesstimates of the territories inhabited by each ethnic group.

The only exception being the byzantines, and even then the borders of ancient empires were more roughly estimated frontier zones.

Yes, death from things like disease always outpaced deaths in battle by orders of magnitude until the 1880s or so. This is like historical warfare 101.

Except for the US, Russia under Catherine the Great, Great Britain under Queen Elizabeth

And even if that was true, what would it prove? Pretty much every civilization throughout history has been based around a patriarchy. You could make the same argument against patriarchy. "Every terrible society in history was severly misogynistic".

Hey /his/

Anyone can recommend me any books about the industrial revolution, talking mostly about which countries adopted it or not and why?

Since I'm curious if say, the Arabs didn't purchase any and why.

>Since I'm curious if say, the Arabs didn't purchase any and why.

Because they were ruled by the Turks, who DID buy as much technology as they could, but who preferred military technology. As to why the Arab wrld STILL hasn't caught up, that's because they're a low-iq population, due mainly to inbreeding, and because they have a culture (due mainly to the Koran) based around avoiding personal blame for anything, which eschews education as demeaning and whihc treats non-Muslims as subhumans with nothing worth learning from.

Since the Jews had openly declared their hostility to iOS regime and assassinated Nazi diplomats abroad, was he entirely justified in placing them in camps as a security risk for the duration of the war? Especially given that the last bolshevist insurrection in Germany had been led by Jews.
