Cessions, decision-makers.

Rudolf Augstein (whoever that is) wrote about the Potsdam conference:
"The ghostly thing at the Potsdam Conference was that a war crimes court was decided by victors, who, according to the standards of the later Nuremberg trial, would all have had to hang. Stalin at least for Katyn, if not at all. Truman for the totally unnecessary bombing of Nagasaki, if not already for Hiroshima, and Churchill at least as Oberbomber of Dresden, at a time when Germany was already done. All three of them had decided so-called 'population resettlements' of crazy proportions; all three knew how criminal they were. "

Discuss.

I even got a relevant sign as related picture.

I mean it is rather ironical that they complain about Dresden after complete destruction of Warsaw and destruction of Rotterdam

Strategic bombings did happen all the time, done by both sides.

About the population resettlements, I do think it was to prevent any "saving german minorities" pretexts for war.
>>
>>2691039
In the last thread it was mentioned that Bombings were left out of Nuremberg.
>>
>>2691029
Only Stalin was comparable to Hitler. Allies crimes were nothing if you compare them with Germany's.

Population resettlement was easily the best possible decision.

My friend has been digging in his yard and came across this thing, unable to find anything about it I decided to go search on 4chan.

Do any of you know what this could be?
If it's not too much to ask it would be nice to know about how much something like this would be worth.

Canadians made for good troops during both world wars, but never had the logistics to make as large an impact as America or the Russians. The 1st Canadian Army did liberate the Netherlands, but this was done on May 5th, right during the death knell of the Third Reich, so not particularly impressive.

Are Africans objectively superior to Europeans in a moral sense?

Europeans:

>focused on accumulating material goods
>hierarchical
>competitive
>authoritarian political structures
>harsh punishments (executions, torture, incarceration, etc.)
>responsible for all technological revolutions that will ultimately cause a social collapse through environmental damage, depletion of natural resources, technological unemployment and acute social inequality

Africans:

>respectful with the environment
>egalitarian
>cooperative
>didn't accumulate material goods
>horizontal political structures
>punishments were milder (ostracism, expulsion from the tribe, etc.)

Was it worth the time to type this up
>>
b8 or not
>respectful with the environment
africa still pollutes and due to the sheer size of it its on a lesser scale but still go into most populated area pollution is prevalent. and if you mean pre industrial area it was simply due to the population differences between sub saharan and europe, also north africa had been a powerhouse in the Mediterranean for most of its existence.
>egalitarian
lol wut the wealth gap in africa is pretty bad and there is a definate patriarchy in africa and african communities
>cooperative
africa has been warring before whitey came
>didnt accumulate material goods
what is food storage
what is weapon storage
what is the storage of any kind
what is Mali, home of the richest man who accumulated massive wealth.
>horizontal political structures
they were columns
>punishments were milder

Hi /his/, I'm doing a project on Slavic paganism and I'm having a terribly hard time finding legit sources for information.
I felt super lucky finding the book of Veles, until I learned it's a forgery and just written by someone in the 20th century.

I really want to learn about this, but not finding good resources is depressing. Any help is more than welcome. I can read Serbian, English and soon Latin ( in case that is of any help )

Pic related is painted by Alphonse Mucha ( google the slav epic if interested )

Here's a collection of texts on Slavic mythology but also other things like folklore, etymology and pre-Slavic influences which you may find interesting:
http://sms.zrc-sazu.si/En/kazalo.html
Serbian will help because not all texts are in English.
>>
>>2690149
because there are no "legit sources" on par with Graeco-Roman or Germanic. Book of Veles is crap and unauthentic. To have formulated mythology you have to have either poets (like Greeks or Celts had) or written state ideology (like Japanese or Egyptians). Slavs had neither.
>>
>>2690619
I'm pretty sure the only thing you need for mythology to emerge is a group of people. Humanity created myths to explain the world around them long before writing was invented. What I do agree with is that most sources are second-hand accounts along with other sources made through historical and ethnological research

Why didn't they import African slaves to continental Europe but did it in all of their colonies?

Better still: why isn't there much slavery in Europe, but only alternatives like serfdom or stuff like it?

Even assuming that agriculture was a mistake, being a serf sounds better than a modern wagie.

They didn't care as much about demographics in the new world because they viewed it as a distant problem that someone in the future would have to deal with.
>>
Pagan Europe had tons of slavery. Christendom did away with it. Serfdom was just a logical part of the social order at that time. Work for protection.

>Busbecq, a Fleming, was the ambassador of the Holy Roman Emperor at the Sublime Porte (the Turkish Sultan's court in Constantinople) from 1555-62. His letters provide important foreign accounts of the Ottoman state.

At Buda I made my first acquaintance with the Janissaries; this is the name by which the Turks call the infantry of the royal guard. The Turkish state has 12,000 of these troops when the corps is at its full strength. They are scattered through every part of the empire, either to garrison the forts against the enemy, or to protect the Christians and Jews from the violence of the mob. There is no district with any considerable amount of population, no borough or city, which has not a detachment of Janissaries to protect the Christians, Jews, and other helpless people from outrage and wrong.

A garrison of Janissaries is always stationed in the citadel of Buda. The dress of these men consists of a robe reaching down to the ankles, while, to cover their heads, they employ a cowl which, by their account, was originally a cloak sleeve, part of which contains the head, while the remainder hangs down and flaps against the neck. On their forehead is placed a silver gilt cone of considerable height, studded with stones of no great value.

These Janissaries generally came to me in pairs. When they were admitted to my dining room they first made a bow, and then came quickly up to me, all but running, and touched my dress or hand, as if they intended to kiss it. After this they would thrust into my hand a nosegay of' the hyacinth or narcissus; then they would run back to the door almost as quickly as they came, taking care not to turn their backs, for this, according to their code, would be a serious breach of etiquette. After reaching the door, they would stand respectfully with their arms crossed, and their eyes bent on the ground, looking more like monks than warriors. On receiving a few small coins (which was what they wanted) they bowed again, thanked me in loud tones, and went off blessing me for my kindness. To tell you the truth, if I had not been told beforehand that they were Janissaries, I should, without hesitation, have taken them for members of some order of Turkish monks, or brethren of some Moslem college. Yet these are the famous Janissaries, whose approach inspires terror everywhere.

The Turkish monarch going to war takes with him over 400 camels and nearly as many baggage mules, of which a great part are loaded with rice and other kinds of' grain. These mules and camels also serve to carry tents and armour, and likewise tools and munitions for the campaign. . . . The invading army carefully abstains from encroaching on its magazines at the outset; as they are well aware that when the season for campaigning draws to a close, they will have to retreat over districts wasted by the enemy, or scraped bare by countless hordes of men and droves of hungry animals, as if they had been devastated by locusts; accordingly they reserve their stores as much as possible for this emergency. Then the Sultan's magazines are opened, and a ration just sufficient to sustain life is daily weighed out to the Janissaries and other troops of the royal household. The rest of the army is badly off, unless they have provided some supplies at their own expense. . . . On such occasions they take out a few spoonfuls of flour and put them into water, adding some butter, and seasoning the mess with salt and spices; these ingredients are boiled, and a large bowl of gruel is thus obtained. Of this they eat once or twice a day, according to the quantity they have, without any bread, unless they have brought some biscuit with them.... Sometimes they have recourse to horseflesh; dead horses are of course plentiful in their great hosts, and such beasts as are in good condition when they die furnish a meal not to be despised by famished soldiers.

From this you will see that it is the patience, self-denial and thrift of the Turkish soldier that enable him to face the most trying circumstances and come safely out of' the dangers that surround him. What a contrast to our men! Christian soldiers on a campaign refuse to put up with their ordinary food, and call for thrushes, becaficos [a small bird esteemed a dainty, as it feeds on figs and grapes], and suchlike dainty dishes! ... It makes me shudder to think of what the result of a struggle between such different systems must be; one of us must prevail and the other be destroyed, at any rate we cannot both exist ]in safety. On their side is the vast wealth of their empire, unimpaired resources, experience and practice in arms, a veteran soldiery, an uninterrupted series of victories, readiness to endure hardships, union, order, discipline, thrift and watchfulness. On ours are found an empty exchequer, luxurious habits, exhausted resources, broken spirits, a raw and insubordinate soldiery, and greedy quarrels; there is no regard for discipline, license runs riot, the men indulge in drunkenness and debauchery, and worst of all, the enemy are accustomed to victory, we to defeat. Can we doubt what the result must be? The only obstacle is Persia, whose position on his rear forces the invader to take precautions. The fear of Persia gives us a respite, but it is only for a time.

What would you say is the philosophy driving Spiderman?

Consider that his MO is to grab people from mid-crime and transport them to the police station, where, wrapped in cocoons they arrive with no evidence, eye witnesses, or even indication to the police of what crime they've committed. In many cases, they were caught before they were even able to commit a crime. So the police have no choice but to let them free and perhaps pursue Spiderman for a number of counts of kidnap.

It would be a more utilitarian choice for him to, given that he "does whatever a spider can" simply cocoon them and eat them himself, not risking them going free.
