How come some people dismiss feelings as "just a chemical reaction?"

Should we not also dismiss atoms as "just a bunch of subatomic particles?"

Is something less valuable just because it is the sum of something else?

1. BECAUSE THEY ARE MATERIALISTS.

2. FEELINGS ARE NOT THE SUM OF "BIOCHEMICAL REACTIONS".

How old were you when you learned that (the expression of) emotions are historical contingent?
BTW we can't differ between emotions and any other cognitive functions anymore.

Many salty anons think that Germany shouldn't exist. I disagree but can we all agree that Austria actually shouldn't exist?

>>
Yes it should
Austria is a more chill version of germany you pleb
Middle europe would suck far more without the austrobros
>>
True, in a scenario were you split Germany into many states after WWI, Austria should be absorbed by Bavaria and not with any autonomy nonsense or anything but completely abolished as an entity.

That way Bavaria is rewarded for seceding and feels content being it's own entity and is big enough to resist some future attempt to restore the empire.

I don't think Churchill is much more famous than either Roosevelt or Stalin

All three were giants of the 20th century.

Why do people think the Roman Empire was good again when it was under the Republic that they conquered the majority of their territories and had their most glorious victorious? The Empire is overrated meme trash.

>>
*victories
>>
To gain an empire is much easier than holding onto one. The constant infighting of the Senate would have caused much more instability in the long run than the Imperial system.
You could also make the argument that an Imperial coup was inevitable, whenever the Republic faced an external invasion, whichever general successfully stopped it would be immediately tempted to simply overthrow the republic, and would have had the public support to do so, especially if the senate was seen as being too complacent in response to said invasion. Remember, there were calls to make Scipio Africanus Emperor way back in the days after Zama
>>
>>2688435
Still doesn't change the fact that the Empire was a failure compared to the Republic. They expanded very little and couldn't keep hold of the new territories they conquered for any substantial amount of time.

Anne de Gaulle was the youngest daughter of General Charles de Gaulle. She was born in Trier, Germany, where her father was stationed with the Army of Occupation in the Rhineland.
She was born with Down Syndrome and lived with her family until her death. For Charles, there was one sacred rule in the de Gaulle household: Anne was never to be made to feel different or less than anyone else. Charles de Gaulle was well documented for his reserve,
and even with family members he was usually not very demonstrative. Not so with his daughter Anne, who received a warmth that he had seemed to be storing for his entire life just for her. He would entertain her with songs, dances, and pantomimes, he would often act as a child himself to bring her joy. One Colombey resident recalled how he used to walk with her hand-in-hand around the property, caressing her and talking quietly about the things she understood. She was, he said simply, “My joy. She helped me overcome the failures in all men, and to look beyond them.”

In 1948, Anne succumbed to pneumonia, a month after her 20th birthday and died in her father's arms. Upon her death, weeping, her father said: "Now, she's like the others."

On 22 August 1962, Charles de Gaulle was the victim of an attempted assassination at Petit-Clamart. He later said that the potentially fatal bullet had been stopped by the frame of the photograph of Anne that he always carried with him, placed this particular day on the rear shelf of his car. When he died in 1970, he was buried in the cemetery of Colombey beside his beloved daughter.

She could only utter one word clearly in her entire life: ‘Papa’

China has lots of ancient books. But are they really that old? Are they reliable?

Or are they all fabricated very recently? (Like, in 19th century?)

Ever heard of carbon dating? It's true that a lot of books have been destroyed and since reconstructed, but the major works can be confirmed to be legit.
>>
>>2687406
Do they carbondate their books? I thought they mostly get copies from recent period.

I dont know. I mean they have 25 histories, ranging from 200BC to 1900s, all "already" compiled conveniently in one language, one format, and they say it's readable to modern Chinese readers. It just sounds fishy.

I agree, as if a government body task to both write and collate the history of a dynasty and even the history of earlier dynasties seems to exist...

Degenerate here looking for occurrences of my fetish in history

I'm into fatties, that ranges anywhere from sorta chubby to landwhale status as well as the weight gain required to reach said stages of fatness. What I hear all the time is that being fat in various cultures throughout history was a symbol of wealth, safety, security, the usual bullshit. What I want to know is how fat was "fat" at various times in history? Any recordings of occurrences of fattening people up for a specific purpose? I guess this thread is dedicated to the prevalence of fat in history.

Franco and his government weren't good for the Spanish society or economy. Spain was corrupt and backwards during his rule. It'd still be a shithole.
