So, I was reading Searle's 'Minds, Brains and Programs', and he raises the point that if we take minds to be something like a complex program,
and we are serious about the possibility of strong AI, we are committed to some form of dualism as thinking 'Minds = Programs' is independent of realization via artificial brains.
Would you agree with this?
Disagree?
>>2707127
What a stupid argument. This Searle fellow sounds like a moron, I wouldn't waste any more of your time reading his """thoughts""" if I were you.
>>2707127
>if we take minds to be something like a complex program
If we did this we'd be fools, because that's not at all what the mind is like.
>we are committed to some form of dualism as thinking 'Minds = Programs' is independent of realization via artificial brains.
What? If you made an artificial brain that is capable of generating an artificial mind, then this is no different than how natural brains and minds work.
>>2707162
I think by "strong AI" he's referring to an artificial intelligence that could reproduce and physically accrue to its own intellectual capabilities, and this would make it qualitatively different than standard, organic human intelligence, hence "dualism." Not arguing for this, but this is what he seems to be saying.

Isn't Stoicism just Platonism for little bitches?
Stoicism is for people trying too hard to be tough
>>2707129
Tell me about Platonism, I'll I'm truly familiar with is Stoicism and it's retarded cousin.
You have been given the opportunity to travel back in time to ancient Rome. You are the only modern human to get this opportunity.
The only catch is, you must serve as a Roman slave for the duration of your stay, which is a minimum of 1 year.
What do, /his/?
>>2707108
I'll pass thanks.
>>2707114
Isn't one year of manual labor worth the price of being able to observe and experience life in antiquity?
Serve these girls for 1 year?
I definitely would
Did ancient people have nine-to-five jobs?
More like five-to-nine.
>>2707103
Soldiers were full-time but for everyone else it was a matter of "work as long as you like / have to to make ends meet".
>>2707109
What kind of jobs would be done in the dark of night?
Was she really that bad?
No, in fact she literally dindu nuffin.
>>2707790
Isn't that bad as well?
>>2707065
Yes but she wasn't particularly worse than other monarchs of the period.
Is cussing a sin?
Curse words are only used to spread hate and demoralize character. They exist only to curse those and sap their energy both physically and mentally, so yes.
>>2707082
Fuck right off with your Christianity grandpa.
"But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell."
So, I would say cussing at someone is a sin, but is using vulgar language in and of itself a sin? I am doubtful as the verse seems to imply that God drew the line on hateful speech as far as speaking goes.
Just ordered this book, what can I expect?
Just stick to the Bible, you fucking loser

>>2706994

Turkic.
Most of the 'mongols' that reached Europe were turkic too.
>>2707102
Yeah because they were slaves and conscripts impressed into the Mongol military machine, which was led by an ethnic mongol.

How would history turn out if these men lived full lives?
Kennedy Definitely. His campaign team was relatively indifferent to civil rights and helping out MLK was a gamble and he's renown for calming down the Cuban missile crisis when he started it himself.
Malcolm X should be hated by anyone whose not a BLM protester. Too violent for any moderate liberals to get along with and too conservative for the far left to get along with. He's a mix between being far-left, black supremesist, revelutionary, and social authoritarianism
MLK did nothing wrong

Is psychoanalysis a meme?
>>2706819
Every idea is a meme. If you mean does it work, it's out of fashion but CBT is a closely related concept that is widely practiced.
>>2706819
is there much of a technique behind it or is it literally just speculating on possible sexual experiences that could cause a specific mental problem?

Is communism American?
>>2706742
Kind of. American communes in the early 19th century borrowed extremely loosely from Christian themes in their inspiration, but they still were technically theocratic communes. The kind of godless mammon worshiping communism popularized by Marx that caught on in the latter half of the 19th century didn't really gain much ground here.
Also American communes were fundamentally different from the Communism we understand today in that there was no state involved at any point. In a group like say the Oneida Community you voluntarily moved in and subjected yourself and your family to the equal society with no state enforcement or coercion at any point.
>>2706973
>A program of eugenics, then known as stirpiculture,[22] was introduced in 1869.[23][24] It was a selective breeding program designed to create more perfect children.[25] Communitarians who wished to be parents would go before a committee to be matched based on their spiritual and moral qualities. 53 women and 38 men participated in this program, which necessitated the construction of a new wing of the Oneida Community Mansion House. The experiment yielded 58 children, nine of whom were fathered by Noyes.
Once children were weaned (usually at around the age of one) they were raised communally in the Children's Wing, or South Wing.[26] Their parents were allowed to visit, but if those in charge of the Children's Wing suspected a parent and child were bonding too closely, the community would enforce a period of separation.[27]
This is I think an interesting example pasted from wikipedia that illustrates the place US communes were in. On the one had they have an unironic eugenics program to create tangibly better people but on the other they are still trying to fully tear down the family unit.
