Hey anon, you realize that those women have the Reichsadler on their coats, right? So uh, they're not prisoners.
Just in case anyone doesn't see that obvious detail
>>3343239
The prisoners were Jews, not people, so no one suffered.
Hey /his/, I'm currently attempting to brainstorm ideas for a Doctoral thesis and I need materials to read. Unfortunately, academic books & publications in our line of work is largely hidden online or through paywalls (i.e. I want a 10 page review on JSTOR - they want £30 for the privilege).
Does anybody know how I can get my hands on such material, preferably free of charge?
>TL;DR - need historical/archaeological materials for free, looking ideas
>>3343152
Is 30lbs for a one article or a monthly charge?

Hello I am from Japan. When world war 2 end in 1945 the Japanese economy was run like war economy but consumer goods were produced instead of tanks, airplanes, battleships, it was very successful and japan was the second largest economy!. When the old generation dies in the 1970's, the new generation come to power, they say "we must be more like America and Europe". Debt lending spread like crazy, then it all collapsed and the economy has not recovered from 1992. But america today is still the most powerful economy. Why did it work for them, WHY did the western economist lie to japan?
APOLOGIZE
Should have regulated your real estate markets
>>3343061
Japan didn't become the third largest economy until the 70s, and the second largest economy until 1991. Then it collapsed.
For the people who are actually interested in this and not OP's shitty bait, the answer is relatively straightforward. Japan has a colosally high population density, especially around Tokyo, which is the economic center of the country. The entire economy is distorted by housing prices and mortgages, and a slight ripple in that sector that could be dealt with in another economy is earth shattering to the Japanese economy.
Why did the Bolsheviks hate the Cossack's so much?
>>3343005
They were the Tsar's mercenaries, body guards and/or members of the White army
>>3343005
They did the same to them as the Tsarist regime did. Turned them from something akin to ethnicity into their loyal clowns and soldiers.

Realistically, the only thing I'm good at is history. I DON'T want to teach. Am I screwed? Even my history professor told me not to major in it.
I CAN'T do anything related to math. I feel like a loser because I'll never be able to do anything cool in engineering or robotics or genetics or space or research. I feel like the only thing I'm good at is worthless. Is this true?
Is there anything I can do besides teach with a history degree?
I did an History degree and this friday im starting working at a bank.
Just study what you like ffs.
Just fucking do it. Whats the worst that could happen?
>paying for someone to tell you how to interpret history
If you're going to do a social "science" than do Philosophy. But you should really just learn math and do something with applied math like accounting, cs, or finance.
What are you favorite /his/ youtube channels?

How well can you explain this problem /his/? No this is not homework. Without the use of wikipedia or any other research how can you explain the problem. I will give you what you need from the wiki.
Hempel describes the paradox in terms of the hypothesis:
(1) All ravens are black.
Via contraposition, this statement is equivalent to:
(2) If something is not black, then it is not a raven.
Try to refrain from being outright if you can, it's a simple paradox.
>>3342833
OP here, post other problems.
>inb4 Monty Hall

>my hair is black im a raven
fuck you they are purpl/blue anyways. I picture anyone that identifies with ravens as wearing trench coats and those are for faggots therefore op is one
>>3342833
What problem? Beyond the false premise, of course? The statements ARE equivalent.

If you're going to make a shitposting thread, you have the obligation of at least making the bait good enough or posting enough pictures to get someone's attention.
This could have been a decent Western architecture thread if you weren't so bad at this OP.

Topic for today: Gorlice–Tarnów Offensive of 1915, or on Russian side known as the Great Retreat.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorlice%E2%80%93Tarn%C3%B3w_Offensive
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Retreat_(Russian)

Beautiful
The city of Krakow. In the Austrian Empire, it was the capital of the Grand Duchy of Krakow. Franz Joseph held the title of the Grand Duke of Krakow.
Unlike German or Russian Empire, the Habsburg house allowed their Polish subjects a great degree of autonomy and freedoms. Under benevolent Austrian rule, Kraków became a Polish national symbol and a centre of culture and art, known frequently as the "Polish Athens" (Polskie Ateny) or "Polish Mecca". Many leading Polish artists of the period resided in Kraków, among them the seminal painter Jan Matejko, and the founder of modern Polish drama, Stanisław Wyspiański.
Fin de siècle Kraków evolved into a modern metropolis; running water and electric streetcars were introduced in 1901, and between 1910 and 1915, Kraków and its surrounding suburban communities were gradually combined into a single administrative unit called Greater Kraków (Wielki Kraków).
So all I've ever seen and heard of her is brits shit talking her in movies, books, and tv shows but they never say why, I've never seen her mentioned in a positive light.
What did she do to piss people off, was she really that terrible
>>3342760
She's just the British Reagan. Neocons love her for her economics and her reaction to the falklands crisis but her detractors say the op
>>3342760
The only thing that people keep saying is that she shut down some coal mines. So what? People don't even like coal mines anymore. They cause global warming. They should all be shut down.

Who was the "good guy" in the Chinese Civil War? Were the Kuomintang a better option than the Communists?
>>3342697
Chinese people can't be good guys.
>>3342697
There was no obvious good guy.
>Were the Kuomintang a better option than the Communists?
Probably not. Instead of getting an insane and incompetent despotism over all of china, you get an insane and incompetent weak state that tries to but can't reign in a bunch of warlords, and who will almost ensure another round of civil war breaks out when they inevitably weaken.
Yes part of why they lost was the KMT used the warlords to try and bleed out the commies so they could kill two birds with one stone. Turns out the warlords just fled, turned sides and abandoned all their equipment and started a route/panic they were unable to recover from. Plus the mainline KMT were exhausted from WW2 remind any arrogant Chinese that the communists did pretty much nothing to stop the Japanese and even conspired to attack the KMT during the war. They cared not for China just power.
I thought it would be fun to get an economics general going here. Any econ majors on /his/? Or at least people who follow it casually?
Topic of the day:
Is maintaining the supremacy of the petrol dollar all that really matters for the usa? Is the current arrangement where essentially the entire world empties its tangible goods on the shores of the usa only to get dollars in return the greatest arrangement of empire in all of history? Will it pretty much continue indefinitely? All the us has to do is print USD and sell it on the global market for real goods while brain draining the entire planet to maintain a monopoly on intellectual property along the way.
Be nice. This is a NICE thread.
Are threads about economics supposed to be on /his/ or on /sci/?

Could be /biz/ but desu those guys don't talk about anything other than e-currencies.
Supposing that someone believes in God (not arguing that God exists) how do you rank these positions from best to worst? :
>1. "I believe in God because He is the necessary first cause."
>2. "I believe in God because I think atheism is illogical."
>3. "I believe in God because society needs guiding objective morals."
>4. "I believe in God because it is the Belief of my forefathers, and I must continue this tradition."
>5. "I believe in God because I fear Him."
>6. "I believe in God without doubt, but accept it is an unjustifiable leap of Faith, not an act of reason."
>>3342569
1 and 2 are tied as best, because the person is believing in their religion because they think its true.
3, 4, and 5 are garbage because the person is saying they don't care about the truth.
6 is evil because its blatantly in defiance of the truth.
"I believe in God without doubt, but accept it is an unjustifiable leap of Faith, not an act of reason."
"I believe in God because society needs guiding objective morals."
"I believe in God because He is the necessary first cause."
"I believe in God because I think atheism is illogical."
"I believe in God because it is the Belief of my forefathers, and I must continue this tradition."
"I believe in God because I fear Him."
