How come none of the films about nazi concentration camps make reference to the theatres and brothels for the inmates at the camps, or the fact that labourers received wages?

You'd think the likes of Spielberg and Polanski would be committed to historical accuracy.

Why has Christianity seemingly become more casual and less devout as a religion? It seems like even the conservative sects/branches will accept anyone from alcoholics to benevolent people like Mr Rogers. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is it generally less devout compared to other religions?

God doesn't even ask much of us but follow the three major commandments.

1. Love God with all your heart/mind/etc.
2. Love your neighbor you love your self.
3. Love your neighbor as Christ loves, even laying down your life for them.

Christ also taught repentance and forgiveness so it is very accepting.

People will tell you it's atheism or science, but really it's capitalism battering at religion.

I wonder how many people who call themselves Christians in America are actually devout Christians? I feel like most of them just say they are "christian" because they grew up it as a kid and it's been practically indoctrinated in them even though they don't fully believe in God.
Also how did Christianity become associated with the right wing/conservative ideology or even going further, the stormfront types? Are they just larping fags?

I'm writing a tabletop role playing game based in historical fiction, and I was wondering if you guys could answer some questions regarding actual medieval history. I frequent /tg/, but I figured you guys would be able to answer my questions more clearly and factually. Answer any of these that you feel like.

How were black people and people of different ethnicities viewed/treated in bronze and iron age europe?
Is the "Modern women have larger breasts than in history" thing a myth, or is this actually true?
Were there no THICC women in the ancient world?
How did non-christian cultures view "witchcraft" and "magic"?
What are some examples of real artifacts that were considered sacred or "magical"?
Did people in the "dark ages" really think that there were dragons and trolls ready to buttfuck them to death if they walk a mile away from their front door?
How prominent was crime in medieval times? What are some examples of punishment?
What are some real events that happened in ancient times that would make for an incredible story nowadays?

In order
Bronze age we don't know not slot of sources. Iron age is a really long period to answer that question about.

Yes, when food is more scarce and physical labor is a daily reality the women will be less Thic.

Which non Christian cultures I mean this is just to broad. But to answer super generally. Most places had presents who believed in some form of magic.

Arc of the covenant, fire temples, Oracle of Delphi,

No, but most people were very wary of travel for much more logical reasons. At best they may have been afraid of the devil or some vague spirit.

Less common than now because of population dynamics. Mostly it was handle on local level by a Lord. So punishments varied. Also, depends on the country. Usually some form of public shaming. Maybe a fine. Maybe torture. If you want some interesting torture look up the bloody eagle.

Can't think of any off the top of my head

wat. I know there was once a Nubian pharaoh.

>titties
in cultures of antiquity, large organs like dongs and tits was a symbol of civlisation

>thicc
Venus.exe

>witchcraft
Pagan rites were "witchcraft", then it was an excuse to set heretics on fire

>artifacts
Relics used and interred at the Christian monasteries, abbeys, and cathedrals were typically the bones or other such part of the body of a saint. These were thought to have special properties, like healing of insomnia for example.

>monsters
yes and no. early medieval period yes, but the only monster they would fear is mr. lucifer and his minions

>crime
if it happened it was punished, normally harshly.

>story
resisted the urge to say the Crusades. the rise and conquests of early Islam might make for some interesting alebit fucked up stories

About as well as everyone else because you have to remember that "racism" as we know it didn't exist. They practiced RACISM as in "fuck those guys across the river, they're shifty as FUCK". Racism was conducted along ethnic lines not so much from physical cues. So they would have been distrusted but no more than a thracian or a spaniard.

Christian friends, care to explain me one thing: why is suicide sinful?
Let's say a person is guaranteed to have a life of suffering, its mathematically impossible for this person to ever feel happiness or pleasure or do the works of God. Let's suppose because this person is physically psychologically and emotionally crippled. Besides, this person is like a boulder to society, the person is always fucking up everything, causing others trouble, being a source of pain to others and so on. So in this case, it's quite obvious that suicide is the correct decision. If the person keeps on living, the person will keep suffering and others will suffer. If the person suicides, no more suffering and others will be happy this person died and no more dealing with her. Note that in this example, suicide is actually quite altruistic - the person sacrifices her own life for the sake of others' lives-. So, care to explain what makes suicide something so bad? Wouldn't the Christian (or Islamic or whatever) forgive a suicide in circumstances like this? If no why and in what cases would God forgive a suicide?
41 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
My mom, a Christian, says that suicide is wrong because it is not God's will. "Who are we," she would say, "to tell when it is time for one of us to go?"

Also, with Chritianity, or any religion, the idea of a "guaranteed" life of suffering is unheard of. With God, one will feel hope and optimism. No thinking of a suicide while worshipping and being unconditionally loved and comfy with a God.

I really don't think anyone who believes in God thinks that God would ever excuse a suicide. Even as a "burden," people love you.

Or you can fast and pray to God that he will be healed and he can go on to live a happy long life.
>>
this is a tricky question because, in the end, suicide is basically taking your book of life and ripping it to pieces. it isnt biblical at all. i do not believe any one is past being helped and in truth, suicide is against human nature. man was designed to live, to fight for survival, to kill ones self is defying the life-force inside you. there are moments of sacrifice, yes, but suicide does not grant anyone else life, it merely destroys. further more, no one is beyond miracles and to say it wont get better is to put God in a box.
Trust me, i've been there. it does get better. Maybe not great, but better.

Yes it sucked, maybe 1 year of the Golden Era under Stresseman was good, but political conflict, hyperinflation, constant bullying by the Treaty of Versailles and a shitty democratic system (proportional representation) made the country into a mess that allowed Hitler to take advantage.

I thought the hyper inflation was solved by Hjalmar Schacht in 1923, and after the occupation of the Ruhr the League of Nations backed down, yet afterwards there was rampant sexual freedom to the point where something called "sexology" was founded. /pol/ thinks that that majority of those in these artistic movement were Jews which is what provoked the Nazis.

Is there any way to critically evaluate different culture's value systems, whether current or past, in an objective, trans-cultural way? If its possible, on what basis? In /his/'s eyes what makes a culture morally superior than another, and what is the overall "best" culture ever from a moral standpoint?

ARE ANY OF THESE QUESTIONS ANSWERABLE?? I FEEL LIKE THIS IS THE MOST INTELLIGENT BOARD

The only rule thumb that doesn't include extreme judgement from your own cultural perspective is rate of success, even then, the exact values used would depend on your own cultural perspectives. For instance:

- Did the civilization grow?
Some folks may argue that a smaller civilization might actually be preferable under various circumstances.

- Did it progress technologically?
Lots of luddites would argue against this, though the rest could certainly argue there are more important factors.

- How long did it remain stable?
Of course a civilization full of suffering that lasts a long time might just be seen as a perpetual hell.

- How complex was the social strata?
Social advancement is a sort of advancement, but one could argue that the complexity of say, the ancient Chinese Bureaucracy, might be an example of where that's more determent than not.

- What did they contribute to the modern era?
Which is a largely loaded cultural question, but if your culture happens to be the modern dominant, it might be somewhat relevant, particularly as it pertains to the survival and success of your own civilization. (ie. what did they do for you?)

Still, factors along those lines cross cultural lines to a degree.

Long and short of it being, in essence, utilitarian: Did it work?

Of course, you get into the whole moral relativist vs. moral realist debate. The relativist assumes that your own culture is always the best culture from your own perspective, thus its values are the best value by default, and this speculation is largely moot. The moral realist believes there is some universal standard by which all cultures maybe judge, and it maybe that some other culture is or was closer to that ideal than your own. ...and then there's the moral nihilist who just doesn't give a shit.

When a growing season ended, people saw their fertility god as having died, and when the growing season returned they saw their god as having been resurrected. One such god worshipped by the Greeks was Adonis. Adonis was believed to spend his annual death with the goddess Persephone in the invisible place where the spirits who had vanished dwelled: Hades. Each year when the growing season returned, Adonis was seen to have returned to living in blissful union with the fertility goddess of love, Aphrodite.

What made fascists like Codreanu, Hitler and Mosley so likable? Fork example Codreanu was attractive sure but that's not enough. Take a looK at this , even a hungarian jewish historian said only good words about his meeting with him.

>There was suddenly a hush in the crowd. A tall, darkly handsome man dressed in the white costume of a Rumanian peasant rode into the yard on a white horse. He halted close to me, and I could see nothing monstrous or evil in him. On the contrary. His childlike, sincere smile radiated over the miserable crowd, and he seemed to be with it yet mysteriously apart from it. Charisma is an inadequate word to define the strange force that emanated from this man. He was more aptly simply part of the forests, of the mountains, of the storms on the snow-covered peaks of the Carpathians, and of the lakes and rivers. And so he stood amid the crowd, silently. He had no need to speak. His silence was eloquent; it seemed to be stronger than we, stronger than the order of the prefect who denied him speech. An old, whitehaired peasant woman made the sign of the cross on her breast and whispered to us, "The emissary of the Archangel Michael!" Then the sad little church bell began to toll, and the service which invariably preceded Legionary meetings began. Deep impressions created in the soul of a child die hard. In more than a quarter of a century I have never forgotten my meeting with Corneliu Zelea Codreanu.Nicholas Nagy-Talavera (a Hungarian Jewish historian)

What about fascist figureheads led to them being idolized as much as they were?
