Does the claim of Islam being the continuation (or return to the roots) of the "true faith"/Judaism/Christianity hold any weight? Is it a badly constructed religion? Muslims seems to claim that Jews and Christians conspired to rewrite the Bible as they like it?

According to the Muslim narrative, Islam is the true version of the Abrahamic religion simply because the Torah and Bible were re-written again and again until it's nothing like the original thing.
Ironically Islam is the same.
I recently came across the writings of Onfim, a schoolboy from Old Novgorod whose scribbles have been preserved on the bark he wrote on: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onfim
It reminded me of those Roman grafittis (http://www.pompeiana.org/Resources/Ancient/Graffiti%20from%20Pompeii.htm) and I was wondering if any /his/torians know any more of these. Just little day-to-day writing that have survived the ages and give us a glimpse into the live of our ancestors.

because they just were. They were naturally selected as rulers among the indigenous Italians for their war prowess.
