I love alternate history, don't you?
Oui, but I find most of it annoyingly fan fiction and so over the top I just can't handle them. This is usually solved if it is packed with interesting details like Kaiserreich.

Depends, I enjoy it as fiction, I hate it when people pretend discussing alternate history is discussing history, like the ludicrous "what if" threads that used to dominate this board at one point.

No. He wanted to be God to his followers, because he was a malignant narcissist.
What is the name of this byzantine emperor?
>>2727604
Bump
Constantine XI, the last one of them all. An immensely capable man, but fate seemed to shit on him at every turn.
>>2727674
Why did he dress like that?
He dressed different from other byzantine emperors, he dressed like romans/greeks before Christianity
Hey /his/, I was reading about the Testudo formation and read this, and didn't know what they meant by it.
>Cassius Dio - "This testudo and the way in which it is formed are as follows. The Baggage animals, the light-armed troops, and the cavalry are placed in the center of the army. The heavy-armed troops who use the oblong, curved, and cylindrical shields are drawn up around the outside, making a rectangular figure, and, facing outward and holding their arms at the ready, they enclose the rest. The others who have flat shields, form a compact body in the center and raise their shields over the heads of all the others, so that nothing but shields can be seen in every part of the phalanx alike and all the men by the density of the formation are under shelter from missiles. Indeed, it is so marvelously strong that men can walk upon it and whenever they come to a narrow ravine, even horses and vehicles can be driven over it."
What does he mean by that last part? Were there literal instances of Roman soldiers letting horses step over them while they had their shields up?
>>2727591
Probably, it's easier than stopping to build a bridge over a stupid ravine. I don't know of any specific instances.
>>2727802
I call bullshit, there's no way that could support a horse.
>>2727802
pretty sure they'd come up with a better way, they'd have a bunch of wood and rope in the baggage train and the engineer would erect some neat thing and take it down afterwards
Well, /his/?
The Jews.
>>2727564
which one has a longer stick?
>Thinking 500 pseudo-vikings can beat a samurai
That's it. I'm sick of all this bullshit that's going on in /his/ right now. Katanas deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.
I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine katana in Japan for 2,400,000 Yen (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my katana.
Japanese smiths spend years working on a single katana and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.
Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash.
Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined samurai and their katanas of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected. So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require more nazi-inspired pagan enemies for this shitty thread to be worth making.
How did people of pre colonial era think about racial term?
>>2727482
Race did not exist in pre-colonial times
Well a simple example is that the ancient Greeks called all non Greeks barbarians.
>>2727482
Racial ideas developed under colonialism
After blacks and Indians became Christian, ancestry was used to perpetuate the hierarchies which elevated folks born in Europe over colonists over natives over slaves
If judaism accepted converts would it be as big as christianity or islam?
>>2727366
It does accept converts, if i recall correctly, it's just that the religion doesn't teach it's followers to go out and convert people.
>>2727366
Judaism isn't as big as Christianity or Islam because of the fact the conversion process is longer, its been persecuted, it isn't as nearly as expansive as Christianity or Islam, and it's a minority religion whereas Christianity and Islam are both huge religions with lots of power and homes for their followers.
>>2727382
yes, this
The meme that Judaism doesn't accept converts is a meme jews spread to prevent people from converting to judaism. You can convert, they just don't want you to.
Why did old Christians spend so much time researching and cataloging demons? Isn't it a little risky, eternal soul-wise? Either they don't exist and you're making fun of God's omnipotence to pass the time, or they do exist and you're effectively worshipping false idols.
>>2727278
researching and cataloging isn't worshipping you idiot
scientists research and catalogue animals and plants, it doesn't mean anything
>>2727278
God says they exist.
I do not know what benefit cataloging them would be.

What if USA had stayed out of the European theater until the Soviets had beat Germany and expanded into the rest of Europe. America could have then came and obliterated the over-stretched Soviet war machine marching right through Europe and possibly through Japan and Siberia to Moscow and placing a pro-USA and non-communist government into place.
It could have been a bit hard to justify this to the American public and due to America being a republic that could have been a bit problematic but i'm sure with enough propaganda it would have been possible, and certainly a lot easier than first fighting beside the Soviets and then betraying them.
As an end result USA would have been left standing as the sole superpower in the world.
or do none of those things and be the sole superpower anyways
interesting thread tho op

Real life isn't fucking HOI4.
>>2727199
Well yeah after like 50 years and many close calls on literal world obliteration later. The world would be so much better off now if the Soviets had been crushed in the forties.
So where do they come from?
Why do they look so different regionally?
The Amazonians look very distinct. Flat nose etc. An older wave of human migrants?

They are mongoloids from Siberia
