Well there was a pretty good chunk of Poles but a lot of the population were Russians/Ukrainians, or at least what we would now call those people.

It's probably more comparable to something like the Holy Roman Empire, where you had a pretty even distribution of West Slavs, Italians, Germans, and Low Landers, rather than something like Ptolomeic Egypt where it was ruled by an extremely tiny minority of the population

no its an ubermeme, european scholastic monks were of the platonic tradition while islam ulama adopted the aristotlean approach. Aquinas is the one who popularized aristotle back to the west, although older church figures like pope sylvester II who traveled to al andalus to study and collect translated scrolls and many others.

It's a euphemism, it was quite common among religions at the time to never utter or record the real name of your god, but to instead use euphemism. So for example we today talk about the Greek goddess "Persephone", which is not her name at all but rather a title, and Jews still won't write their god's name, instead using Adonai (lord).

Not really, they were just butthurt southern dixies. That being said, the various iterations of the KKK (5 in total iirc?) are pretty fascinating. The first one failed hard and was widely condemned, it's the second one of the early 20s which grew immensely popular.

Second Klan had million of members and was just as strong in the north as it was in the South IIRC.

and all you ever hear about is the white supremacy bit.

I know for example in 1979 they fought a bunch of Communists, so they clearly had a political bent outside of white supremacy, and i wanted to see where else it manifested.
supposedly there was conflict between them and the IWW.

Civil rights / Kennedy era Klan got shat on hard because its leader was basically a conman. When the congress hearings on klan's doings was on and klan leaders used same constitutional protections to not incriminate themselves as communists they lost nearly all support. Patriotism and fighting commies were a big thing for many klan supporters but they weren't any better than commies.

if i recall correctly, most of their casualties come due to forced conscription and little to no training. i mean, there is being badly trained, hastily trained, and so on, but in china it was more "here's a spear, now get out there"

i remember reading about the taiping rebellion in a book on them. at one point they were moving through hebei province on their way to the yangtze with about 60,000 people in their group and got BTFO in an ambush and were reduced to about 10-20,000 people. in a month of moving around the provinces they ended up with a new group of 80,000. in one month! bear in mind they were a radical cult too. thats how they got such extreme casualties
