In the synoptic Gospels Jesus seems to have a typical Jewish belief of the time, the "Son of Man" will come down to Earth, overthrow the forces of evil and the righteous dead will be resurrected to have eternal life in this new heavenly kingdom, he doesn't really say anything about spirits or the afterlife being in a spirit world of some sort.
Jesus says you will see the Son of Man "coming in the clouds" and himself ascended to heaven to sit at the right hand of God after his physical body was resurrected.

Though, I'd imagine that's inevitable when you're playing a key role in Judean political life under the Romans.
