Is anybody able to back up Varg's claims in this video? I can't find anything about Celtic Christianity being a gnostic sect, or that it existed in Norway.
>>2795340
Barg is a heavy metal musician not a historian. That should tell you everything you need to know about the validity of his claims.
Gnostic, when talking about early Christianity, mostly just means non-Catholic/Orthodox.

Can you justify harming, killing or otherwise exploiting an animal in a scenario where it is not necessary? For example, to eat a McDonalds hamburger when you could have a veggie burger instead.
Is it possible on an ethical or logical basis to treat an animal this way?
Another question for you: if it's because of sentience, the ability to feel and suffer that we ascribe moral value to the life of a human being, and because of this it becomes unethical to harm a human being without proper justification, how then, can you justify harming an animal without proper justification?
What is the trait not present in human beings, which is present in an animal, which allows you to remain ethically consistent and still harm that animal? What is the key difference that justifies, for example, a pint of cow's milk?
If you can come up with an answer to any of these dilemmas, you will have done what I have never seen done before: ethically justified not being a vegan in 2017. Even Richard Dawkins has admitted it isn't possible.
The weak must fear the strong.

I don't hear any complaints from animals
Popular culture aside, I remember a documentary (History Channel IIRC) where the "occult" practices of the higher echelons of the NSDAP. Was there any evidence on this or just speculation fueled by sensationalism?
>>2807244
Yes especially Himmler believed so. Look up Helena Blavatsky and Guido List because they inspired the occult nazi beliefs. The nazis believed in ancient nordic gods and spiritualism and that the aryan race once ruled the world before jews destroyed the societies one by one.
>>2807244
Only Himmler in his cronies actually believed in it, a fact that often got him bulled by Hitler.
>>2807244
Only some of them. And their beliefs were often pretty different. Some went full crazy retard like Himmler, others just believed in Aryan/Nordic supremacy and their ancient origin.
Hitler himself was actually more down to earth. I don't think he was ever a member of the Thule Society.
Most intellectuals are socialist, and yet socialist policies always fail. How is that possible? Intellectuals are supposed to be the smartest people...
>>2807137
>most intellectuals are socialist
negro wut
That's because intellectuals tend to place more emphasis on words than actions. Actions can be justified if they serve "greater good"
>>2807137
Intellectuals live in a little bubble, and have a very poor understanding of the nature of the average person.
Why aren't you a rule utilitarian?
>>2806738
Enlighten me.
Because Utilitarianism is the worse system of ethics. Stoicism and Transcendent Indifference towards the World are the way to go.

Alcibiades could've done it, anon.

When I read about the Peloponnesian War I don't understand why the Athenians thought it was a good idea for their generals to live in fear of being executed for failure. Dumb.
>>2806623
They weren't thinking. Right at the beginning of book VI of his history, Thucydides writes that the Athenians "were for the most part ignorant of the size of the island [Sicily] and of the numbers of the inhabitants, both Greek and native, and they did not realize that they were taking on a war of almost the same magnitude as their war against the Peloponnesians". (Rex Warner translation)
But yeah, Alcibiades could have pulled it off.
Is it possible to understand and respect one another, after both sides being at each others' throats, full of revenge and resentment? Is there a way for peace, or old blood feuds just won't go away?
History seems to teach otherwise. Politics, too.
Presumably if something is possible, it will happen eventually.
This being said, the probability of warfare can be reduced to negligible proportions with highly developed economy, democratic institutions, and collective security arrangements.
Note that this only works if both parties have these things.
>>2806267
Peace is for faggots.
>>2806281
So you mean consensus is the way? Consensus(-building) already implies difference, though.

women are useless
Men who achieve nothing in their life place themselves on the same "side" as people from history and then they use it as an excuse to look down on women because people from their "side" don't accomplish as much.

I don't believe any of these are sandwiches as I don't believe the universal sandwich exists. Discuss
Finally a unique thread
English is a stupid language with arbitrary definitions that aren't even regionally consistent. News at 11.
>>2805432
The original sandwich was between bread in order to be eaten by hand without getting them dirty. So I consider anything fitting those criterias to be a sandwich such as hotdogs and hamburgers.
If I look at 4chan enough, will I become a modern day Herodotus?

Saw an interview with the daughter of a German tanker whose Panther was knocked out by a Pershing in the famous Cologne combat footage. He had been upset, believing the Pershing was actually a German tank that the Americans had "tricked" them with. I wonder how much of its success was just because Germans didn't know what it was.

Not much desu, even if they knew, what more could they do? They knew it was heavily armoured target and treated it as such, they didn't have much more they could do do.
This is a repost of my earlier thread but as I did not get any sort of closure, I'd like to post it again:
I recently made a DNA test. My father was from Sierra Leone and I found out something quite extraordinary: from his side of the family I had 1% Papuan and 1% Native American from the Amazon. That means they were ancestors from around the late 1800s. As we all know, these were not places from which people travelled to other countries or continents. How on earth could a Papuan from Oceania or an Amazonian from South America end up in Africa? These were all countries that were visited by the Portuguese who had slaves, right? Yet I'm not aware from which countries they had slaves from.
I hope this will spark some interesting conversation. Thank you.
>>2805167
1. Commercial DNA tests are almost always deeply flawed and tell you nothing about your ancestors.
2. Post more tribal qts.
>>2805171
I know. I just want to find some sort a probable connection from these places. Many countries specifically that the Portuguese were heavily connected to were West Africa, Papua-New-Guinea and of course, the Amazon in what would eventually be called Portuguese Brazil.
Bumpety bumperoo.
