I'm looking to make a guide to essential tankoubons. I'm looking to assemble roughly 100 (a sort of best-of-the-best guide) to maybe 250 if I am feeling up to it. I have a ton of my personal favorites, but I am sure there is a ton I'm missing out on.
Anyway, the general thrust (heh) of this thread will be to post the cover images of your favorite tanks and then say a little bit about why you like them. I'll start off with a number of my favorites to get the thread rolling. For the interest of variety, try to not to repost the same artist more than once unless you really really love another tank from them.
First up, my favorite work by the legendary Shiwasu no Okina: Sei So Tsui Dan Sha. Great borderline manga, and a good introduction to the artist. It goes a little bit further than most vanilla manga in terms of subject content (light femdom, some crossdressing, and of course the detachable penis), but it is still pretty playful. The art is, as always, exquisite, although he's come a really long way since. And the ending is a legendary moment. Any list that failed to include this would be inadequate.

Next up we have Po-ju's Secret Journey.
A classic take on the Chinese novel Journey to the West, this has all the great art of Po-ju but unlike most of his other stuff isn't yaoi. Recently made into a shitty anime, Secret Journey has a great cast of characters, interesting scenarios, and a good mix of fetishes to keep things interesting. There's enough non-sex stuff so that it avoids the pitfall of most tanks of just throwing sex at you all the time without giving you time to breathe or invest in any way in the characters. Again, part of the canon for sure.

Not for the lighthearted for sure. Mame's Milk Crown is relatively new and one of the few tanks to focus almost exclusively on CBT and femdom. The writing is predictable but gets the job done. The art is solid. With that said, it goes dark at times. Prepare an ice pack.

I don't think anyone said it was a "big thing" just that it's neat for the community to produce something itself for once instead of just spending forever looking at what already exists. Obviously it can't appeal to every taste but the collaboration resulted in something competent and appealing to the spirit of the /h/ community. Plus it draws on some themes that aren't that common in hentai making it kind of unique in it's own right.
