If you're looking for a standalone program that's not Chrome use VLC.

The program i use for thumbnails is Babelsoft's Media Preview. It will thumbnail pretty much anything. Look for it under the products tab.

I use kodi to organise all my porn including webms. I basically have a netflix of porn on my computer.

I found VLC really disappointing. It was advertised on the basis of "it plays anything"...and last I checked (a couple of years back), it really doesn't.....it has a shitload of video codecs bundled, which is useful for the less technical, but it wouldn't even try to open images, or realmedia videos, or certain animations.

I recommend gom player, which really does work with anything. Except....hang on. Eh, it doesn't count text files as "media", which is fair enough, dunno any player that does, just suddenly occured to me to check.

using media player classic (mpc) with KLiteCodecPack ... Reads pretty much everything smoothly, do thumbnails, and probably cofee too if you ask nicely. Don't go for VLC please, it's a memory and CPU whore.
