Does anyone else use duckduckgo as their main search engine. If so, why?
>>
use startpage, it's better for various reasons (search the archives if you want to educate yourself).
>>
No, I use Google because they track me less than your autism "private" and "safe" search engines.
>>
Tell me /g/, is startpage's superior privacy worth giving up my bangs?

why not just use the built-in keyword search of your browser?
>>
>>52975004
Could you explain to me how they "Track you less"
>>
i like ddg for the "bangs"
>>
>>52974960
Yes for the same reason anyone uses it I assume.
>>
>>52974960
yes. I don't like google.
>>
>>52975246
Well, yeah pretty much everyone uses it for privacy or anonymity but some people only use it for the bangs
>>
>>52974960
>Does anyone else use duckduckgo as their main search engine.

Yes

>If so, why?

It's not a bloated piece of shit like Google. At least, if you use the non-JS version.

I can't say whether or not the no-bubble part is true, but since I don't see any suspicious cross-site scripting, I suspect DDG really does respect my privacy to some extent.

StartPage / Ixquick is another good choice
>>
I use bing, fuck the po po.
>>
It doesn't really matter that much if they are honest or not. What matters the most is that they aren't google. So they can't link all the info together and so on.
>>
>>52975511
Dammnn
>>
I use ddg because I'm too lazy to switch to lcquick
plus bangs, of course
>>
All of the search engines will watch what you do and track it. The benefit of google is, is buried in millions and millions of results.
All of these hipster engines just makes you a minority. A smaller haystack to find the needle.
>>
>all these idiots using duckduckgo

You realize they sell your information just like Google. In fact, by not using Google you are putting more of a target on your back.

Just use Startpage. Literally same results as Google but secure and they don't sell your information.
>>
If I'm just generally searching for something, I use Google. I don't give a shit what they're tracking and if Windows 10 was tracking me, I'd already had a v& by now.

I use Bing when I want to find videos of women straddling men and choking them. Or drowning fetish related videos.

They're harder to come by than you'd think.
>>
>>52975577
Do you have proof that they sell your information?
>>
>>52974960
There is not any single reason to use that crap. Use startpage or ixquick instead
>>
>>52975623

Look it up. Also be sure to look up the Jewish owner who has a past history of selling user's private info. I already did you a favor by letting you know I'm not going to spoonfeed you the information.

DuckDuckGo is the greatest search engine scam in history. Their results suck ass anyway. Use ixquick or startpage for fucks sake.
>>
>>52975692
>Look it up

It's clear that you want to convince him that duck duck go is shit, so then why would you reply in such a way that would not convince him?
>>

i couldn't care less if he believes me or not. he can go ahead thinking he's keeping his privacy intact if he feels like it.
>>
lol you guys are so paranoid. This board has turned into /pol/ tier at this point.
>>
>>52975623
i don't know if ddg seels user data, but the founder already sold his last company (the names database), including all user data. someone who did something like this in the past will do it again if the money is right. i would not trust them.
>>
>>52975790
go back to /v/
>>

ok then

/pol/ isn't paranoid, they are just racists mixed with genuine concerns.
>>
I use Startpage. Only use Google when I do image searches because search tools for exact dimensions.

I do, i like how they handle audio, video, and image searches. Plus they have "official site" right at the start, and no ads.
The images, videos, audio etc doesn't require a page reload. Image tab loads entire image from source, which means no shit resolutions when saving said image

Also The about and definitions tab is handy.

>there are people on /g/ who don't use searx.
It's free software, source code is on github, gives pretty good search results, you can host your own instance easily. There is no excuse to not use it, startpage won't give the source code, how can you honestly trust it more than Google?
>>
>>52975942
>source code is on github
How does that indicate anything about what the site is running?

>put code on github
>add malicious code to server instance

All server-side software is untrustworthy
>>
>>52975969
It's still better to use over startpage or ddg, who won't even give away the source code. The NSA cannot possibly control every instance running.

>>

Repeatedly attaching images of the same character to your posts is the literal definition of avatarfagging, you cockguzzling mongoloid.
>>

>>
>>52975934

What do you mean by this?
>>

I'm talking about the numerous other threads you keep avatarfagging that character in, for which you were already banned.

I've used is exclusively for a couple months here and there, but I always come back to Google sooner or later. Say what you want about the company, but Google Search is leaps and bounds better than the competition.
>>
>>52976736

Thank you for your opinion NSA.
>>
>>52974960
I've tried it a few times. I like their general attitude. The bangs are nice... but Google is simply better at finding what I want, albeit Google is absolutely nowhere near as good as it the incredible experience when it launched - despite their best efforts, there's too much blog spam, too many shitty forums, and even a few too many DMCA/right-to-be-forgotten takedowns where I would never have expected to see them.

It's all better than search used to be. I remember when the best we had was fucking HotBot, or even Altavista; when you were lucky if you got even one relevant result within the first 20 pages - and even before that, Archie (for FTP), Jughead and Veronica (for Gopher).

Every time I think we could have done better if we built search right in, I come round to having to admit that spammers will always fuck shit up.
>>
Could just use notEvil
>>
>>52976383
>>52976491
Ah, that's pretty neat I guess.
>>
Can you guarantee your privacy using any search engine or is it all based on trust?
>>
>>52977780
It's impossible to know if the search engine you're on is using the publicly available code unmodified. That's why you host your own
>>
>>52977838
>That's why you host your own
That sounds hard to do
>>
>>52977780
Only a self hosted searx would offer that, and most can't do that. Same with VPNs. Same with email. It's the internet afterall. Would be nice if we had some third party watchdog group to do code inspections to show sites are in compliance with what they say. Maybe get FSF to do code reviews, and if the pass they get a little image they can host, like a verisign emblem or whatever.
>>
>>52977995
That would be cool
>>
>>52974960
mostly for the bangs, and the private search as well.
>>
>>52974960

i use it because of no tracking and shit.

if no results are pertinents i just use a !g bang and it redirects me to encrypted google

i feel safe and protected in a warm space.

i love ddg

Yes, so I can trick myself into believing that I am not tracked all day on the Web!
>>

Don't fall for bait anon, but to answer your question, they claim to not make a profile for you that they can sell, so the only money they get is from adds directly related to the word you entered
>>
>>52981157
How do you know google tracks you? What specific mechanisms confirm such suspicion? Do they hold true for DDG? In other words, PROOFS?

That can't possibly be true considering they have a complete search history if you search while signed in to a Google account.

Who knows kind of record detail they have when you search "anonymously" though.
