It doesn't matter what OS you use, but what are some open-software applications that you couldn't go without?

Audacity: I spend a lot of time editing audio, and I also use it to verify quality of any new music files I download.
Bash. I use it for basically everything. Literally 90% of my favorite programs run off it.
The DE/WM I happen to be using $CURRENT_WEEK. Can't operate without some new, pretty way to interact with Xorg.
mpv. For music and movies n shit.
ffmpeg. I also do a lot of video/audio editing, compression, and codec testing. ffmpeg is literally the best video/audio/image converter/basic editor. I love everything about ffmpeg.

What's so great about vim? Is it faster to program with than emacs? Or is it yet another meme program that autists can't let go of?
>>
I just like doing everything in the terminal, it's faster than opening and closing a bunch of programs each time I want to do something.

It's part meme but it has its redeeming qualities. It's fast to make edits once you know the commands
>>
>>52910966
>I also use it to verify quality of any new music files I download
Spek is lighter and also open-source.

If typing is the only thing that holds you back you are not thinking enough about what you are programming.

Anyway, I think the best thing about it is that it's really easy to use in terminal, and easy to switch between commands and editing. Also even though they are counter intuitive at first, modes are probably the best thing in text editing. It also keeps your hands on the keyboard which adds kewlness.
