Considering an M.2 SSD as a new boot drive and giving my old SSD to a family member with a crappy laptop. I'm not sure how adding another PCI device would affect my GPU perf though. 4790k only has 16 PCIe lanes and I was almost sure that SLI 980's will take up 8 each and won't operate at anything less.

Also I'm on windows 10 now. It's ok.

I'm looking to make a mini itx build. It looks like a lot of boards are starting to be for ddr4 even on 1150. I thought haswell-e was the only one capable of fully supporting ddr4. price wise ddr4 vs ddr3 isnt that big of a difference. and Core i7-4790K vs Core i7-5820K doesnt seem to be that big of a difference. the only difference between a ddr4 build and ddr3 is the price for a 2011-v3 mini itx board.

long story short is a 1150 ddr4 build worth it?

How do you like the H80? I'm thinking about getting a H80i GT and selling my H100i on eBay. I want to put the moduvents back on top of my PC and can't mount the H100i anywhere else unless I got really creative with the hard drive cage. I'm not to keen on getting an air cooler because I like to control the fan speed through Corsair Link, if anyone knows of a program that allows you to control CPU fan speed I'm all ears.

Just built this as my new HTPC from an ASRock M8 barebones on craigslist. I absolutely love the thing. It was a royal pain to assemble but it's absolutely gorgeous, almost jewel-like. I wish I could get a better picture of it. Going to try in natural light tomorrow.

I'm actually tempted to take the i5-4690k and R9 290 off of my main rig to make this my primary system I like it so much, but I'm not so sure the 450W SFX PSU would be able to handle that.

As it is I can play Witcher 3, Fallout 4, and WOW in 60fps+ from something I whipped together from spare parts and craiglist for ~$300.

Hi everyone, newfag here.
I've been wanting to build my own gaming computer for some time now but I don't have any friends to help me choose the right components. I don't know if I should be posting this on /adv/ but you guys seem to know alot about computer parts so I'll ask for your opinion anyway.

Here's what I came up with :
CPU : AMD FX8320
GPU : ASUS GeForce GTX 750
Motherboard : ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 uATX
RAM : G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series
HD : Seagate Desktop HDD ST2000DM001
PSU : Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2SB

I've read that that ASUS Motherboard is not the best but I don't know why. Heck I don't even know what is the use of a motherboard besides connecting all the other components. Would anyone give their opinion on my choices and possibly even recommend a better starting setup?
PS. I'm on a budget so try keep it under $800.

Also, Windows 8 or 10?

>>52912870
If you're on a budget build and its your first time, my recommendation would be an entry level Skylake platform that will give you upgradability later on.

There is nothing wrong with ASUS, they are a reliable name brand. MSI, EVGA, ASRock and Gigabyte are as well. Choose from those brands and the specific features you desire. For entry level you need not go beyond $100 for a mother board. Also as far as price / perf goes, a 750 TI or 260x are not good choices. If you can squeeze another $50 on a GPU for a GTX 960 or R9 380, it will be worth it. Even the next step down to a GTX 950 or R7 370 is acceptable.
Ensure you get an SSD for your boot drive. It is imperative at this point as it will drastically improve your experience of using your PC. Be wary of Rosewill PSUs. I have heard horror stories and generally not extremely positive things. For PSUs stick with Corsair, Seasonic, Silverstone, or EVGA.

As for an entry level build -
i3-6320
ASUS H110m-A
8 GB (2x4) 2133MHz Ripjaws / Aegis
240GB Sandisk SSD PLUS
1 TB Seagate Barracuda
GTX 960 or R9 380
Corsair 430m
Any case you want that supports mATX. $30-$70 here is comfy.

Be sure to use pcpart picker.
>>
>>52912870
>>52913089
That build for easy visualization and pricing info.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/PQcqD3

Further I would just go W10 at this point. W8 is going to be end of life soon and doesn't support DX12. Further W10 is legally obtainable entirely free.

Hey /g/, first time building a PC. This is what I've got:

Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
Corsair H110I GT 113.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
MSI X99A GODLIKE GAMING EATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
Corsair Neutron XT 480GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
MSI GeForce GTX980 Ti 6GB Video Card (2 Way SLI) (I got two of these of course)
Phanteks Enthoo Luxe ATX Full Tower Case
EVGA SuperNOVA 1000G2 1000W 90+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Microsoft Windows 10 OEM (64-bit)
Kingwin FPX-003 Fan Controller

more RAM, Hyper TX3 some day.
750Ti maybe. or a Pascal card if a cheap one comes along rather quickly. as I'm using a 1000W PSU for the sole reason that it was free, I see no issues in powering anything that gets dropped in, in time.

HOWEVER

I've been considering swapping boards with my other box so this one can take advantage of more hard drive expansion in the long run and a possible RAID setup.

Replace the fan on the Evo with a different fan. I used a thicker PWM Delta off a Dell of some manner for my brother's 212+ with an FX-8350 so he didn't have to worry about anything ever with it after the fan calibration kicked in. sufficed to say, he only gets about 10C over ambient and the thing is pin-drop quiet.
doublecheck the fans on that thermaltake case, make sure they're not sleeve bearing for one, and make sure there's enough of them.
you can get a 4-pack of PWM dual ball-bearing fans on newegg and amazon for cheap from some decent brands. fans that come with cases are generally built to a cheap price by themselves and don't last very long, maybe about a year in some situations.

get the hoverhound extension and start browsing around newegg for stuff. it'll give you prices from a few sources including Amazon, TigerDirect and NCIX.

and, consider some Hitachi Ultrastars if you can find them cheap. great warranty and have a 1Mil Hour MTBF rating. the 3.5" Toshiba rebranded Hitachis are fine too, and cheaper, but the warranty is a couple years shorter.
Nothing against WD Blacks, though, just throwing a suggestion out there.
>>
>>52914168
You don't need a 5820k for gaming and "a little video editing". Save yourself some money and go Z170 + a 6600k or 6700k. All you would need is a 6600k, but if you're compelled you could go for the 6700k.

nice i like, however i need some advice as this is my first time building a computer.
my case is almost like yours except i dont have my graphics card in yet and i have a different cooler for my processor.

i see your fan on the bottom, i believe thats the exhaust side facing up? so that means air is taken from the bottom and cool air brought in right?

>heat rises derp

so i need an exhaust for heat to be release on top right? however my liquid cooling for my processor is there and it seems like the fans will just put heat on the liquid cooling. wouldnt this be bad for it? my only problem is how i should set up fans.

how should i put them?
also my ram might be in wrong place, i lost manual to know were to put them.

I have two SSDs mounted to the back, but am seriously considering adding some more trays to the front, just to show them off.
Worth it?

nice leds. I always thought white light would look weird in a computer, but this looks great.

the Ultra 10 is not standard ATX, only the power supply is. Pic related.
>boots off IDE because openboot limitations
>IDE bus limited to 15MB/s, onboard is shitty shit
>there's two SATA hard drives inside though
>Gigabit&USB2 cards
>airflow is horrible, had to drop that evercool thing in there to keep all 3 hard drives cool so they don't overheat
>onboard National Semiconductor 10/100 PHY gets so hot you can cook an egg on it if you don't superglue a heatsink onto the chip
>doesn't start booting after POST without keyboard attached
despite its downsides, it's been a nice system to work with. but the Blade 100/150 is better. faster CPU, and 2GB+ECC RAM limit.

wouldn't mind dropping newer parts inside an Ultra 24 case though. that's standard ATX all around and just deliciously asking for it.
