Drag and drop, or just give the subtitle file the same name as the video file (and have them in the same folder)

Nope. I'm actually on windows. I figured out that the config I have been changing used the linux file structure for screenshot-template. i.e. ~/Desktop. Trying to now figure out how Windows writes it.

What does this do because I get better performance without it, and from the looks of it, I wonder if it even enhanced the video quality.

It helps with exact video timing, reducing judder, the drawback it's that out has to render every refresh, so of your monitor of running at 60 hz it is going to be rendering those 60 frames, even of the video is at 24
It's even worse for people with displays that run at 144

>>
>>52881828
Download youtube-dl.exe and put it in same directory as your mpv.exe.
Then run mpv youtubelink.
>>
>>52881828
Easiest way would probably be to create a path environment variable of the mpv.exe and then just run a command "mpv [url]":

Win + R
mpv https://youtu.be/cZr7kTBv8bI

That's what I do at least.
>>
>>52881828
You have multiple ways:
1. You can add it to the path environment

2. Use Watch with mpv for Firefox ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/watch-with-mpv/ )
This requires a little finicking with the path since Windows has a retarded path system with \ instead of /. Try putting the path in single or double quotes).

3. If you use Chrome there is https://github.com/agiz/youtube-mpv

Because hwdec=yes disables high quality chroma algorithms, and instead uses whatever shitty algorithm your hardware uses.
>>
For the Insane Preset
What graphics cards would you recommend with that preset?
>>
>>52882264
Increase buffering ad libidum or save the streaming using youtube-dl "streaming link".
>>
>>52882395
Try it and see if you get lag, if you do, the preset is not for you.

I don't use it because I don't want oil filter NNEDI and because it makes my mpv lag. (fox grapes blabla)
>>
Why do I get no video when setting vo=opengl-hq ?
>>
can we discuss buffering a bit?
I've set my cache to 75MB.
So that means at any point it should have 37.5 MB of data on either sides? right?
>>
>>52882710
Unless you're at the beginning of the file, yes. In that case it used to be full 75mB to one side, but I think it got changed to just 37.5 because stupid timeouts.
>>
How can I load subtitles from youtube-dl?
>>
>>52882827
So If I scroll back within those 37.5 mB it should be instant?
>>
>>52882873
Unless your hard drive is extremely slow or you’re accessing a file over the net, it should be instant either way.
>>
Font face with no charmaps

What does this means?
>>
Somebody should pack in the autoload and stats scripts with the windows "installer"

Plebs ask for more of a GUI but with those two all I need is someway to mark what files have been watched.

Can lua rename a file with ~-** at the beginning of a filename once MPV reaches the end of a file?
>>
>>52882895
>hard drive is extremely slow or you’re accessing a file over the net,
So it doesn't store it to RAM?
>>
>>52882926
It does. What makes you think it doesn’t?
>>
>>52882845
Nevermind, I found it, I had to just put
--sub-lang
in the youtube-dl.conf file.
>>
>>52882944
I have bunch of shows on my private server.
When I try to play them and scroll back a few seconds it have to re buffer again.
>>
>>52882982
You’re above the 75mB then.
>>
>>52883013
I thought so too, but it wasn't the case.
This happens only when I scroll back.
>>
Speaking of buffer what's a good cache size for 4 GB RAM?
>>
>>52883054
Worksforme. Do note that things like seeking outside of the cache wipe it, if you want everything stored you ever accessed, you need to use cache-file.
>>
For some reason my mpv has started becoming laggy when using youtube-dl to watch Twitch streams.

My config:

https://p.teknik.io/hG5Ds

It stops playing for 0.5 seconds roughly every 2 seconds. Watching youtube videos works just fine.

Any tips?

Depends. You can specify the backbuffer individually

You just use more ram and don’t seek outside of it.

bilinear is fine for chroma, it's actually recommended to use soft scaler like softcubic, mitchell or even bilinear for chroma.

Oh right, many (anime) subbers use .ass instead of simple .srt, they also style the .ass subtitles themselves. put
no-sub-ass
in your config to use your own style. Keep in mind that this can break complex subtitles (like some subgroups are really autistic and alo try to translate signs or newspapers or whatever). Anyways this will only be an issue if you watch anime pretty much.
