DEAR ALL YOU /g/ENTLEMEN
I am bored, what program or tool do you need most in your life which currently does not exist?
No mass porn downloader bot thing.

Pretty much nothing, unfortunately. You have just brought up one of the reasons I am struggling finding the motivation to learn programming -- it seems useless.

OP here. "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Musume". Or Hunter if there's usage rights. You're a former field correspondent, which is why it's normal for you to be taking their pictures. They're all Chibi, but there's an item that brings all the girls go your yard that can only be purchased (kids can't stumble upon it this way.) With the radioactive waste toy they all mutate to non-chibi. Or the item can be a camera upgrade.

Make an android app that reads the google play store and checks for updated versions of installed apps, then notifies you that those apps need to be updated and provides a link directly to the .apk file -- all without a google account, without google play servies installed on the phone, and without google play store installed on the phone.

>b-but muh F-Droid

F-Droid doesn't do any of what I just described at all.

I'm fairly new to programming or being a code monkey but if I wanted to do that would it be viable to basically access the Google play store online (since you don't want it installed) and compare app versions to your currently installed apps, and if they differ to get the apk link and provide it?
Or is that retarded? I really know very little but figured this is actually a good app idea.

Work towards the ultimate goal that one day we don't need to type in commands. Make console obsolete for virtual machines. Let us setup a vm, lamp stack, mvc framework, dependency manager and version control without typing a single command.

I'd like something that could convert a bunch of files with numbers as the filename to all have the same length by putting extra zeros at the front. As in if the largest number is 673, a file named 1 would be changed to 001, and a file named 48 would be changed to 048.

This, everything I want already exists. I want to learn programming but I don't even know what programs I could make.
>>
>>52877286

They have the information on the web version of the Google Play Store, occasionally anyways. The big trouble is finding the .apk, since Google Play doesn't actually like to give you the .apk at all. I use several online services that work around that, and I know that they can somehow scan the page to get information like "version number" for whatever you select to download.

apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/ is one of them, and when that sometimes doesn't work I'll use http://apk-dl.com/.
>>
>>52881100

Are you on linux?

This bash script will add leading zeroes to numerical filenames for numbers up to 9999.

It uses dir, sed, sort, tail, echo, wc, for, and mv.

Save the code as something like rename.sh into the directory, then run it from a terminal with bash rename.sh.

#!/bin/bash
lastnum=$(dir [0-9]*.* -1 | sed "s/\..*$//" | sort -g | tail -1)
places=$(echo -n "$lastnum" | wc -c)
if [[ $places -eq 3 ]]
then
for i in [0-9].*; do mv "$i" "00$i"; done
for i in [0-9][0-9].*; do mv "$i" "0$i"; done
fi
if [[ $places -eq 4 ]]
then
for i in [0-9].*; do mv "$i" "000$i"; done
for i in [0-9][0-9].*; do mv "$i" "00$i"; done
for i in [0-9][0-9][0-9].*; do mv "$i" "0$i"; done
fi

mv might spit some errors, but the files should rename.

Modifying it to deal with any length of numbers is left to the reader.
>>
>>52881284

I started out with Windows batch scripting, then moved on to bash scripting, and I'm still learning. Maybe one day I'll try porting those to python or something.

Try making a script that will go to a random board on 4chan, and open up a random thread in Firefox.
>>
>>52882532
Just to confirm: is there anything I need to do to make it work up to 99999 other than change the 4 to a 5?
>>
>>52882817

Yes. The following code will work up to 99999.

I'm trying to figure out a way to make it work up to any number, but I'm a little stuck. Basically, the number of [0-9] plus the number of leading zeroes should add up to the greatest places (for example: 5 places, if the largest number is 99999).

#!/bin/bash
lastnum=$(dir [0-9]*.* -1 | sed "s/\..*$//" | sort -g | tail -1)
places=$(echo -n "$lastnum" | wc -c)
if [[ $places -eq 2 ]]
then
for i in [0-9].*; do mv "$i" "0$i"; done
fi
if [[ $places -eq 3 ]]
then
for i in [0-9].*; do mv "$i" "00$i"; done
for i in [0-9][0-9].*; do mv "$i" "0$i"; done
fi
if [[ $places -eq 4 ]]
then
for i in [0-9].*; do mv "$i" "000$i"; done
for i in [0-9][0-9].*; do mv "$i" "00$i"; done
for i in [0-9][0-9][0-9].*; do mv "$i" "0$i"; done
fi
if [[ $places -eq 5 ]]
then
for i in [0-9].*; do mv "$i" "0000$i"; done
for i in [0-9][0-9].*; do mv "$i" "000$i"; done
for i in [0-9][0-9][0-9].*; do mv "$i" "00$i"; done
for i in [0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9].*; do mv "$i" "0$i"; done
fi

I mean, I'm sure there's other "add leading zeroes" code on stackoverflow or something.
>>
>>52876326
stay dry, pupper
>>
>>52882817

This bash script will add leading zeroes to numerical filenames (1.jpg, 20.jpg, 300.jpg, etc) for any range of numbers.

It uses dir, sed, sort, tail, echo, wc, let, seq, mv.

#!/bin/bash
lastnum=$(dir [0-9]*.* -1 | sed "s/\..*$//" | sort -g | tail -1)
mostplaces=$(echo -n "$lastnum" | wc -c)
for i in [0-9]*.*
do
places=$(echo -n "$i" | sed "s/\..*$//" | wc -c)
let "lead=$mostplaces-places"
leading=$(for i in `seq $lead`; do echo -n "0"; done)
mv "$i" "$leading$i"
done

mv will give an error on the largest numbered file, but the rest will rename.
