Built a computer for a coworker this morning. When I asked them what OS they want between W7 and W10 they said "surprise me". Which to me comes off as a general statement. What should I install for their OS, /g/?
>>
Ubuntu
>>
Install Gentoo
>>
Clearly OP they want to be on the BLEEDING EDGE so install Arch
>>
Depends on what they use it for. If it's just fucking around on the web/word processing, just put Ubuntu on there. Otherwise stick with Win7.
>>
>>52865046
If you do not install a minimal OpenBSD system on his desktop right now, then everyone will be disappointed.
>>
What else but Gentoo?
>>
>>52865046
Win7, because you're not an autistic idiot who leaves work related decisions to a bunch of anonymous bastards on the Internet.
>>
Gentoo/Arch dualboot

All its for is Facebook, YouTube, word processing and mass storage.

G4400
ASUS H110m-a
8GB 2133MHz RAM
256GB Sandisk SSD
2TB Seagate Barracuda

Windows 7 but select the windows 10 upgrade so when you give it to them back they have to sit through the download and upgrade.

It's only fair if you spend time waiting around that they should too.

Windows 10. The upgrade is soon to be forced anyway. When his computer is forced to undergo an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, he'll come back and say

>Anon broke my computer
>Anon, my computer took forever to start last night then it kept turning on and off by itself. It was stuck at 15% so I just hit the power switch. Now it doesn't work at all. Know anything about that, Anon?
>Anon why did you give me this old Windows 7 thing? Now I have to upgrade it myself.
>>
>>52865123
You can't install Windows 7 on a Skylake CPU anyway.

M$ just isn't support new cpus on new OSs. Doesn't mean you can't try to use them on older ones and or create after market patches for them.
