CHINESE NEW YEAR EDITION
Pastebin with some general info: http://pastebin.com/wiYnLpTC
PREVIOUS THREAD: >>52847699
I ordered one of those android boxes from an HK based seller called tomtop, apparently the shipping address was incorrect and it's somewhere I don't know
I've asked for a refund but no go
Should I buy one? WIll I be able to run it with completely free software?
I wouldn't buy anything from DX since they don't publish negative reviews of products.
I have tried to review a shitty product couple a times but they always say my product was somehow faulty and thus I'm not eligible to review it. Then they ask me to send it back to China for refund.
Should I do it or is one of the other models better?
Two mini display port to vga and two 8mm tunnels.
Havent tested the cables yet
They're on break for chinese new year. Just hope they read your message before they send it.
I have a package leaving a US-LA warehouse from their website. I hope this doesn't affect it.
gf dropped her Redmi Note 2 for the 100th time and finally the screen broke but it's still working. I'm ordering a new screen and it's only costing me around €20!
Thank you based Xiaomi.
Of course there's an Indian guy with a video of how to do it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGjaAYpQL_U
I vote for Chinatsu chan as thread mascot
Recco me a decent ratchet screwdriver and precision screwdriver set /g/. That one ganzo g704 knife looks beast but do they have any OTF knives like the OTF Lightning?
Also that xiaomi router looks pretty slick but it's default OS kind of scares me
> decent ratchet screwdriver
Saw nothing worth mentioning. Stick with Wera or PB Swiss if you want decent.
> precision screwdriver set
LAOA or BEST sets are usually good enough.
> Also that xiaomi router looks pretty slick but it's default OS kind of scares me
Just some standard web interface. Use Chromium to get it translated if it's one that has no English firmware yet (some models do).
Beautiful Bluetooth, aux, fm, sd card speaker. Great but I paid overprice for mine. Would buy another one for a friend.
10-20 USD are cheap to normal for decent USB chargers with 2 * 2A and support for a bunch of devices.
That said, there are $2 housefire electrocution chargers:
They won't usually have quick charging protocols except sometimes for Apple and Samsung, so mostly you get 0.5A.
By cheaper I meant in comparison to Amazon.com which I can find 4.2amp dual USB chargers for ~8usd. Seems good to me unless I am missing something.
Actually, this thing looks a little more promising:
Just on the spec sheet, though.
Arguably, that's also $10 - but yea, seems okay on a glance.
Getting more detailed reviews like on
is usually meaningful, though. Most can't tell risky crap chargers from good ones.
Thanks for info link. I've never had issues with USB wall chargers but I've only used the .5a or 1a rated ones. I guess little can go wrong with them at that level. I want a high amp one with more ports but I understand they can be literal housefires and need more due diligence in purchase. Case in point this aukey brand
This one actually makes sense though.
Mechanical keyboard general? Absolute shit. No need for it.
Thinkpad general? Again, absolute shit, no need. Too narrow of a field for a general.
Priv Tracker general? What's the point even?
90's computer general seems to be a fucking joke, I can't even take it seriously.
>Pens and mechanical pens general
What the fuck. I didn't even know THAT existed. Fuck, what a shit thread idea.
So, the point of this post? CSG isn't the worst of the bunch and at least makes sense, seeing as its a very broad range of items.
>broad range of items.
In a sea of uncertainty too given it's China. Just another reason these threads are nice - collective feedback and research.
And discovering random cheap shit
Anyone tried these ? I've heard that they are pretty good
If you want the best earbuds you should wait for the VE MONK to come back in stock. I think they are in stock but you can't buy it right now because of china holidays. You can usually send the guy an e-mail and he will send it to you.
These earbuds are insane for the price.
I'll throw in my reccomendation for the monk. Just got mine yesterday and it's seriously suprised me. It's not at the level of my hd555, but you can't really expect that for the price. Certainly better than my portapros IMO.
> Thanks for info link. I've never had issues with USB wall chargers but I've only used the .5a or 1a rated ones
Many are dangerous for one or another reason.
> Case in point this aukey brand
Wow. Good point. I took it off the list & put Orico there instead.
is dried mango a meme at this point?
You mean the Redmi Note 3 Pro meme?
Anyhow, maybe one reason against it is that Xiaomi had the idea to introduce boot loader unlock codes on newer phones, which you need to use before you can replace the boot loader or root on most of 'em.
Great little flyer, very fast ,quick resoponse to controller, all flight modes worked well. I bought several of these at the the Xmas sale price. Build quality is better than expected, I,m a newbe to quads and this tough little quad has survived dozens of hard crashes and still keeps flying!
Don't write them off yet that product just seems to be a bad egg. Their 12w 2.4amp dual port and 30w 6amp tri-port get stellar reviews and pass a lot of independent testing it seems. Notably the 30w. Goes for cheap as well off Amazon.
After looking into it more it looks like anything quickcharge certified causes problems across the board.
Add borescope camera. Got a 10m waterproof USB one for $10 cad off ebay. Pretty random but I figure it'll pay itself off one day and it's neat.
>Redmi Note 3
>Redmi Note Pro
ain't these two different models ? not to mention that they both have 3 sub-models
I was thinking of getting the x10 because i would only use it for reading, taking notes, shitposting.
And less performance could be considered an advantage when it comes to battery life. Also i would flash some slimmed down ROM on it. The other thing is that it doesn't support certain 4g/lte networks, but it would be used on wi-fi exclusively.
Thanks for the tip tho i'll have a look at those "unlock codes".
I'm not sure the Helio X10 is at an advantage when both are stepped down (like happens when you just read).
One thing that might matter: The Redmi Note 3 Pro has a microSD slot again (Redmi Note 3 doesn't, the predecessor Redmi Note 2 has it).
Unlike with the Redmi Note 2, it is taking up one of the SIM slots on the Redmi Note 3 Pro, but at least you have that option.
> Thanks for the tip tho i'll have a look at those "unlock codes".
Looking at the Redmi Note 3 forums, I think they found a way to root *without* unlocking now, but then you can't OTA update the usual way, or use TWRP to backup your device (guess you'd have to make do with MIUI's own backup software, or Titanium backup after rooting).
I still think it's a very annoying "feature" Xiaomi added. Few other Chines companies have locked bootloaders.
> Don't write them off yet that product just seems to be a bad egg.
So, you suggest that we perhaps list specific models instead?
> After looking into it more it looks like anything quickcharge certified causes problems across the board.
Isn't that often on the receiving end when poorly implemented?
Going to buy some cheap ass odds and ends with my next purchase from ali for shits and giggles. I've already decided on a laser pen, but I can't decide if I want a red or a green one.
Anyone know of some other cheap stuff that you don't need but might be fun to have?
I decided to go with the Pro as it was only a little bit more and if the battery doesn't last long enough for me I can fiddle with the settings and try and limit turboboost or something.
If I had gone with the Plus and lacked power I'd always be annoyed I didn't get the faster model.
note 2 is an alright option as well, but it's a better deal to buy the note 3 for like 70-130 bucks more.
>plus 1 gig ram
>certain versions have fairly better chipsets
>muh unibody aluminium housing
>fingerprint sensor meme
depends on you, i guess
but there is this whole locked bootloader nonsense (>>52869957)
I am buying this one http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Original-Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-3-4G-Metal-Body-Fingerprint-Mobile-Phone-MTK-Helio-X10-Octa-Core/32559355354.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.1.TdjUkl&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_3,searchweb201644_5_505_506_503_504_502_10001_10002_10016_10017_10010_10005_10011_10006_10003_10004_10009_10008,searchweb201560_1,searchweb1451318400_-1,searchweb1451318411_6448&btsid=fa45ea44-06a2-497e-8e9f-7068bf2d9598
are xiaomi pistons better or worse than those
also where the fuckle do you get xiaomi pistons that aren't fake
ITS OVER BIG BOI
ITS ALL OVER
DROP THAT MAJOR WHILE YOU CAN
I've removed (replaced it with Orico) from my update / fork thing of the list.
Thanks for the seconda opinion. I figure it might be better to keep it off the recommendations.
I think it would get painfully long if we added all things to avoid? It might better suit some filterable database.
Better to just consider them judgement calls / things you should investigate, and list safe / nice options for ease of shopping?
I don't think one should compare earbuds and IEMs. IEMs are usually much better. VE MONK is an exception though.
You can't really go wrong with it. It's 5 bucks.
I see a lot of people here recommending Xiaomi Pistons. But there are tons of great chinese IEMs.
Almost any IEM from 'Easy Earphones (http://www.aliexpress.com/store/519064)' is a great choice. Personally, I recommend the SENFER UE or the Easy UE (2 and 3). .
Small RC done or motorized glider plane? ($10-20 get you something pretty cool to fly nowadays.)
Xiaomi's various gadgets? (Fitness band, USB Fan / reading lamp, power bank, ... can be very useful, but isn't always necessary to get in advance)
Solar panel under hardened resin coating for a DiY USB solar charger?
Cool stuff, I'm going to order an Orico 4 port mains charger from Amazon UK and see how this one goes.
Looking at the charger/cable stuff on Aliexpress, Orico, Aukey and Anker all virtually look the same. You do wonder if they are made in the same factory complex and just a have a different name slapped on?
> You do wonder if they are made in the same factory complex and just a have a different name slapped on?
Orico is the OEM for some Anker gear and others, yes, but I don't think the brand belongs to them.
> ORICO is the No 1 USB peripherals and HDD Peripherals and Factory in China which mainly engaged in HIGH-END market of USB 3.0 Hub, USB charger, HDD docking/enclosure, and NAS enclosure...etc. At this area, ORICO currently occupy 63% share of supplies in China, we are providing OEM/ODM service to many top customers, such as IBM, Western Digital, Seagate, ANKER, B&H Photo, Imation, ASUS, TigerDirect.com, SATECHI,Systemax, Plugable,Micro Center,Flextronics ...etc
Europe, Hungary reporting in.
I have a friend who's ordered one before as well as a whole lot of other things from ali, including a calculator, a dildo... and he did never have to pay anything other than the amount of money, written on the site. Except one time, he told me, he have had ordered a suit and it was stopped at the customs or something. I can't recall the story tbqh.
Customs is a national thing. I don't think it happens to US citizens doing private imports?
Even in general, very often small items / cheap shipments like that are excluded from customs.
But you need to know how it is in your place...
> Also, are there any keychain (like AAA) sized LED flashlights that are any good?
Olight & Nitecore have some.
That said, the higher-end key chain flashlights (which tend to use 16340/CR123A) generally seem to cost a little more than the bigger ones.
I'm thinking of getting a few rechargable batteries and leaving the alkaline battery jew behind.
How much are the shipping prices on turnigy batteries? I am wondering because I saw starter set of eneloops at a local discount store for $20, and it came with 8 AA cells and a charger.
The guide also mentioned the Li-ion cells. What type would I get to use in AA powered thingys?
Yes, was reported good like 1-2 threads ago & has the matching ratings on stores. It should definitely be quite good.
I can't however tell you how suitable it is as eBook reading device.
This kind of endurance usually requires a big drone, not a fun little quadcopter. Or an electrical glider plane, these fly a lot longer.
But you know you can swap batteries and also fairly quickly charge lithium packs, right?
> How much are the shipping prices on turnigy batteries?
Depends entirely on warehouse picked, where you live, and quantities shipped. I think you'll have to check.
If you can't get them cheap, then you still could just get Amazon Basics or Eneloops locally, from eBay or Japan, and only get the charger from China. Or make do with GP ReCyko / Ikea Ladda / other cheap LSD NiMh.
> The guide also mentioned the Li-ion cells. What type would I get to use in AA powered thingys?
They are almost all not intended as drop-in replacements for 1.2V cells.
There are just an increasing number of devices that use these newer, better lithium batteries. Which sometimes have step-up voltage converters to alternatively also work with AA. But they're new devices. The old ones won't do Lithium chemistry batteries in general.
KZ's phones actually sound different in almost all variations. Maybe this one doesn't, but it'd be the exception.
But yea, the lineup is huge.
Report me to 9gag and reddit the choice is yours
I'm hoping it will fit in this case with my WiFi Pineapple NANO
There were some posts on Head-Fi that had a small comparison of a bunch of them, at least how they sound to that person. I wonder if anyone ever is going to buy and do "a lot" of them. There are so many...
Well, I *did* add some of my favorites that I think are superior to other models for one or another way into the guide, to the existing -I think it was two- entries...
I bought a Anker PowerCore 20100 20000mAh charges the iPhone 6s seven times, the Galaxy S6 five times or the iPad mini 4 twice.
I was slightly sarcastic, doesn't translate well over the internet. 15Ah worth of flat packs + safe electronics cost more, for all I know.
That said, I sure hope it works for you! The idea of having it all in a small pouch is pretty fancy, I guess.
what the fuck are these
I've seen identical models for the same price labeled as inverters, boost converters, transformers, and they all use the same copied and pasted specs
I bought two and I tried to reverse engineer one, but it was actually potted pretty well and I couldnt figure it out
Seems to have a 2.6Ah battery (3.6V rating)?
The 20Ah battery pack of Xiaomi's will have ~90% efficiency at the 5V output, and maybe the HTC M8 can charge it's battery with like 80% efficiency (perhaps this is a bit high... not sure).
5.5 is the result of that, but well, maybe around 5 times. Perhaps 4.
PS, since that wasn't very helpful overall: Some things you can do to reduce the risk: Charge this in a fireproof location. Discard if it develops any bloating.
Measure whether it reduces and terminates the charging at some point + how much power you put in and how much comes out with a small USB meter. Measure temperature on the pack with any means you like (strip thermometer or IR thermometer are the obvious means).
> Item location: Shenzhen SEG wholesale electronics market
It seems fine

Just ordered a doogee x5s for a poor friend to get into the smartphone world
The current mediatek mt6735 soc performs roughly on par with the 1.7ghz
Snapdragon 600 quad in my HTC one m7 and it comes with basic android 5.1 for $69.99, it's a bit exciting
ordered a battery case for my GS3. GS3 serves as my backup phone now and this thing was too cheap to pass up, on some sort of clearance sale.
So this is my ghetto mic boom for my Zalman clip.. Is there any cleaner solutions for something like this?
I'm not sure what a Wii U needs, I think FAT32
But I've just noticed that Windows is only giving me exFAT and NTFS options, and I really can't remember if there's supposed to be a FAT32 option or not.
I know I've formatted other sd cards with the built in tool and they're fine
a knife sharpener. if this doesn't work out ill use a belt sander
I just got this in the mail today. And it's fucking awesome
I'm in love with the HY-101FM .
Plays straight from microSD, and really good bass for the size and price. Would be neat if it included bluetooth, but I never really use it anyways.
It's great for indoor use on top of a desk (extra bass reinforcement). For outdoor use I recommend the big Sylvania speaker I reviewed last thread.
>can't order any food off alie because I live in New Zealand
I just want to try some dried mangoes...
It seems familiar and according to Wikipedia we have them.
I'm sure I'd be able to find the mangoes somewhere if I looked since my city has got tons of chinks but I just haven't looked yet
I head about some of them. I don't know if they're really good.
You are supposed to take interneships and do networking.
I don't know why people rush themselves to get done ASAP unless mommy and daddy pay for everything and they have nothing else to do.
If you're normal, you usually take about 5 years to finish college and you have a job for the majority of the time, any shitty job.
Most programs require more than the 120 to graduate, in one way or another.
Then factor in that 12 hours is still full time, but not enough to graduate in 4 years.Factor in the maybe 2 fuckups even a good student may have.
This shit ain't high school m8.
60% of students graduate in 6 years.
Less than 2/3rds of students graduate on time.
I don't understand why people rush to graduate as quickly as possible. Do you think companies want to hire the youngest possible workers? Fuck no, they would rather have someone older if they had the same experience.
>Then factor in that 12 hours is still full time, but not enough to graduate in 4 years.Factor in the maybe 2 fuckups even a good student may have.
what courses are these? none of my friends or i have actually failed to graduate within 4 years, and we all got our of engineering/computer science degree
>hurr buying cheap chinese shit because it's so cheap
You think you're really smart if you let other people pay 4-5x as much when they buy stuff locally?
What if everyone starts buying Chinese shit and no one buys from shops in their respective country?
Buying in China should only be allowed for wholesaler.
Either big ass companies get money (which pays the Chinese for making the product) or I buy directly from the Chinese. Literally no difference.
There's no way in hell that everyone would start buying from China. The normal consumer wouldn't wait 1-2 months for a product.
>What if everyone starts buying Chinese shit and no one buys from shops in their respective country?
Then it would be exactly like it is right now, except that the middleman gets cut out
But what right do they have cutting out the suppliers, pushing all the middlemen out, buying direct from the manufacturer.
Aliexpress this, Ebay that, all them Chinks, putting Americans out of work
If they want to keep their jobs, maybe they should get into manufacturing better goods at a higher price point. I'm not gonna pay them just to keep around cheap Chinese shit in warehouses on American soil.
I cannot think of a single legitimate use for NFC. Turning it off is the first thing I do every time I flash a new ROM.
Anyway for those people looking for IEMs, try the TTPod T2s. Two balanced armature drivers and a dynamic driver for like $90 shipped.
The only thing is that the build quality is not great. I've only had it for less than a year and the jack needs to be resoldered already. But then again it's cheap Chinese shit.
I've found a couple little convenient uses for it
>tag on my nightstand
when I plop my phone there it silences
>tag on my desk
when I plop it there it turns on my Wi-Fi
>tag under the palmrest of my laptop
when I tap my phone to it it turns on the phone's Bluetooth and creates a PAN
So did I, but I'm not wary of buying food from Alibaba. I bought it from a Daiso in another state, and now that I've found it again on here I'm just wondering if it's safe to eat food from a Chinese website.
Personally I find it disgusting. I don't believe there are that many people who appreciate dried fruit (incredibly high sugar content btw), so it's definitely a meme.
Next up: STATE BANQUET BEVERAGE, DISTINGUISHED ORTHODOX COCONUT PALM DRINK.
As someone with a fucking NFC chip in my hand I always thought NFC for that was kinda besides the point.
I mean, you could just use GPS (Battery draining aside) or widgets.
I guess with the time it takes to open an app and shit with all the options NFC's probably faster.
Shit anon, you've changed my mind, and not by saying anything new.
But perhaps timed events would still be better.
>when I tap my phone to it it turns on the phone's Bluetooth and creates a PAN
This is genius.
Only when the screen's on.
To be fair the guys who where responsible for that where given the death penalty.
768 is plenty for NFC.
Chip in my hand has that, it's enough for my full contact details with 300 bytes free.
Wanna throw a little program or something in the spare space, perhaps a melody?
Would it work on my Huawei Ascend Mate 7? Just don't want to purchase it and find out a month later they don't work.
Formatting some can be hard, but that's usually because of the internal chip used, not the size.
Once I found something to format mine with it worked on every phone I've tried, windows or android.
And mine's not even a fully NFC complaint chip.
I use to drink it quite a lot, but if I'm not mistaken they sold both a sugary version and a sugar-free (or at least less sugar) version. I had the latter once, but could never find it again.
How do you buy at Alibaba as a non-company individual customer?
So /CSG/ just got my first round of cheap chinese shit delivered. Included a pair of these things:
Because they were like 1.41 on sale over new years. Got here pretty quick(like 2 weeks all told, which is good for china shit). I expected something that'd fall off in an hour but I've had it on for a day or two now. Doesn't leave any residue when you pry it back off either.
>ordered cheap restraint set from amazon (cuffs, collar, etc)
>wonder a week later why it hasn't shown up
>Shipping from China
>arrives a month later
>open bag and suddenly my entire room smells like printer toner
>wash and scrub the cuffs/etc
>stills reek of something that smells like toner; what
i guess for $15 including shipping i can't complain
myself. i find self-restraint really calming. can be fun in a more sexual way if you're creative, too, but i imagine it's a lot more fun with a partner to lock you up and tease you!
e2046 makes excellented pre-painted knock-offs, but they often cost more than the originals (at least for PVC models at pre-order prices).
Also for cheap, Aliexpress. The famous characters usually got knock-offs, like this:
Note that product shots often are from original China-made-for-Japan manufacturing, and your knock-off's paint job will often be worse. But not necessarily much worse every time.
bought from e2046 once for a prepainted gk; pretty good but they are really fucking expensive
also, have you even seen the pictures in your link? while i must applaud the seller for taking real pictures, there is some massive QUALITY going on there.
> bought from e2046 once for a prepainted gk; pretty good but they are really fucking expensive
Yep. They're only attractive for figures that always were fucking expensive (Volks or whatever) or have very limited availability on the market and extremely inflated prices. Or if you paint them yourself, which is a lot of work.
> while i must applaud the seller for taking real pictures, there is some massive QUALITY going on there.
Obviously, but I know some people don't care as long as it's better than a random fast food chain or movie merchandise figure.
You clearly didn't look hard. This site has a whole category dedicated to them
>mybad, must be time to go to sleep
What does this even mean, no tracking codes work,, is it in my country?
