What are some technology related memes you fell for?
I fell for
>16 gb of ram
>replacing thermal paste
>sticking with windows 7
>he didnt fall for the ssd meme
jesus christ i mean falling for memes is ok sometimes, but people who buy this kind of shit are just plain stupid.
you dont get better audio quality by buying a more expensive sound, dac or whatever. you dont get better audio quality by having your audio in 24bit 192 khz or whatever. you dont get better audio quality by using optical instead of plain old rca.
the only thing that matters, that you actually notice, is the quality (bitrate) of the audio files on your hdd and the quality of your headphones/speakers.
Seriously this board is full of more underage poor fags than /v/. I tossed out all that shit and got a macbook recently.
OS X is fucking amazing for coding and you don't look like some ghetto piece of shit who can't afford proper tech.
the more you have, the more it will use
Depends on the movie, some use cinema scope, where some use 16:9 instead
>16 gb of ram
Some poorly made PS4/Xbone ports require more than 8GB to run "smoothly" like Batman Arkham Knight.
8GB is not enough for some software like InVesalius when handling large DICOM files.
Well, sort of. Yes, the audio quality from the source will ultimately trump any efforts but if you've got only FLAC audio then you have to look elsewhere for degraded quality.
Before anyone goes freaking out, yes 320kbps is barely distinguishable from FLAC. FLAC is technically a better format but most people cannot tell the difference.
not him and i dont have any kind of expensive setup, but with my microphones i notice a huge difference between internal amps in my recording things and with external amps. also if i listen to the same files say in my desktop its a huge difference to if i listen through my old DS. The DS dithers the shit out of everything
I use Windows. The core of my server setup is Linux though. Ironically it is Ubuntu server, I have it setup as an NFS share using Infiniband to my ESXi host which has both Windows and Linux VMs on it.
>He thinks you need a custom rom to use adblock
Samsung Hard Drive
Sansa Clip Plus
I actually don't regret any of these all that much and so far have had the sense to avoid meme keyboards. I wish I had fallen for the Bitcoin meme though.
Well, considering that he's running Windows Server 2012, I'd assume that is a server.
There's also the fact that the picture shows 16 out of 16 slots used, suggesting that we're looking at, at least, a dual socket 2011 setup.
Wow, that was very difficult to figure out.
this is the least meme tech i have ever owned. bought twice of them already, owned each for about 4 years. does what it's suppose to do, very efficient and no background hiss. perfect for jogging as well. also cheap as fuck.
Oh don't worry, I use libvirt+KVM as well. I ran into issues with Proxmox. The most annoying was the web interface would decide to stop working at random. I switched to VMWare because I liked the manageability of Proxmox but couldn't deal with the downtime.
Is the gaming laptop meme only a meme because laptop GPU are so expensive?
In that case what's wrong with connecting to your laptop an external GPU that's worth its price in performance? obv external monitor and input device too.
>you don't look like some ghetto piece of shit who can't afford proper tech.
If you care about how normies see you, stay with your Mac. If you care about how enthusiast people who love what they do see you, get a Thinkpad.
I laugh more with these people than with normies, so personaly my choice is made.
so how long will it be before 16GB RAM isn't a meme? 2018? 2020?
The mechanical keyboards meme.
Paid 75$ for this piece of junk and it felt worse than the simple 10$ micro$hit curvy keyboard I'm using now.
>wahh I bought things that /g/ recommended even though I didn't need it, no one should buy that thing because I don't know what it is supposed to be good at!
Guess what, thinkpads aren't supposed to be high end gaymen laptops, they are a sturdy inexpensive laptop for light use.
what do you code? do you actually release shit or are you just dicking around in uni?
tell me your company and/or github so i can avoid your shit.
(disclaimer: i'm fine with people using macbooks and os x to develop, i have one myself, but thinking thinkpads, android and linux are a meme just makes you a stupid person, period. if you're a programmer and you don't acknowledge all platforms, the world can do without your software.)
The only time when an external dac is actually necessary is when your setup is producing noise (usually a high pitched whine or buzzing) because of interference from other internal computer components. This is pretty much only a problem for laptop users or people using shitty front mounted audio jacks on their cheepo Mid Tower.
>people who need lyrics are children
>my preferences are superior
>lyrics can't be melodic because i'm ignorant to language as an art form
>i insult people randomly for no reason
you should just stfu and think about what you're saying.
Is there any actual plan to develop Minecraft 2, or it's just hearsay and people just imagining it will come out in the future?
Can you imagine how shit it will probably be?
If the current Minecraft can be changed and have features added to it through updates, then there would be no point in making a version 2 instead of making it an update, except for money (they will be able to sell the game another time to its perennially-on-the-spectrum userbase), and like every game made as a business decision to tap into a fanbase, it will most likely be total lowest-common-denominator-pandering garbage.
I hope Notch is happy about this.
>desktop mic + headphones > headset
Thankfully, with sound cards I learned my lessons before the 30-day return periods ran out.
I learned a lot from those though.
What kinda fucking game would that be? The 'genre' is oversaturated so MC2 would just fall in with the other similar titles.
As for Notch, fuck him. He has billions, can afford a shrink, yet he bitches to the public about how much money he has yet he's still unhappy.
>16 gb of ram
Actually valid if you need to virtualize a couple of servers.
>replacing thermal paste
It can make a difference but only if you are overclocking
>sticking with windows 7
It is still the best version of widows that gets security updates.
Pure meme to make you spend money
I fell for the intel meme. Should've gotten a 8350 and overclocked it beyond all that's holy.
Otherwise, I don't really think I've been memed. I've got an SSD, a 32" 1440p screen (I fell for the 4k meme but got refunded so it doesn't count) and I still use windows 7 because windows 10 is falling for a meme.
Hooking my phone to my stereo's tape in with a headphone jack to rca adapter cable (analog to analog) and playing google music (320kb mp3) thru the speakers sounds nowhere near as good as playing a cd.
cd's burned from flac files sound better than cds burned from mp3s, but the lossy birate diff doesn't degrade the sound quality as much as a samsung galaxy S4's shitty dac does.
I never understood people who say that there is no gaming laptop. I can play any modern game tho most of latest releases i can run at medium setting. I have a laptop and i play new games on it. Works for me.
A shrink wouldn't really make him happy, since the things that give him depression (his money, status, and the consequences that these things brought to him) are still present in his life.
He should probably change his life to something else.
He could either embrace the billionaire lifestyle by fucking whores all his life and blow his money on hedonism, or use a part of his money to fake his own death and restart his life somewhere else after some gym and cosmetic surgery.
That's exactly my point.
That's why if a second chapter ever came out, it won't be because it makes sense to make one (like a normal game with a stori that progresses), but it will be because of business.
>>...is still the best...
It really isn't. 8.1 was better than 7, and 10 is better than both.
Win 10 with Classic Shell and Grid move is absolutely the best OS out there.
>Win 10 with Classic Shell and Grid move is absolutely the best OS out there.
Name someone good about windows 10 that isn't SaaS bullshit, task manager, and iso mounting. What in your opinion makes 10 better?
Because they are disgustingly overpriced and they overheat easily so extended play sessions cause frame dips. For the price of a decent one I could make a PC run anything maxed out with a good frame rate, not to mention with a better keyboard and a more comfy viewing distance. Laptops are useful, but they aren't really for playing games.
Simple and intuitive interface, can lean on 25+ years of Windows based mental 'muscle memory'.
Mostly widely used OS, most widely developed for OS. Best application support.
Out-of-the-box functionality with nearly everything; the most support resources, paid and unpaid, available for things that don't.
Best driver support.
Simple and intuitive permissions system, dialogue box based elevation, no console driven nonsense (unless you want that, then have at it).
Plenty of reasons.
I can't think of a single reason not to use Win10 unless I had a low spec machine, or if I was doing a ton of C / C++ work; in both cases I would use Linux.
I'm fairly agnostic, I run Windows on a work laptop, desktop, and Transformer book, Chrome OS / crouton Xubuntu on a Chromebook, and keep a persistent storage 32gb flash drive Lubuntu on hand....
... But anyone who thinks that Windows is somehow lacking is deluding themselves.
Name something bad about Windows that isn't tin foil hat nonsense, half truths, and idiocy about telemetry or FOSS/GNU shitposting.
You can. You just have to, *gasp*, clickb through about three different menu trees to get into the menu to configure your update schedule, update download settings, or disable them entirely.
I said Windows 10 was lacking compared next to seven, not that the Windows ecosystem is shit. Most of your comparisons are just as/if not more true with Windows 7 then with Windows 10, hence why I asked what makes Windows 10 better than seven in your opinion. Ten added little if you have no use for an always online operating system, and it took away control over updates.
I said control updates, not stop all updates including security ones like a drooling retard.
You didn't actually.
You specifically highlighted the place where I said "best OS". In any case:
Better than 7?
Drivers for new applications.
Multi platform support and syncing via Microsoft account integration.
As far as controlling updates?
It's the exact same as Windows 7 has:
Choose to let Windows manage (auto download and install), auto download but use install, neither download not install, but check and notify the user of available updates, or turn them off entirely.
You can choose what updates you want to download, uninstall what updates you decide you don't want water the fact.
I'm not sure what your point is.
>You can choose what updates you want to download, uninstall what updates you decide you don't want water the fact.
No you can't, you can only temporarily defer updates now. If you do not install them within a certain time period you lose your security updates. That is very different and caused by the philosophy switch to Windows as a service. The only exception to this is if you have a volume licensing agreement with Microsoft and then Enterprise copies can receive security only updates.
In it's current state Windows 10 is not the better choice from the power user's perspective simply because it doesn't add enough meaningful features to justify the update, especially with all the reported driver issues and upgrade failures. Many of the promised additions to Edge like add on support have yet to go live, and Direct X12 won't see use for years still. Unless you really love Saas features, or Cortana there are no current compelling reasons it is superior unless you want something new because it is new.
What I mean by lacking is it lacks user control, certain GPO setting are completely non-functional unless you have enterprise edition, and the whole debacle with updates. Let's also remember the forced telemetry even on the "off" setting, sure it isn't spying but it doesn't respect the user's choice like older Windows versions did. An offline OS with as needed online applications is a superior model from a power user's perspective then an online OS with features you can't fully control.
Linux in any shape or form meme
Finally the greatest meme of all. Wasting hours on this Furry anime loving Apple product sub reddit that is filled with useless generals without which would leave only a handful of threads none of which are technology discussion.
