I fell for the ThinkPad X201 meme. What do I do with this thing?
Take it with you and do some recreational programming while drinking starbucks.
You'll get lots of attention because it looks like it came from the 1990s.
Code in emacs while drinking rare craft beer.
Im currently raising money for one as my Samsung is too
big for lectures and notes, its just bulky. A 12inch laptop would be perfect.
What about battery life, is it decent on "low energy consumption" mode?
Use it? Its my daily driver, the battery life is solid and its comfy.
you can modify xinitrc to prevent applications from entering hidpi mode at all.
otoh, dpi is really meaningless when viewing angles is universally shit for almost all Thinkpads. I can't believe it took so fucking long for them to actually ship T4xx series with non-garbage screens.
Got ons myself, great laptops
replied to from my x201 that i use everyday in class
solid little laptop, loving how portable it is
>not using superior weird smelling x220
It's a great laptop family, I use it for school.
To anyone with a t420 or something similar and x220. How much bigger is the t compared to the x? I'm on the fence about what to get. It'll be for school and dicking around at work so I suppose to doesn't have to be super small.
I just wasn't sure how bulky the t is.
I love my X201 but it has been annoying lately:
>Slow ass wireless, iperf testing at 20 Mb/s and bit rate staying below 802.11g speeds
>I make sure wireless card and antennas are all physically fine
>Everything is fine
>Speeds are still poop
>I figure it has to be a hardware issue with my wireless adapter--I bought my X201 refurbished after all
>Buy replacement wireless adapter
>Wait 3 days for it to get here
>Replace its Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 with the new Centrino Ultimate-N 6300
>Reinstall Ubuntu 14.04
>Speeds are verified turd-tier still
>Do some more research in my spare time over the next few days
>A few forum posts mention Intel having a firmware bug in this Centrino series for the Linux kernel
>Groan-zone because now I have to deal with Lenovo's shitty whitelist for its mini PCIe wlan slot
>Buy ANOTHER replacement non-Intel wireless adapter
>Wait 3 days for it to get here
>Replace its Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 with an Atheros 9280
>Scour the Internet and dozens of dead links for a modified non-whitelist X201 BIOS
>Finally find one on a hackintosh forum (???)
>Whitelist removal works
>Make sure ath9k is installed
I'm enjoying my 270-300 Mb/s connection now. I don't really know if it was worth the effort honestly. I'm not sure how often I'll be able to take advantage of it.
happened to me once.
a gentoo user who would carry about three or four laptops with him and use them at his desk complimented the aesthetic of my chinkpad.
pretty sure he was a /g/entleman, considering he looked autistic af
The only one who will approach you would be redditors. They feel so happy thinking their circlejerking is sort of a secret club they are likely to come to you with something like "hey bruh, nice laptop. I see you're running gnoooome :^) I am on KDE myself..."
Or maybe that's neo /g/
So you're saying anon should spend 4x as long taking notes just because he can?
