Find me a nicer sub $1000 understated metallic wristband watch that doesn't have 3 unnecessary dials.
I don't support stealing of course, but I'm not even aware of _any_ stores around here selling branded watches that aren't all behind a glass (even the 20 euro terrorist casios are always there)
some hardware stores have no-name digital watches on the shelves, I think, though
>mfw when waiting for two watches in the mail.
I thought the meme i started died by now.
But still, welcome brother. And extra points for the halal made in nippon version.
thats the thing though, Seikos Timexs and other practical shit are really well priced here because there's not much demand for them..
Most of the locals see watches as jewelry pieces not time pieces.
Sure is butthurt aspie in here. I'm sorry you can't into social situations, but you'll get better (not.)
I will have you know that I didn't post a single thing for the last half of the year.
Damn either he is really a poor soul or the best shitposter ITT
Which fictional characters wear the nicest watches?
Hannibal has a $170k Patek, which is the most expensive I can currently think of (5270G white gold chrono), but not really the nicest. Just a kind of interesting detail.
Birthday present from my girlfriend. Until you actually wear a watch daily you don't really know how useful they are. Before I would just check my phone for the time, but a watch seems to make it much more convienient
>people keep telling me Im wearing my watch on the wrong hand and that I need to fix that
>want to adjust time
>have to give yourself a reach-around to unscrew/pull out the crown
unless you're wearing a smartwatch in which case you're already used to reach-arounds on the regular
I did that when I was a kid, then my parents told me that I should wear it on my left.
Then as a preteen or so I got a uh, different kind of watch as a gift - it wasn't exactly a pocket watch, it just had a small "clip" thing that you attached to a loop in your jeans, otherwise it looked like a generic mall sportswatch
that was actually a pretty cool watch, it had a small LED light on its side and it was easy to deattach from your pants, so it served as a light as well. I wonder what those are called (if they're called anything in particular).
...looks like they're just called "clip watches"
mine was pretty similar to this one, though a bit more petite
And this is no different than winding, something people have done for ages on the wrist more than adjusting the time. Not to mention that it's not exactly hard, as in putting stress, on the crown while its being worn unless you're fat and/or hamfisted.
winding on the wrist just sound incredibly uncomfortable in addition to being potentially risky
anyway, its more something you should avoid if you really want you watch to live long and prosper. I'm not saying it will damage all watches.
Hey guys, you have to see this awesome add from homungous Depardieu :
(btw, dont know if CUSTOS is shit or shittier than the average garbage the russians sell in watches)
>Until you actually wear a watch daily you don't really know how useful they are. Before I would just check my phone for the time, but a watch seems to make it much more convienient
Don't read anything bad into this, but, how old are you?
It must be a generational thing because everyone may age still wears watches.
I think we must be the last generation to do so natively.
I've personally noticed that more people of ~my age (of the ones I know) have started wearing watches as they've progressed further into their studies / jobs. Relatively few of us wore watches when we were upper secondary school kids, now that we're earning our doctorates, working real jobs or whatever, most wear one.
I guess it only launched a year ago. A French actor, designed by a Swiss company, and is calling them Russian luxury watches, in a time where Russia is poor as fuck. You can't get worse than that.
I find it odd as well.
I wore a watch while being a kid during grade school (some cheap digital), switched to wearing pic related in middle school and threw it in a drawer after couple of years.
Stopped wearing watches till a year after i finished HS, then i kinda bought the Raketa and started shitposting regularly to /wt/.
Boy that was in 2014 i think, quite a while since then.
It was better before the tripfag came in and everyone started posting the same shit over and over.
Well, anything back when these threads were a seldom occurrence was far nicer.
Steel Patek 3970E with advanced research movement.
I agree on that, there was a lot more anons back then and larger variety of watches being posted.
Plus most of the newfags fell for my SNZG15 meme.
I disagree. There were more quality posting back then but fewer posters.
That was what though, 2-3 years ago?
I think i started coming to /wt/ in late 2014 (according to when i bought the Raketa).
the sad part is that even if I could afford it, I would probably be too much of a poorfag bitch to wear that much money on my wrist most of the time anyway
It's alright, but not one I would choose. The chapter ring is weird. There are so many models, it's a shame only a select few are widely available and people don't care to do research or be original.
My current one. I actually bought a few around the same time but I like this one so much that I never wear the others.
As the previous poster said I doubt any (non-GPS + ABC) in-watch or wrist mounted compass would work good enough for actual use. Guess there's the Garmin Foretrex series if you have a very serious need - but that's not a watch nor particularly clean looking.
Ohmeegaw Speedmastah MAAAAAAAN ON THE FUCKKIN MOOOON cunts!
Operator watch traser H3
Sapphire glass and tritium fluorescent tubes. Best purchase of my life. Got it 8 years ago and never failed.
Hey man nice watch ! Seiko fan here aswell.
It's the Eone Bradley watch. Its designed for blind or the visually impaired so they can feel where the small steel balls are on the watch to tell the time (the ball on the main face is supposed to be the minutes hand and the one around the case is supposed to be the hours hand).
It was originally made for a soldier who lost his eye sight in war or something like that. I guess its a interesting concept and made with good intentions, but nothing really beats the style of a normal hands watch since this design seems to really just complicate it if you're not visually impaired.
I wear my watch on my right wrist. And there's no specific hand to wear a watch. I've heard you're supposed to wear it on the left wrist so you can wind it but it apparently puts pressure on the crown.
But i couldn't really give two shits about which wrist to wear it on. Just wear your watch on whatever side you find most comfortable, for me it's right, for others it's left.
Last thread i said Omega Speedmaster Arctic Explorer, but i guess I'll post another recent dream of mine, the Greubel Forsey Double Balancer released at this years SIHH.
I had no clue there were Orvins that looked so tasteful. Here's mine.
What watch is CIA wearing? It looks like a big watch (for you) on a NATO but I can't quite tell the dial. Any guesses?
I do like how they put it on a NATO though, BRAVO NOLAN
>posted Alaska project
Looking to get filtered?
Why do you even make this thread if you're gonna post the same shit over and over again
At least the desktop thread faggots pick new waifus from time to time
The only watches under glass at walmart are the g-shocks
thats funny i found an automatic openheart at mine for like $150, forget the brand, but was like literally the only non-quartz.
>tfw i thought i could get decent bands at walmart
lol i was mistaken
But there are decent bands at walmart. Well you get what you pay for on some of them.. Most are indeed shit though.
Pic must be from some third-world corner of the states.
Most don't have this afaik.
Please tell me this is bait, if not...
The study and practice of horology has been around 500 years, whilst electricity was first discovered and used 300 after. Watches are a big technological advancement and just because some don't require electricity doesn't mean they aren't as technologically advanced. So if any thread deserves to be on /g/, its /wt/. Now fuck off.
Why dont you wear your Seiko which has been samurai sword polished while you practice with your samurai sword? Are you not a real senpai?
I've got a Ray. It's pretty good, certainly not great. Bezel is very average, bracelt is above average for the price point but has exceedingly average end links, lume is pretty good, dial and printing is great, overall worth the money, can't expect much more for the price point, even has an in house movement
Jesus anon...is-is that blood? the fuck you get up to with that samurai sword...senpai will not be happy with the washing.
Except I've added three vintage Seikos to these threads in just the last few weeks.
1971 Seiko LM Special 5206-6060
1967 Seikomatic-P 5106-8010
And the very last King Seiko automatic before Seiko went all quartz at the high end, the 1975 King Seiko Special 5256-8010.
Oh, and it runs +0 - +5 s/d in 6 positions and 0.0ms - 0.2ms in 6 positions.
Oh but i'm still waiting for mine.Should arrive in thursday or next sunday.
I'm thinking of what strap should i get for it. Either a nice perlon or a brown leather nato?
Love that King seiko, was looking into getting one but it seems like a bit of a hassle
eBay sellers are swindlers, this, in combination of loosing auctions I just over paid by about $15 for a king Quartz just to stop the fucking hassle. Where is a good source for them or do you just have to lurk auctions really hard?
Applicable to you as well m8
Thanks for the input anons, think i may get the Mako with blue dial. Either one i was going to get was gonna be in blue, but i think i like the numbers a little more. I've heard They're coming out with a new model without the pusher for the date but i kinda like the pusher. It's an interesting design choice that kinda go's away from the ordinary.
Does anyone have any experience replacing watch crystals? Would it be feasible to install a domed acrylic crystal in my SNZG15, and if so, what tools would I need? I have a case press and screwdrivers and stuff.
Thanks. It is one of the two vintage Seikos I wanted the most, and it is one of the rarest, I just happened to luck out and find one in decent shape for a good price.
I'm still looking for a KS 4502 or GS 4522 for the historical importance of the Daini produced 45xx 36,000 bph handwinding caliber being the one that BTFO the Swiss and caused the cancellation of Swiss Chronometer trials.
As for where to look: Yahoo! Japan Auctions. There is more risk of getting a watch not as described (or rather poorly translated) but the prices are WAY better. I got your 52KS for $120 USD + shipping.
It's bretty good. I had one minor issue which was a stuttering chronograph seconds hand, but the seller on WUS sorted it out very quickly for me. The ST-19 movement is a Chinese version of the Venus 175 movement, so if the QC is decent it'll be as accurate and reliable as an old Swiss watch.
My Seiko sarb065 came and my Hirsch Modena honey brown leather strap just turned up too. You madnjelly? Pics incoming when I cba to switch straps
Yeah i might be getting 2 perlons for 2 watches from one of these italian sellers. Just in case i dislike how the bracelet looks.
Yahoojapan if you're willing to take a bet. Buyee is another option.
Basically what ever way to get them directly from japan, or semi-directly like me.
I got my LM from a lovely Aussie
Also i got a nice little 6139 on my watchlist, needs a little service and cleanup but otherwise a solid and unusual piece, anybody interested?
>Not a Hirch Rivetta
Mondaine special edition. Never liked it after buying but its growing on me.
Likewise. But it was my first automatic. Cheap on the whole and probably a collectors item in the future.
>implying there is one
Movement of my fav. Nomos Tangente
>on a Cocktail Time
Why is this allowed?
Is the seiko Brightz worth it? Whats my options for a dress watch under 1000?
Thanks anon, am looking for a reliable place to get the 1963, i know hked is reliable but i was unsure if he still distributes the Sea Gull. It's either hked or i checkout LoneIslandWatches. Any other distributor sources would be useful.
It's worth it, I just hate the AUTOMATIC font being the exact same as the one here on 4Chan
Aside from that sapphire, good movement, nice bracelet, actually made in Japan etc.
For a dress watch under 1000 freedom dollars I recommend:
A used and serviced Glashutte GUB (Commie Glashutte Original, you're getting 80% the value of a 7.5K watch for a couple hundred bucks) get it on ebay
Used Nomos get it on watchrecon, you're probably wishing for luck here but might find a used Tangente for 1000 or a bit more
If you can get on the waitlist then at the end of your budget is the Maison Celadon Imperial at 970 buckaroos
If you can't do that try and find the Beijing Watch Factory Everest for about 300
There is also the Orient Bambino for 150 bucks it's quite basic but a great value even if it is a meme
If youre lazy as shit just get an eBay Soviet Raketa or Poljot or a Seagull/Tisell Nomos ripoff called the Rodina (the latter is also a huge meme for poorfags who are le classy gentlemen on WUS)
Problem is 1K is kind of a bad range especially for dress watches. I listed some examples but these plus higher end mid range Seiko are basically it. You're too low to get anything Swiss or German of any note, but much higher than your lower end Soviet surplus, Orient, or Chinese knock offs. Until recently we thought Stowa was a good deal, then found out their cases and a bunch of other key parts are Chinese but they're still charging you Damasko or Sinn level prices
Honestly if I were you I'd get a new Sinn 556 from Watchbuys shipped free for about 1050. Not quite dress and above your budget but superb value, and actually made in Germany with a nice decorated Sellita 2824 knockoff
Thye looked OLD
Too simple, casual watch
Really dislike chinese watches, racist I know
The Bambino is on my list, just can't find the one I want in stock, but also its a little 2 big 4 for me (21mm strap, almost 42 case, no bracelet)
I get what youre saying, the 1k range is bad I guess. I had the Sarb 065, but it was too overpriced for what it was, but the AUTOMATIC is just slightly more expensive and it looks reallly good.
Thats not a dress watch, cool though
Thanks for your reply m8 appreciate it
>Wanting a dirty watch
No but srs soviet watches are just as bad as chinese seagull cheapos. No point in buying shit that don't last for certain
I'm not a watchfag but that pic has a shit watch omfg, there is no face, so that fucking trench is going to fill up with shit, and some idiots pay for crap design like that.
>inb4 you only wear it in the vacuum of space
It's for blind people, you're supposed to be able to touch it to feel where the balls are to tell what time it is. It's shit though and its looks can only be appreciated by a blind person, but can you really expect any better from a tripfag?
>I'm not a watchfag but
I'm not here to spoonfeed horology to shit heads.
such butthurt, I think this watchfag owns the ball bearing bahaha
>It's for blind people
oh I see
that seems kind of a gimick since blind people have those talking watches though.
You come across as a huge dick in these posts and for no reason
>It's Chinese therefore it's bad
Hint: there's Chinese parts in a Seiko Bright, as there is in everything that isn't basically 100% in house like a Damasko DK range or, in fact, Soviet and East German watches
This is a shit argument. Soviet movements are built on 1950s and 60s robust Swiss machines and the designs are often what was best for the period. More importantly they're easy and cheap to service and maintain and accurate. And don't have any chinkshit, dank memes aside Soviet workers were skilled and often good at their jobs especially in the technical trades.
Also your criticism of Glashutte GUB is as unmerited as it is ignorant
>Oi vey it looks old
This is a shit argument.
>it's crap I know it is
What are you basing this off of? East Bloc chronos were built on Swiss machines as well and because they were military issue were of higher quality by necessity
In addition Glashutte movements were for the haves in GDR society and so had the best solutions to supply problems in the entire bloc. Glashutte Original to this day are being Swatch Jews and charging you 8500 shekels for upgraded GDR movements with rhodium plating and decoration
Pic related the calibre VEB 11-26 in my spezichron is a superb movement. It's only major shortcoming was it was made with a plastic date changing wheel which the watchmaker who worked on this had to replace with a lathed brass one. Still only ran me about 300 USD total. And just for reference: the movements derived from this by the Swatch GO today go for about 7K in the senator 60S lines. Ridiculous.
Just Becuse you'll have to hunt for quality doesn't mean it isn't there
But as with many posts it was the usual affair: "Hi /wt/ I'm going to buy this watch. Unless someone shows me the exact same watch but better and for cheaper I'm going to buy it, and no other options don't count"
Snapchat memes 1 and 2 reporting live from the Daytona Speedway infield
I told you Im racist agaisnt the chinese since I've never had any product out of china that was quality, same applies to russkies.
Also there is a difference who assembles it, in china has no QC but Seiko won't tolerate that so they have some QC at least.
And no I don't want vintage, wtf is wrong with that?
I think YOU'RE being a dick here too.
It's because you don't actually want peoples opinion. You may as well have posted "I'm buying this Brightz" and be done with it
You don't want vintage? Ok. You didn't post it you just went with the lol Russian stuff is bad xDDDD meme
Same with Chinese stuff. The assertion
>lol bad QC
Means you didn't even spend 30 seconds to google Maison Celadon and find out that, yes, in fact there are manufacturers with high levels of QC and good engineering
You're NO U response is childish or b8. But it turns out money can't buy taste
Holy shit, I didn't even know people can get this rustled on /g/. Maison is a different story, but it's an unproven brand still so nobody should vouch for it YET.
And russians are russians, I know enough russkies to stay the fuck away from any of their creations.
>lol russians are bad meme and their stuff is bad lol
ebin my friend simply ebin
>Maison is unproven
>/g/ posters with them
>well regarded on every blog and review site
Somebody didn't use google for more than the 5 recommended seconds this time :^)
There he is. There he goes again. Look, everyone! He posted it once again! Isn't he just the funniest guy around?! Oh my God.
I can almost see your pathetic overweight frame glowing in the dark, lit by your computer screen which is the only source of light in your room, giggling little a like girl as you once again type your mfw waiting for watch reply up and fill in the captcha. Or maybe you don't even fill in the captcha. Maybe you're such a disgusting NEET that you actually paid for a 4chan pass, so you just choose the picture. Oh, and we all know the picture. The "epic" happy Akari, isn't it? I imagine you little shit laughing so hard as you click it that you drop your Doritos on the floor, but it's ok, your mother will clean it up in the morning. Oh, that's right. Did I fail to mention? You live with your mother. You are a fat fucking fuckup, she's probably so sick of you already. So sick of having to do everything for you all goddamn day, every day, for a grown man who spends all his time on 4chan posting about waiting for his watch. Just imagine this. She had you, and then she thought you were gonna be a scientist or an astronaut or something grand, and then you became a NEET. A pathetic Akari posting NEET. She probably cries herself to sleep everyday thinking about how bad it is and how she wishes she could just disappear. She can't even try to talk with you because all you say is ">mfw waiting for my new watch in the mail" You've become a parody of your own self. And that's all you are. A sad little man laughing in the dark by himself as he prepares to indulge in the same old post that he's done a million times now. And that's all you'll ever be.
>Oh man Omega is so trustworthy! After all it's been around all these years! I'll be a good goy and buy a Speedy Pro, it's not like th Mountain Jews will ever rip me off
>FUCKING UNORIGINAL CHINKSHIT, FUCK Maison Celadon, Only 3 years old=no heritage, obvious shit lol
This is you
Just got my dads old watch, and it looks amazing. Don't know much about it though, what do y'all think?
Sour grapes much? Its just based on pure rational thinking, I have nothing against them, but it is a fact they have only been around for 3 yrs, which pretty much a watches warranty time. That can't show how reliable they are as a brand.
But you still can get your 40yr old Omega serviced by Omega
so shut the fuck up kid
Step aside plebs.
I keep hearing that the SKX line is being discontinued but there hasn't been a valid source yet. Thoughts, /wt/?
Please don't buy a Brightz, as I own one and I don't want the watch's image to be tainted by your unmitigated horological plebbery.
Please fuck off to >>>/fa/ where your mindless brand consumerism and horological ignorance belong.
Actually I think people should read the /fa/ threads more
They aren't as concerned with tech but they hate plebs and fashion watches as much as we do, and most of.their consistent posters have nice watches. The /g/ guides are highly regarded and often used there as a starter
They are slow and have more plebs though
Regardless this faggot needs to get back to WUS where he belongs
world's most exclusive watches. are they good?
Today there was an instructor who is a licensed servicer of a lot of swiss-shit manufacturers, mostly Swatch Group. He redpilled us about the stuff we already knew here on /wt/, on how Swatch and the rest of the Swiss are assholes, but one thing he said I'd like to share to piss off our resident Omega fanboys:
The Co-Axial escapement if fucking dogshit. The concept is one and a half centuries old, Daniels only modified it from modern wristwatches. It was called the Fasoldt escapement, originally meant for pocket watches. It was good because it eliminated sliding friction of the pallet stones, so they needed no lubricant. On the other hand Omega had to rewrite the internal service manuals like monthly for a while before they figured out the EXACT amount of oil where this piece of shit would actually work. Right now it needs a microscopic amount of oil on the locking jewels for "cushioning", a tiny bit more and it stop working reliably, a tiny bit less and the escapement wheel gets destroyed over time.
So with all this "precision" Omega watches will stop and fucking die in five years if left unserviced (quite the improvement from old watches that last many years on gummy oil if you're a horlogerie hebrew wanting to get rich off servicing). Not that they wouldn't die anyway, why do you think replacement of certain parts is MANDATORY every time for every watch Omega and other high-end Swatch brands service. They just swap out the time bomb parts with fresh time bomb parts.
TL;DR: get only pre-Swatch vintage if you want Omega. Or just go full Jap/Slav and reject the alpine merchant completely.
There's this guy at work, every morning I see him with a watch in his hand, a big clock on his monitor, making sure his watch is accurate within a second, sometimes redoing several times it until he's satisfied. And the best part is, except for when he's looking at the time, his watch is always covered by his sleeve so nobody can see whatever fancy watch he's wearing that day anyway.
Are all watch people this autistic or is he just a special case?
>not original datograph that isn't übergroßen or some impressively complicated version of the newer one
Some are, some aren't. What you posted is completely unrelated though.
How's your day, /wt/?
>Lose my watch travelling
>Buy cheap Casio when I get home to tide me over
>That was 6 months ago
Kinda like it now desu. No h8
Enjoy your watch in good health, Allah and his messenger Mohammed (PBUH) willing
casio respects my money by telling me the time without all the ricing bullshit that other companies have
>living on that calculator terrorist watch even though i've never had to use the calculator
Right now using a Garmin Vivofit, would a spot smart watch that automatically syncs be a good upgrade? Or should I get a normal (Non-smart) ~$50-$100 watch and buy another activity tracker of sorts?
Just came back, and also kek.
Jewmega has entered into maximum shekel collecting mode.
Gotta wonder though, what's going to happen when ETA cuts the supply of movements off?
What's to hate? That'll last you years if you don't trash it on purpose.
It was planned obsolescence. Let's not be stupid; servicing is a huge cash cow for Swatch and Richest
Omega is owned by Swatch so they'll continue shekeling niggers, sheiks, and Communist Party of China bigwigs no problem. As for the rest of the industry, they'll buy from Sellita. Those who can't will die.
And of course most dogshit will transition to to Miyota family.
>And of course most dogshit will transition to to Miyota family.
Microbrands running on Vostok 2416B when?
>It was planned obsolescence. Let's not be stupid; servicing is a huge cash cow for Swatch and Richest
The new scam done by Breitling I think is that they ask more for service because they ship the watch all the way to regional service centers instead of local certified watchmakers.
Seems the industry-wide alpine kike plan is to cut out all the middlemen so nobody gets a cut of those delicious shekels, all profit goes to the top. They remind me of the fucking mob desu.
>tfw when i can do a diy-tier disassembly and cleaning of the 2416B at home.
>tfw when it's only real weakness is the lack of quickset
>tfw when people will buy Russian movements in Russian cases marked as Swiss made again
Going to be some funny shit.
I remember when vising my old HS to get some documents, i saw a young kid nearly getting KO'd in the eye after connecting the capacitor upside down.
Burned his eyebrow out and has permanent scar.
I read somewhere that the electric signal for the speaker detonates the bomb. From the 9V battery it looks like the speaker signal only acts as a switch for a transistor since you need the kind of juice of a 9V battery to electrically detonate the explosives.
Then again I'm dumb when it comes to electronic circuits.
This sort of happened before. Cornavin was a Swiss brand that was kinda popular in the Eastern-Bloc for some reason. So when they tanked the Soviets bought the name and started making all-commie Cornavins in the USSR for communist export. I believe most were just rebranded Poljots and Slavas, but they didn't even mark any country of origin on the dial. Pic related, an unmarked Soviet Cornavin.
I'm lucky enough to have two original Swiss Cornavins (family hand me downs), both have the 1950's Arogno 151 movement with subdial seconds.
Laco is a bad example as they've been on Miyota for.their low end models for years. It's just they're focusing on more low to mid range models with Miyota than on their Swiss movement models. Which is funny because Laco while not a good value for money (their basic Swiss models cost as much as a basic Sinn or Damasko) they are at least made in German cases unlike the WUS circlejerk Stowa
Still there will be a LOT more companies going to the Miyota 9015
Many "Swiss" companies will die but some will persevere. The other smart dogshit companies will realize there is a market for "made in X" so they'll have "made in Italy" or "made in USA" watches cased in the home country on the dial from Chinese parts and Miyota movements
>microbrands on Vostok
Actually it's not a bad thing. It keeps costs low and also means that Vostok the company which is actually honest keeps running. Moreover bullshit brands making use of the movement will only bring those good movements down
Now if some reputable brands wanted to use thwm no problem. Issue is right now it would be the same Chinese cases
>The Mountain Jews are like the mob
They hate the idea of the local watchmaker doing things at decent prices. They hate anyone but themselves having 100% of the cash and control. And their biggest new demographics of richfags without taste don't give a shit about the cost, which brings them more cash
Someone ob WUS (who got yelled down) expressed this in a grrat way: buy most watches then enjoy, it's yours. Buy a Swiss? You should he honoured, it's really the company's and you're just paying rent for the honour
I hope to God this doesn't happen because then actual vostoks won't be sub 100 freedom dollars as WIS flood the market
The actual movements though were made like most socialist products were: It's useless if the end user can't tinker with or fix it because muh shortages
The 9V only charges the capacitors. You need a lot of current/voltage to detonate which you can't get from a battery alone. The transistor is switched by the watch's alarm tweeter signal.
What's the quickest way to learn about watches /wt/? Things such as knowing what makes are the best and reliable, know what movements are good and knowing what various models of watch are good.
Among the things.
But i was referring to the company which imported transitional Vostok watches (Post soviet, pre "made in Russia") to europe and mainly Switzerland and marked them with a small icon of their company on the dial. And charged a hefty sum on them.
IMO i think the original Soviet Corvains are fine, mostly were Poljots and some Slavas,a few Raketas and Vostoks.
You're right, they'll go with the Shinloa approach. Though in some cases (Like Stowa for example) it won't necessarily work well, some people will be able to call out the bullshit.
And so far the only ones that used or still using Vostok movements are Vostok-europe, which is a rather respectable micro-brand. And i doubt the price of the Amphibia will rise, hell if they implement the economical reforms (1 ruble will be worth about 1 USD, and the exchange rate will be fixed) the price might even drop.
Aka more cheap Vostoks for us, unless the Neptune SE is going to be relaunched i might get another one with a 059 dial.
Also just tested out my Dirskie's accuracy while being fully wound up, -0.1sec deviation in 24 hours.
I've been reading up on the co-axial and had read that generally people have come to the conclusion that it provides, in the end, no practical benefits compared to the typical swiss lever variants.
I'm assuming you're at a watchmaking school?
Did this instructor say anything about any other brands?
Did they voice any opinions on anything else?
Please give us the juicy details!
>Gotta wonder though, what's going to happen when ETA cuts the supply of movements off?
Brands have already begun supplementing their lines with sellita movements.
You'll typically see "ETA 28__ OR Sellita SW___".
So it's a fucking lucky dip! :^)
There's that other company, Soprod, but I've not heard anything about them in a long time.
The Director of Blancpain (I think) back in the early 90's/late 80's said that every watch brand that didn't have it's own movement maker was going to be in trouble in the next twenty years.
He was mostly right, but few heeded his warning.
We know, or we're just bullshiting and shitposting.
But that should tell you enough: what needs further investigation, and what you may safely disregard.
What do you want to know?
I mostly want to know which brands of watch are the safest and most reliable, I've lurked for some time and I've learned that seiko are generally good along with vostoks. And I've also learned not to feed the mountainjew, thats pretty much it desu.
A lot of the people have awful taste and get fashion dogshit, and others are total plebs who only care about buying recognizable watch brands to impress others because /fa/ is full of insecure shallow losers. /g/ watch threads are much more likely to have an interesting discussion or some good information.
W-what's wrong with resetting my watch on a daily basis
Have you ever been in /fa/? The amount of cringe, cancer and keks on that board is too much for me, i tried it a couple of times.
Plus also as >>52706955 said, but there are a lot of anons there with neat watches. They also callout plebs quite regularly.
Outdated one, but still useful.
It's mostly alright, though the Swiss are in a jewery recycling mode right now. They are switching from ETA to whatever the fuck they can find movements.
The usual stuff really, basically that the Swiss are assholes for having a "high end"-brand watch having the same unmodified ETA movement as a "midrange" brand while costing way more. Also how MUH HERITAGE AND EXPERIENCE for high-end brands mean semi-trained laborers who just got good at doing one thing since they've been doing in 8 hours a day, 5 day a week for years, and mass-production robotics up the ass for anything that requires precision.
Sadly very rare Cosmonavigator, made by the sketchy touristy company that makes the Spetsnaz brand watches, but it does use a Vostok 24 hour movement.
Designed by that cosmonaut you see, the minute hand points to the bezel, which tells you which continent by color the space station of your choosing (such as the ISS) is currently flying over. Every 90 minutes it makes an orbit, but as the Earth spins the path shifts to the left on the map each time.
>I mostly want to know which brands of watch are the safest and most reliable
Pretty much anything churned out by a reputable brand (with some exceptions, either way) is going to be 'reliable'.
The only watches that I can think of that aren't reliable are fake luxury chinkshit tourists buy on holiday in the 3rd world that are crudely and badly assembled from substandard parts and fall apart in short order.
What do you mean by safe brands?
I'll say that the lower end Jap stuff from Seiko, Orient and Citizen are going to be fine, and Vostok too I suppose but that's not from personal experience.
But they're not particularly costly in the grand scheme of things and they are generally what they say they are and that's reflected in the relative pricing (the >$300 kinds). You probably don't stand to lose much if they spontaneously die on you - that's subject to your specific economic circumstance of course.
>And I've also learned not to feed the mountainjew
The mountaindew is trixy. The brands worth mentioning aren't playing in the lower tiers and though there are still some admirable makers amongst them these watches are "luxury watches", which are, at the end of the day, a rip off as all you need to tell the time is an osama casio or your phone.
But sometimes you just want this or that thing.
It's mindless consumerism and magpie-like collector's fautism.
Maybe you're interested in more interesting mechanisms?
Maybe the history?
In this case, funds permitting, you want to feed the jew, be they mountain or oriental.
The trick is knowing which jews are the least jewish, and in what ways.
If you want to enter this superfluous world I'm happy to shitpost about them for a bit if you have any specific queries.
I'm wired up on coffee and too scared to sleep right now anyway so I'm all set to spew forth some badly remembered anecdotes and share the fruits of half arsed research collected over a long while.
I just know that it works for stations with a 51 degree flight path, which I'm sure the corrections are trying to adhere to. Maybe eventually the orbit would be in between these lines but it's still a rough estimate and nothing critical.
komandirkie and fake g shock on the way, looking to get something else in the extreme poorfag chink range that’s analog quartz but don't think I want another casio at the moment (or timex).
Current ISS position for comparison, you see it corresponds to paths 4, 5, and then 6.
Funny story, I actually got one of these as my first watch for convenience sake and because it fit my autistic image very well. Then I lost it while traveling and realized that I actually like watches, which brought me here.
too bad they really aren't that well built
my f91w:s lugs died within months when I started wearing it on different NATOs sort of often. yeah maybe it was stupid, but since the bars aren't regular spring bars but just pins, the plastic holding them in their place wears out really fast if you keep switching straps
a shame really
though good thing that it made me buy a g-shock dw-5600, I love the countdown timer
Forgot to add, by myself saying safe brands, i mean the brands that dont fuck you over by charging $100+ for a watch and putting a shit tier, mass produced chink movement inside that either doesn't keep the time well or simply doesn't last a year.
Yeh I've looked at these, there have been nearly mint condition watches like this on ebay recently for cheap. However the new dial/hands look a lot nicer to me and also I've heard that the new precisionist movements are accurate to +/-10s a year which seems pretty sweet for their price.
seiko marinemaster spring drive then, $2682 on seiya, or another diver model with spring drive
Sorry guys just back from killing something unholy, with far too many fucking legs, in the bathroom.
I fucking knew tonight would be the night.
Anyway, someone usually (prematurely) starts a new thread about now.
I'll post some random shit then. Until then I'm going to try and wipe the memory of the past 40mins from my mind.
Obligatory Submariner post. I literally cannot find a single flaw with this design. Timeless, especially with stainless steel or a nice NATO strap.
Why does Rolex dominate so hard around their price point? Fuck me, this is a sexy watch.
>I literally cannot find a single flaw with this design.
Then you have never seen a no-date sub.
The things with (more than) 100 weggies.
I can't even say their name lest it invoke the image in my mind's eye.
Pretty much everyone's scared to death of them around here because no one wants to be in pain for several days straight at point of contact.
>not just removing the cyclops from a Sub Date
Halios delfin seems like a pretty cool watch for $650. Canadian company so you'll pay less if you have USDs. The only thing is the movement is fairly cheap and isn't usually found in expensive watches but it's nonetheless a good movement.
Sleeping at Alpha bro's dorm
/wt/ bro sleepover at Embry riddle
>removing the cyclops from the rolex
/wt/, is this ever acceptable?
>russkies putin cyka lolollol!!1!11
You're a tremendous faggot, russian, and especially soviet, made things have extreme quality and are/were made to last a lifetime. Vostok is a very good brand that offers mechanicals at pretty much unseen prices for their quality, sure the bezels and bracelets are shit, but they can be changed easily, while the movement and design is unique and high quality
Also "chinese shit" like Maison Celadon and even Obris Morgan is more sought after than shit from swatch with bloated and shady prices, fake "swiss made" and other bullshit, those brands also offer unique designs not found anywhere else
Tbh they should either kill it or upgrade it, the movement really kills the whole watch, I like the design, but I'd never buy one with that movement, I know it's reliable and shit, but it just lacks all the complications
Can't wait for the new Seikos to fully launch and drop in prices
Only 500 usd. Looks nice.
Is the moonphase accurate?
