Gonna ask again since new thread:

I really want to get stereo mix working on my computer, so I can record my audio output.
I've tried all the usual (right click show hidden and disabled devices yadda yadda), and google can literally not help past that. It seems like it's a motherboard thing from some others with same "problem". My motherboard is an MSI Z87 MPOWER.

I don't really know anything about sound drivers and stuff, but here's a screenshot of my devices if that tells you anything. I'm not sure what is what though.

Should I try manually installing some new drivers, and if so, for which devices? What controls the stereo mix?

I need some help, I was wondering if anyone here has any idea about tablets in here.

So I want to buy a tablet with win10, to handle movies/netflix, youtube, eclipse (when i'm not on my main computer,such as on the train or buss), and handle games like banished, and other games like that which is like building a society (roller coaster type games) or building a park, just to handle games like that.

Anyone can give me a few tips on what I should be looking at ? (Nothing to expensive please)

I do too. The problem is that I can't select the stereo mix as a recording device. It's just not there.

I'm learning Java. Currently trying to learn the difference between == and equals(). So I wrote this code

public class Test {
static String x = "blue";
static String y = "blue";

public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println(x == y);
System.out.println(x.equals(y));
}

And it returns "true true". Shouldn't it be "false true"?

>>52692565
Yes you can (assuming it's the same as webm for bakas)

Just force it to have a specific upper filesize limit. 3mb is the default for most boards on 4chan, so set it to that. It shouldn't go that high, but it will maximize the quality.

I found a way after tinkering with audacity, but it only works cause I have a Saffire 6 USB audio interface that goes both ways, so it allows me to record its output.

>>
>>52692662

>>52692712
The content of the string ("blue") is the same in both cases, but shouldn't == be comparing the references contained in each variable (which should be different, since x and y refer to separate instances)?
>>

Yes and it doesn't allow you to proceed. It's mandatory.
>>
Should you make a separate git repository for each os version of your software or use separate branches? Also, how can you delete a branch that's identical to your master branch?
>>
>>52692593
enter your phone number but change the last 4-6 digits. That's the part they change from person to person and yahoo would need a perfect up to date list of all phone number in circulation to verify if they are real or not
>>
>>52692712
Actually, I kind of figured it out. If I declare the strings by saying

static String x = new String("blue");
static String y = new String("blue");

Then x == y yields false and x.equals(y) yields true. But if I declare them as

static String x = "blue";
static String y = "blue";

both x == y and x.equals(y) return true. Weird.
>>
>>52692778
No, '==' does not compare pointers/references in any half sane language. As far as I see, both are equivalent. Never written java though so I don't know how it handles pointers.
>>
>>52692885
>each os version of your software
What do you mean by that? If you mean version specific to an OS, that should be an option at compile time. You still want non-OS specific changes to be applied to all versions equally without having to copy and paste them into different branches or repositories.
>>
>>52692907

>>
Is there a way to discover what non-letter/number characters can be posted on 4chan? Like the ones from miscellaneous symbols
>>
>>52692900
Think about it like this

Why assign two values in memory to "blue" when you could just have one "blue" that multiple variables are pointing to?

It sounds stupid because different things might be happening to the variable, but that is why you need to create them as two separate things and not just declare that the variables point to a string
>>
>>52692948

I don't know of any symbols that 4chan doesn't support tough

>>
>>52692946
I found the answer somewhere else. Apparently when you declare a String literal (static String x = "blue";), the JVM searches the String pool to see if that String already exists, and if it does, it assigns the same reference to the new String you're creating (i.e., when I declare static String y = "blue"; after having already declared x). When you use the "new String()" method, though, it always creates a new instance of the String, even if it already exists in the String pool.

I just did a clean install of Win 10 on my desktop, and the internet is intermittently slow. Sometimes it'll work, other times it's either slow as fuck or just results in timeout errors

I cannot fathom what the fuck is up. I made sure I installed the latest ethernet drivers, so I don't think there's a problem there. My MBP works fine. I adjusted the DNS settings on my MBP to Google's DNS servers, would that be causing any problems? I can't imagine it would but I'm getting desperate

I need some help from someone who knows the ins and outs of Excel.
I currently have a list of 600ish URL’s that I need changed to a different format, it’s the same template for the URL I need, and all I need to do is plug parts of the URL into certain parts of the URL I need. That sounds confusing as fuck and I’m defiantly confusing myself here, but -

Example of the URL I currently have - http://www.bcfakes.com/celebritylist/zooey-deschanel/
What I need to convert them all to - http://www.bcfakes.com/gallery/zooey-deschanel/www-bcfakes-com_deschanel_001.jpg
If you take the beginning - http://www.bcfakes.com/gallery/CELEB-NAME/www-bcfakes-com_CELEBNAME (after first -)_001
Is there a macro/script out there that can help, I don’t mind if I have to tinker with it, I just need a starting point if it’s even possible.

If needed, I can upload the excel spreadsheet of the current list of URL's.

do some pings, see if you get dropped packets. test on all your machines with the same settings, so same DNS and everything. DNS resolves domain names, it usually wouldn't slow down your connection. and if your connection if slow on one computer but fast on another also using wifi, with the same settings on the same site, then yeah it's probably that machine, possibly the NIC dying. if you know it's your machine try ethernet and see if it's still slow, or try booting from a linux flash drive and test speed there. basically narrow it down to if it's the wifi card or the OS, if it's only that laptop at all.
>>
>>52694599
you need to fill them, infact I don't think it will the 6-pin will fit properly into the 8. adapters for molex are cheap if your PSU doesn't have the right pins.

Got an FX 8320E processor (on a budget or I would've gotten the one without the E). How do I go about picking a GPU that won't bottleneck it? Folks elsewhere mentioned the R9 380 but it isn't at the Micro Center near me. Considering the GeForce GTX 950. Build's not complete yet. Still need to get the PSU, case, and storage devices.

what is the most efficient amount of time you should spend programming when you're starting out? Right now I follow the Pomodoro method which is 25 minutes of programming followed by a 5 minute break -- then keep repeating that process for 4-5 hours. Is that too little of a window to "absorb" the programming knowledge? Is it better to program for longer periods of time?
>>
>>52694947
The ones that are in the here and now? Because I don't intend on getting Fallout 4 and the like for a long while yet. Most likely Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Hyperdimension Neptunia.

>Most likely Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Hyperdimension Neptunia.
Just get a 1/2TB HDD and only put loading sims like Bethesda games on it.
By that rate it's gonna fill up quick, and you should never completely fill a drive up.
>>
>>52694981
maybe those 3 and another one if you pick wisely
>>
>>52694963
i think it's better to take a more organic approach, but you should be simply programming as much as you possibly can. if you get tired of actually programming, read a book, article, wikipedia page, whatever on programming, talk with other people who program, etc. then start programming again.

i personally would have a very hard time doing 25 on 5 off -- it can be difficult for me to keep a coherent line of thought rolling if i'm interrupting myself so often. i think it's far more important to foster an actual interest in the act of programming. once you are sincerely enjoying what you are doing, it becomes far more natural (and sustainable) than trying to rigidly adhere to someone else's "method."

regardless, if you're getting in 4-5 hours of pure programming in a day, that's great, and you'll inevitably see big increases as long as you are intelligently applying yourself to learning new concepts.

I have a question, how do USB malware works?

Its just a simple direct access file that tries to fool the user/owner to open it by moving all the files in the USB to a hidden folder and the access direct changes the registry trough run32dll.
And yet this is able to install malware in a pc (Troyans/worm/etc).

How does it works?

you might read this: http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/wget.htm

then you could go into your command prompt and use something like "wget www.yourfileurl.com" and use different options within the wget feature like -r for recursive downloads and -R to restrict certain types of files. The beauty of using wget as opposed to just downloading it directly from the website is that it will download as long as the computer is turned on. Again, you'll have to read that link because I'm not sure how to use it on windows.

Oh so that is how.

I wonder why this is still a problem this days with windows.
Also that if you copy/paste a command to cmd it wont work, you have to write it manually.

I'm having an issue with "choppy" video in Windows 10. For instance, if I use middle click to scroll slowly, the motion chops about once a second. Same for GTAV. A a 1080p monitor, a 1024x768 monitor (which runs at 75Hz), and my TV which is mirrored to the first monitor. >>52692076

My PC runs 100% fine at all times except for doing this weird thing where if I don't touch any inputs for a minute or two (way before monitor sleep or anything) the video output starts to chug like crazy until it locks up. Sound keeps going sometimes fine, sometimes becomes choppy or stops too. As soon as I press a key or move my mouse everything works fine again. The weirdest part is when I "wake" it from this state, it speeds through most of the frames it missed like it's catching up to where it actually is. Obviously this is more obvious when trying to watch a film or youtube or something, but I'm 100% sure it happens no matter what, you just can't see it happen when there are just static windows on the screen because the video output isnt changing.

It's like it's timing out or idling or something and going into a low power mode or spending crazy amounts of CPU on something when it thinks it isn't being used. Been doing it since last fresh install, so I don't think it's a virus. Controllers don't count as input that will fix the issue, so if it happens while playing a game with a controller I get the crazy lag and then when I touch the keyboard or mouse it catches back up. It's as if the program keeps running fine but just what I'm seeing (and sometimes hearing) starts lagging behind and getting choppy. I think it's some sort of background process, I thought for a bit it was "System and compressed memory" but really unsure. One guaranteed fix is to just have Task Manager or Resource Monitor (haven't tested with just Resource Monitor by itself) open in the background, which stops it from happening every time I leave it open, but this is annoying and also doesn't allow me to troubleshoot it because I can't see my processes and have the issue occur at the same time.

Anyone have any idea what the hell this is or what could be causing it?

I was thinking about using my old Desktop-pc again for everyday use and install Linux on my laptop. But I think the Mainboard is dead, since it won't power on anymore. No sign of life, no fans starting, not even the PSU fan starting. But through connecting the pins of the 24-pin connector I can make the PSU work, so I'm guessing it's the Board.
Now I wonder, whether to spend some bucks on a LGA775 MoBo (maybe buying used stuff from ebay?) + a graphics card.
The other option would be to buy a new Build for about 500€ (i3 6100, 16gb ram, gtx 750, 128gb SSD). But I don't know whether that is overkill.
90% of the time I use my laptop to shitpost, watch netflix or porn. Rest is gaymen but mostly older stuff like Stalker or CS:GO.

Old Parts are:
>Intel C2Duo Q8200
>2x 2gb DDR2 Ram @667MHz CL4
>2x Western Digital WD6400AAKS 640gb 7200rpm
>PSU 500W
>PCI wlan card that I'd like to use
>MoBo is pic related

What's your opinion? Buy LGA775 MoBo + suitable graphics card or fuck the old shit and start a new era?

The fans controllers can be used to change fan speeds on the fly without having to enter the BIOS, also most motherboards do come with a USB 3.0 power outlet, although these are only used for the USB 3.0s on the case itself, so if your case has a 3.0 power cable, it doesn't need to be connected for the system to work.

Whoops. Forgot to add temps, they're at a great 25C while idle and 50C under max load, based noctua fans.

Unigine runs without prime running, but it would immediately shut off when I tried it with a borrowed gtx 670. I normally use a 750ti, which doesn't draw much power, doesn't use any PCI power cables.

Is a share ratio of 2 before torrent removal too much or too little?
>>
>>52700099
Depends
Private tracker? You might want as much as possible.
Public? How many other seeders there are?
>>
>>52700133
Public. Who needs private trackers? lol

Anyway, I just have it set to remove the torrents when share ration is 2, always.
>>
>>52700301
Dude, I was just simply checking use case here.

So, for public I would split into two conditions.
- common entries with hundres of seeds/peers
This is fine for seed ratio 2.
- some less popular where <10 seeds
I'd consider to seed / leave it for later.

But HEY, at least You are seeding. This is already enough from what I would expect.

>>
>>52692458
it's up to the driver, the driver you're using might not provide it
>>
>>52692524
bitrate is too low

two solutions:
- use a higher bitrate
- increase the GOP so there's no new iframes before the next scene change

the reason this happens is because for various (valid) reasons, video codecs have a limit to how many p or b frames are stored before it forces a new i frame
an i frame is a complete frame, p and b are simply the difference from the previous frame(s)

in your video, you start with a high quality i frame, then the point where it goes to shit is when it was forced to make a new i frame, but the bitrate was too low to make a high quality one

Just got paid today, /g/ and I'm looking to build a whole new PC.

Here's the specs:

>NVIDIA 980 Ti GPU
>Intel i7-6700k CPU
>Noctua NH-U14S Fan
>GIGABYTE Z170X-UD5 TH Mobo
>Crucial 288 Pin 16GB DDR4 RAM
>HGST Deskstar NAS 4TB 7200RPM HDD
>Sandisk Extreme Pro 480GB SSD
>Corsair AX860 860W PSU
>SilverStone RV02B-EW Case

Opinions? It's my first time building it myself.

I'm also getting a monitor, will that come with all the cables necessary to run 144Hz? Or do I have to buy a separate cable? The monitor is 144Hz.

third party apps can do whatever though

You don't need an 860w PSU unless you're planning to run multi GPU in the future. Even then, you could probably get a 750w.

>>
>>52701597
>>52701658
Wooo!
>>
>>52701528
not quite

most are 2.5", but there are a few different thicknesses, in most cases there's plenty of space for any type, but nowadays with thin-as-fuck laptops, it's worth double checking if there's enough height to fit the disk you want in

there's also other types of disks (ssd's), which come in msata or m.2 format, there's also several sizes (lengths) of those
>>
>>52701683
As in a wifi dongle? Depends how many things you have connected to the hub. USB 3.0 outputs a max of 900mA current, your wifi dongle is going to use maybe a third, maybe half of that. If you have devices pulling more current than is available they will not work.
>>
>>52701725
I am wanting to put it into an external case. This one seems pretty vague on thickness, which makes me assume that it can fit all types?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0VN-0003-000H1
>>
>>52701863
it says it's 13mm thick, though that'll be external dimentions

the most common thickness is 9.5mm, in general, unless something explicitly says it's not 9.5mm, you can assume it's 9.5mm

in the features section it says "Fit for 2.5-inch SATA hard drive or SSD with thickness from 7mm to 9.5mm", so I am assuming that it will be fine.

>the most common thickness is 9.5mm, in general, unless something explicitly says it's not 9.5mm, you can assume it's 9.5mm

>>
>>52692662
Don't ask /g/
>>
>>52701952
yea, thicker 2.5" hdd only really show up in really old laptops, you're only likely to find something smaller than 9.5 if not 9.5 these days

ehh..no. The newer ones are more secure (good/great-tier), but Vista is OK-tier for security when comparing them to the newer ones.

>>52693431
(What kind is it?)

I'd just salvage what you can out of it. Mobo and GPU are probably dead so I'd take the RAM and HDD out and dump.

Or take the gold out of the electronic parts, then dumb.

you could use a userstyle for all pages which sets a min-width of some pixel value like 1000.

Considering making the switch from Window 7 to Windows 10, but a concern of mine is my torrents. I have 113 torrents I am seeding, and most of them I have renamed the folder to maintain a decent looking library structure. If I copy all of the installed files for deluge to my new installation, will this be preserved, or will I be forced to add each of the torrents again and individually rename them to point them towards the existing files? All of my media is stored on hard drives separate from the OS drive, so the files will stay in the same structure.
