how do you mean?

If you're gonna make a thread, give the specs at least. Also perhaps some details about the price. It costs 9$ in what regions of the world and what quantities do you have to buy ?

" Complementing the 1Ghz processor are 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of flash storage, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, standard and micro USB ports, and a composite AV jack that can output video and audio to many TVs. Like its cousins in the Arduino and Raspberry Pi ecosystems, C.H.I.P. can also be extended with snap-on “shield” modules—specifically ones that output video over VGA and HDMI to expand display options. "
>>
>>52684930
For 9$ id play with it bit. Dont know what id do though
>>
>>52684906
No. All the chinese shit has free shipping or at least it's included in the price. This shit is advertised as "9$ SBC" but you're not getting anything without 15$.

Raspberry Pi zero is much better, you can get 3 for the same price.
>>
>>52684873

I have to say, I like the look of Pocket CHIP. A computer with a keyboard and display in your pocket for < $50 is pretty awesome. Even if it doesn't have that much guts in terms of computing power it's a cool toy at least

I'm sorry but this is a Christian imageboard. Please discuss your satanic computer somewhere else.
>>

Well, you can get used tablet for almost nothing with allwinner CPU and put debian on it. Screen, battery, keyboard(touch) and case included.
>>
>>52685015
Tis but a number.
>>
>>52684857
I ordered one this last christmas.

Faggots said they'll deliver it until june.

Fuck. And I even consider it better than the Pi Zero because is has a built-in charging circuitry
>>
>>52684857
There's a catch, like with everything on kickscammer.
it's $9 + shipping now + shields for ports, but it's going to be $40 later. Which means you funded a overpriced product that's not going anywhere.

By the time you get yours raspi0 is going to be available again, a much better product for less than half the price.

Whats the wifi range on that thing?
>>
>>52684864
this

Also I'd much rather buy the 5$ meme.
>>
>>52685260
>literally no ethernet or wifi
that's easy to add and it's still cheaper than the chip.
>>
>>52684857

This is what it looks like when you stand at the foot of a great exponential curve, reaching asymptotically to the sky.

Personal computers used to cost $10,000. Soon you'll be getting them for free in junk mail, in breakfast cereal. In magazines. They'll be a nuisance, like AOL cd's. Alan Turing and Ada Lovelace wouldn't believe it.

The singularity wont happen all at once. It will happen in fits and starts, it will be "chunky". Ubiquitous computing will be a disruption on the order of what we saw with the internet boom.

And nobody has any idea what this means for us. Dismiss this $9 "meme tech" at your peril.
>>
>>52686137
>have to buy USB hub
>have to buy USB-ethernet or USB wifi
>on top of that probably have to buy a fucking USB-microUSB or whatever the fuck converter
Yeah ok. Enjoy your 20 dollar 3 dollar board.
>>
>>52686160
Just about everyone has an extra out of all of those (as opposed to a c.h.i.p. shield), except for maybe the usb otg adapter that costs $1. You could probably get some free from friends.
Even then, you can get a ethernet adapter for ~$2, usb hub for ~$3 and otg cable for $1, so $11 (cheaper than chip)
>>
>>52686296
>people might have extra shit so it doesn't count toward the cost xd
>>
>>52686303
Just about everyone I know who is interested in computers has an extra wifi dongle and a hub. There's no problem with that argument.

But again, it's still cheaper than the chip if you buy all that stuff.

And you need to buy an expensive shield to have any decent video out on the chip.

>Dismiss this $9 "meme tech" at your peril.
This is just a meme. It acctually costs more than $9 to make and will be sold for $40 after kickscammer.

look at rpi0 if you want to look at actually cheap tech.
>>
Man, I want a high-end ARM board, with PCI-E, SATA, and Firewire!

Is that too much to ask?

Well, I'm not interested in what amounts to original Raspberry Pi horsepower so I'm not gonna bother to look CHIP up. However, at least these guys had some sense of aesthetics and didn't hang any ports off the board.

>$9 gets you a lot on silicon these days

I'm more interested in what I can get at $50, really.
>>
>>52686303
by your logic you should be counting in the cost of the power - because not everyone has that already, oh and the internet usage - add that in - and the physical space, you might want to take that into consideration when you pay your council tax. moron
>>
>>52684857
>What does /b/ thinks about this $9 meme tech?

I, personally, think it's a scam by Allwinner to try and sell off surplus, EOL silicon to fucking rubes in the "Maker" community by hiring a marketing firm out of Washington, who went for the "hipster" theme for their marketing.
>>
>>52687049
>a raspberry pi costs less than a tablet, so everyone should just get a pi and turn it into a tablet
>you might have a spare screen and battery and shit, so that doesn't factor into the cost xddd

Because!

Actually I need some IDE ports too.
>>
>>52687173
When you eat a meal do you factor in the price of the cutlery, or do you just think "I've got it already, why bother?"
>>
>>52687421
Everyone has forks and knives (if they're not britcucks). Not everyone has a bunch of fucking USB converters, USB-ethernet cables, and USB wifi cards laying around. Stop being a fucking autist.
>>
>>52685029
>Well, you can get used tablet for almost nothing with allwinner CPU and put debian on it
Seriously? Are there actually drivers for everything?
>>
>>52684930
I'm betting that 512mb memory is shared with the GPU. You're not going to do much with it graphically. Built-in wifi and bluetooth would make it a pretty cheap way to get some wireless embedded applications done, though.
>>
>>52688599
>I'm betting that 512mb memory is shared with the GPU.

It is. None of these ARM boards have dedicated VRAM.

It's just a 2012/2013 ARM PC board that costs $9 now instead of $35. Whatever you couldn't do with the original Pi, you can't do with this (1080p).
>>
>>52688756
>that costs $9 now instead of $35.
well, it costs ~$15 shipped now, and it's gonna cost $40 later.
And you'd need a ~$15 shield to have a decent video output that supports more than 480p.
>>
>>52684857
I've had it pre-ordered since day one, I'm gonna turn it into a little emulator and plug a controller into it. Those RCA outputs are sexy.

Only bought it for the pocket chip.
besides that it will be useless.
also I ordered it in november and it won't be here till june; when I won't give a fuck about it in the least.

The pocket chip buttons are gonna suck.
>>
>>52684857
How thick is it? They don't mention on their page.
>>
It's not shipping that gets it, it's all the addon boards to make it useful to normies that recoup costs.
>>
>>52685029
Are you talking native or chroot?
Also, could you indulge me with a link kind anon? Just someone who's done what you're talking about the way you're thinking.
>>
>>52686160
If you're using zeros to make a cluster or something then what you're saying is shit.
It's $5 per unit, and that's all I'm having to pay.
I'll link it over GPIO
>>
>>52687445
>everyone has forks and knives (if their not britcucks)

lol wut? since when did we not have knives and forks familia?
