can someone explain wtf is going on here? i use the software dual monitor tools to allow me to have my wallpapers stretch over both monitors. i never encountered this issue before.
reinstalling the software did nothing, so i assume there is a different problem causing this? it's pretty damn frustrating. idk why the fuck it's doing this. when i go back to single monitor the wallpapers do not clip.

I've got a problem with a programming terminal. I've googled up the manuals for it with no luck at all. As it stands I have some sort of error when I boot that causes it to need to be reconfigured each time. It had an issue with the memory battery, so i replaced both (over 10 year old) batteries with new ones and it stopped throwing that error. Now it has some sort of drive error I can't really troubleshoot further without the manual, and it seems I need software I have been unable to find.
Contacting the company is useless as I need a paid support contract to talk to them, and it's too old. I've got a memory error on my PLC that i am relying on the terminal for going through and checking out so I can get that properly set up, so at least for projects I rather want to get it fixed. Anyone know of a manual or source for a manual or software, or worked with these before and knows the fix?

Is there anything inherently bad about buying a used watch?
I'm not buying it for collectors purposes, but to wear as something nicer than the Suunto Ambit and the Bulova "hack" watch I have now.

Did that, checked them with my multimeter. Both putting out their rated 3v. I put them into it only a couple months ago. My wild assed guess is the lack of a full proper boot is causing it to not get saved, but without the boot disks I have no clue.

Something that might bother mea little, I guess. Working in a cancer lab grossing chunks of human organs has kind of dulled my disgust of that.

How hard is it to remove the back to clean it? I'm sure there are special tools I need, or I can probably run to my local Sears/Kohls/wherever to have them remove it for me and then go back when I've cleaned it.

normally not that bad, just had to remember not to breathe immediately when you open it. Don't know why, but you for some reason need to hold the watch nearly directly against your face when you aren't working on them instead of a flat surface not like a normal person would/should do. Then you cut yourself with the screwdriver and scratch the back while trying to hold it with two hands. I was not naturally gifted at this job.

Been a while, but I don't remember anything special about the brand.

What are signs of a PSU being to weak for a current system? Completely shutting down?

I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem I have with my GPU right now. When it is under really heavy load, the kernel driver stops working (evga 780ti SC) after clocking it down a little bit it stopped doing that until I played a more recent game where it happened again. Can an underpowered PSU be the problem here? Or would it always result in a system shutdown?
I have a bequiet dark power pro 10 550w which does deliver enough amps through the 12V rails, iirc. Though they recommended using a 600W PSU and my CPU is overclocked (i5 3750k running at 4,2 Ghz)

I had an undersized PSU. First symptom was cables plugged into the high consumption parts making loud snapping sounds, charring the plugs and melting the plugs so the wires fell out, as well as melted insulation. That later progressed to the power supply completely cutting out.
They'll let you know if they are over capacity, kernel driver issues should have nothing at all to do with your PSU size.

Clean off thermal paste with a satisfactory substance and reapply. Remember-less is more.

Apply about the size of a grain of rice. Some choose to spread it out with an old credit card, but that isn't really needed. Just squish it down firmly and secure the fan. Tight but not extremely tight, do it by hand.

The thermal paste acts as a barrier between imperfections on the surfaces of the chip and the fan, it's supposed to fill in the cracks. The more there is between the surfaces, the less efficient it is.

I have 3 monitors I want to use for nvidia surround.
The middle monitor is 27" 1440p, the other 2 are ~23" 1080p.

In the nvidia control panel, I "overclock" the 2 1080p displays so their dpi are similar to the middle 1440p monitor (2240x1260).

This allows me to seemlessly move my cursor across my monitors as if they were all the same resolution.

I can set them all up to run at 3x1080p surround, but I want to be able to use my custom resolution, OR set up the 2 1080p monitors to "overclock" to 1440p.

so
>(1080p)(1440p)(1080p)
would be set up as
>(1260p[oc])(1440p)(1260p[oc])
OR
>(1440p[oc])(1440p)(1440p[oc])

Any idea if I can do this? I'm using a gtx 780.

Best "replacement" for a Windows/Linux PC is Android since you can have good file managers (es file explorer), OTG support, mouse and keyboard support, customization, advanced features via root and so on...
But on a big enough tablet you might want to consider Windows 10 (not windows phone) so that you'll have a true computer.

Depends on what company and where you live.
For example, before I moved a year ago, I had the options of comcast, AT&T or DirectTV. I started with AT&T and a 6Mbps download speed, which never got above .5Mbps in any test. Their customer support was horrible as well when there were issues, such as outages. I switched to comcast and paid about the same amount and got 50Mbps download, and all tests showed it being in practice closer to 65. I stuck with Comcast when I moved as the three options were the same, and now that I am in a city and not a rural area I pay roughly $40 a month (it will be about $80 when the new signup offer ends) and get 100Mbps down and depending on the day tests go from 5-10Mbps upload. Fiber is really rare here. It's pretty much wherever you go you have a DSL, a cable and a satellite option, but they each have their own territories, so you get to deal with monopoly A, B, or C. I've never had an issue of limited data or anything, and I've run fairly large quantities of torrents of fairly high quality content. It depends on your plan and area.

So I cloned one Windows install to another SSD using GParted Live, cloning both the "system reserved" and the actual partition. I then marked the "reserved" as bootable as the first one is as well, and when I select the drive it managed to load the boot loader but then boots the old system from the old SSD (it's still plugged in). How do I go about repairing it?
>>
>>52688692
What's the boot order in the bios? Why don't you just empty the old drive?
>>
>>52688732
Because I fear that if I empty the old SSD the new won't boot since the bootloader on the new SSD seems to load the OS from the old SSD (as if it was UUID based), so if I empty the old SSD, I'll probably by greeted by a boot failure since the system won't be found. And yes, the new SSD is set as primary boot device in BIOS whereas the old SSD is disabled from the boot devices altogether.
>>
>>52688337
>Some way to disable the Option and Shift keys?

If it's still under warranty send it away. You've got to take the whole case apart to get to the keyboard which obviously will void the warranty.

Yes I just tried that to confirm that it won't work (as expected). Let me illustrate the issue.

Disk 0 is my old SSD, the first partition is the bootloader ("system reserved"), the second is the catual system partition.

Disk 2 is my new SSD, the same partition scheme, the partitions were cloned using GParted.

Now, I set the Disk 2 Part 0 as boot partition and built the MBR. The problem I suspect is that each of these partitions have underlying UUIDs assigned, and the bootable partition on Disk 2 has the UUID of the system partition on Disk 0 set as the system partition (where to load the kernel from). So I guess it's about figuring out how to force the bootloader on the new SSD to look for the system on the second partition on the /new/ SSD rather than /old/. On Linux it's a matter of replacing fstab entries (for UUID based boot settings). I've no idea how to do that on Windows.

Yes, some do. I don't know about satelite for phone service, but I know they offer tv and internet. Comcast I believe has a tv/internet/phone option and AT&T did phone and internet. Of course you could just get one part of those packages if you wanted POTS and sat tv and cable internet for example.

Dear /g/,
I am planning to assemble this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GhJtjX
I don't know what the fuck I'm doing but I am 98% sure that I need some cables that aren't included with their respective parts. Namely to connect the optical drive to the motherboard-maybe more. If you also know where to buy them that would be fantastic.
I think I might also need additional case fans to compensate for the supa hot vcard so feedback or recommendations there would be greatly appreciated. I'd prefer to avoid having it sound like a jet is taking off nearby every time I turn it on.
If it looks like I might be making an obvious mistake (besides not getting an OS install disk, Ethernet cord, headset, or mouse as I have those already) please point it out; No matter how retarded I'd have to be to do such a thing. Even if you think nobody could possibly be that stupid I assure you that I can.
Thank you for your time.
Love, anon.

P.S. Is this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004Z5D1 a good antistatic strap? I assume they're all pretty much the same but just thought I'd check.

you don't need an antistatic strap. just touch the metal on the pc case before handing components. you just need a sata cable to connect the optical drive to the motherboard. your motherboard should come with 2-3 of them. the stock fans on that case should do fine
>>
>>52689340
if the motherboard is any decent it comes with all the cables, you don't need more.
why even have an optical drive? it's pointless.
the noctua already comes with thermal paste, no need for that as well.

also you don't need a fucking antistatic strap unless you assembly computers all day.
touch something grounded before touching the insides, that's enough.

That's making too hard m8.

I just want to click a shortcut and for cmd to start in this folder with these commands already input.

Right now I have to open the folder, right click open command window here, then type in: youtube-dl -F manually, then I paste my youtube url..

i'd rather just click shortcut then simply paste the url without having to all the other stuff.

Jesus Christ, first you make the dumbass decision of downloading from youtube instead of getting your movies or music or whatever in good quality from trackers. Second, you complain that it's too hard.

Why
>>
>>52690352
ok first of all you have 2 problems to solve:
first of all you need to detect whenever a code tag is opened and when it's closed. shouldn't be harder than a string matching. since it's running on the host machine you don't have to optimize much.
the second problem is how you highlight the actual code once you've found it.
i found this [https://highlightjs.org/] JS library. it pretty much covers it.
when it comes to the actual code i'm afraid i don't have the time for that. look for some very quick and basic JS tutorials on w3schools.

This version is the only one I find tolerable. Appchan has far too many things going on at once, and the other ones are way too simple. This one is the perfect balance between simplicity and customization.

Consider two packet switches directly connected by a link of 500 km, propagation speed 2 x

10^8 m/s and transmission rate 2 Mbps. How long does it take to move a packet of length 1,000 bits

from one packet switch to the other packet switch? Generally, how long does it take to move a

packet of length L over a link of distance d, propagation speed s, and transmission rate R bps?

so far i got 0,0025 for propagation time and 0,0005x2 for transmission time but im not sure.

I really want to get stereo mix working on my computer, so I can record my audio output.
I've tried all the usual (right click show hidden and disabled devices yadda yadda), and google can literally not help past that. It seems like it's a motherboard thing from some others with same "problem". My motherboard is an MSI Z87 MPOWER.

I don't really know anything about sound drivers and stuff, but here's a screenshot of my devices if that tells you anything. I'm not sure what is what though.

Should I try manually installing some new drivers, and if so, for which devices? What controls the stereo mix?

What all do you have installed?
If you have skylake did you make sure you didn't need a bios update?

My second monitor went black today. Let me describe the situation and you can just tell me if it's completely fucked or if I can still do something.

If I turn it on, it just shows the proper image for about half a second(maybe a bit darker than it should be, but I can't really tell) and then goes blank. The power light is still on, it's completely recognized by my pc and I can change it's settings, but it's completely black as if it's turned off. After some googling, I tried lowering the brightness settings and other such shit, but nothing worked. Also for about the last year or so, its bottom right corner has been flickering.

I tried putting a print statement after the fstring, but it's the same. It also did the same thing when I moved the fstring and print to the beginning of the script, so I think it's not parsing the SysArg file.

get a flashlight and point it at the monitor when it's black, see if it's just the backlight that's fucked up. It might be worth opening up and seeing if an internal cable is loose or fucked up in some way, but unless it's a very expensive monitor it's probably easier to just send it back if under warranty or just buy a new one.

I think I have a $600 paperweight here. I have clean installs of both O.S. systems(Ubuntu 14. and Win10) but still experience problems.

My Ubuntu partition just doesn't work, even on its second install. Ubuntu refuses to work with it and I can't adjust the brightness at all, but when I installed Ubuntu on my sister's laptop everything ran fine. The only reason I need ubuntu is to use gimp and krita, but since it cant run my tablet its pretty useless.

My Win10 partition have driver errors as well. Unfortunately Dell didn't plan on supporting this laptop in Win10, and they didn't update the old drivers on their site at all.

I really just need a laptop for digital design that is at least 15".

So my qustion is, what is a good laptop for digital design?

Most of the laptops at Best Buy had bad screens and I really didn't see anything I wanted besides the thinkpads there, but they run superfish don't they?

>>52691756
if you're up to it you could probably repair/replace the backlight. it's worth keeping the monitor around just to do that project. though it would mean finding the right backlight, opening the monitor, possibly soldering. the cost of the actual backlight should be minimal though.

I'm getting a "being used by process" error, which is probably because the epub is opened by the script and thus can't be renamed (shutil.move(fpath, os.path.join(base, new_name))). How do I get around that without having to duplicate all the files?

get an expansion card. just search for "sata card" or "RAID card", most of them are made for RAID and such setups, and the ones that specialize in that can be very expensive, but if you just want more sata ports you can get really cheap ones that will fit in PCI/PCIE. alternatively get some adapters and plug them into your spare USB ports. speed will be shit but it doesn't really matter for a mechanical drive.
>>
>>52691884
Backlight repairs aren't that bad, I replaced the power supply and backlight in an old CCFL one. Even if he just replaces it, it's a pretty good project to learn to work on stuff with.
