SILICON VALLEY

Just wait, only 2 more months to go until Pascal reveal
>>
>>52665437
Will it really be that much better though? Who's to say whatever they reveal won't be way more expensive than the 980Ti price to performance?

Don't buy into this infinite waiting meme op
>>
>>52665479
I guess I'll just bite the bullet and get the 980. evga has that stepup program to pay the difference and get the better card within 90 days anyway.
>>
>>52665524
>card releases in 91.6 days

get the Ti if anything, not the regular 980
>>

alternately get a cheaper gpu as sell it when the 1080ti releases

Not a consumer review site, faggot
>>
>>52665437
Ok, so say they reveal it at that time, what's the chance of a hard launch?
>"It's available in stores today!"
Even is Pascal is launched, it'll be way before HBM2 is ready, which means these will be GDDR5X cards, possibly refreshes of Maxwell.
Nvidia would never cripple Titan sales by releasing the Ti within three months of the Titan release, and they'll never release Titan at launch since they 1) need a good stock of full uncut chips and 2) HBM2 isn't ready anyway.
What we will get are equivalents of the GTX980/970/960 with GDDR5X most likely. The actual 980 Ti replacement is an easy 6-8 months out if you space things out logically.
>>

Asking about a product's worth i,e its price to performance ratio or whether to wait for another product is a technical question, I'm not asking for a review of the product you sack of shit. Report me.
>>
>>52665614
fine, buy a 390 for 300$ cheaper? it can handle 1440p decently enough. and you can absolutely sell it for 200$ when pascal drops

Are you implying 1080p/144hz is a 2k monitor?

Ok you really need to fuck off OP
>>
>>52665889
I'm implying he is pushing 1080p@144hz.
Which is exactly 1.35x more than 1440p@60hz in terms of processing.

Meaning he is probably an fps whore and uses that 980ti as such. Noving to 1440p@144hz and maintaining that would meaning turning down some settings to achieve that 144fps which he probably has no intention of doing.
>>
Yes the 980ti is worth it. It's a top tier card that can surpass a titan if overclocked. Buy a good variant, get a 1440p monitor and enjoy not upgrading for a few years at least.
>>
>>52665864

>buying high end 28nm with Polaris/Pascal just around the corner
Buy the cuck card or the 390.
Better yet, buy the 380 to hold you off and then buy the high end new generation cards.
>>
>>52667134
>Pascal just around the corner
Not him.

Pascal isn't really "just around the corner" in the context of high end cards. They might start putting out low end cards next quarter or so but the high end equivalent almost certainly won't be out until quite a while later.
>>
>>52667166
They're probably going with the Titan first. Buying a Titan is always retarded, but it will spell the the generation's performance on its side. Going with a 1070 or 1080 after the Titan is out might be great. The Ti will probably be next year and Volta is scheduled for that year.
>tfw always waiting
>>
>>52667209
Oh, yeah, I guess you could get a Titan. But that would be horribly overpaying (over a more typical use Ti) unless you have a specific application that actually makes it worth it for some reason.
>>
>>52665687

gddr5x's design hasn't even been standardized and won't be until we launch, gp100 and gp104 are both hbm2. consumer chips will be 4/8gb, 16gb on the flagship

>The actual 980 Ti replacement is an easy 6-8 months out if you space things out logically.

the '1080ti' is planned 3 months after the flagship, as it's always been, you idiot
>>
>>52665524

There could be other unusual factors in this too, like VRAM. In that case they could definitely trade blows even if the 780 Ti tends to perform better most of the time. A framerate of 24 is pretty awful regardless.
>>
>>52668400
Assuming you bought your 980 within 90 days of the 980TI's launch, then yes.

Realistically though, the step up program is usually a bad deal. You pay the difference between LIST price, which is typically more than the difference is at a retailer.
>>
>>52670129
jesus fuck, you need a supercomputer just to get playable frame rates in this piece of garbage, gg Bethesda
>>
>>52670129
FYI the titan which is a 780 Ti with more vram comes severly underclocked and has firmware that throttles the card severly before 80°C. On stable overclock of 1200mhz at 1.212v, a titan is only 5% less performance than a 980 at 1400mhz.
>>
>>52670437
>Bethesda
>a well optimized game
pick one and only one. That POS engine is held together with more duct tape than an episode of the red green show at this point
>>
>>52670437
I had massive framerate problems on a 970 and 4690k, turns out all I had to do was disable godrays, and run it in fullscreen (as opposed to windowed fullscreen) and I am now running a steady 70fps.

I should be running 144 since the game doesn't look particularly nice, but >Bethesda
>>
>>52665416

only wait if you are using a 4k screen, otherwise the 980ti should be good for years with 1080p and 1440p.
>>
>>52672948
I feel like a 970 performs really well at 1440p too. Most benchmarks I've seen have the 970 only 3-5ish fps behind the Ti at 1440p.

Would it be smart to buy a 970 and then buy the next gen card with the money saved not buying a 980 Ti now? I'm going to be doing most of my gaming in 2k and benchmarks show that 970s are fine anyway.
>>
>>52674111
Don't think a 970 can handle 2k maxed out with the gimped vram
>>
>>52674016
Do you really have to post pictures of that same anime girl everywhere on /g/? Wasn't getting banned for your makispam enough to understand that it's getting pretty tiresome.

Yes, we can see that maki is your waify and that you live her VERY much, but we're sort of getting tired of you posting pictures of her in pretty much every thread here on /g/.
>>
Guys i wish to have a 2 monitor setup - 2 x 1920x 1200 but wish to play games like BF3, BF4, STALKER only on one. AND use it for Maya and such.

Is the 960 GTX good enough for the job ?? Or should I wait for the 10-0 series ??
>>
>>52674327
>being this ass blasted over anime on a anime image board
>>
>>52674285
I'd rather get a card now that performs 30 - 60fps in 2k (which is what most benchmarks show) in most demanding games, then spend another like 300 USD next year and get a card as good as the 980 Ti or better instead of getting the Ti now and it being trash next year like the 780 Ti is now.
>>
>>52674357
No, wait for Polaris
>>
Wait 2 months and see, you'll get lower prices because no one will buy GTX 980 Ti after Pascal demoed at GTC 2016
>>
>>52674508
But should i then buy a new 104 series card OR should i buy a 970 / 980 on the cheap ??

>>52674529
WHAT IF the new cards are fucking expensive ?? 980 is not cheap.
>>
>>52673476

I have a 970, no OC though it is a FTW. It does really well in Metro redux@1440p, legit the only games I've played on it so far though.
>>
>>52674599
What frame rates do you get ?? Post full specs boss.
>>
>>52674614

FPS is 110-140, with everything maxed except AA, which is at .5.

Full specs, i5 6600k stock, EVGA 970 FTW stock, 8gigs RAM, korean 1440p monitor still at 60hz, though it will do 96 easy (hoping for 120 when my new dvi cable comes in).
>>
>>52674865
Thanks man, seems like i will be purchase the 970 soon then !
>>
>>52674547
390 and 390x were no more than $500 at launch. I think polaris will be worth the weight.
>>
>>52674909

A lot of people here make "lol 3.5GBS!!!" jokes but there's a reason it became a meme card to begin with. It's extremely well positioned on the price-performance scale and not stupidly expensive.

>>
>>52675019
It isn't a good card get a 390. The 390 shits all over the 970 in the 2k range.
>>
>>52674865
You shouldn't have gone with the meme card, metro has the nvidia physx logo, and nvidia shill works too, no other game, near that sort if quality, is gonna run that we'll on a 970. You either have shit turned down, or you are lieing
