Girlfriend needs a laptop for school. Pretty much will only be using for word processing, some streaming. Anything you guys would recommend?
Budget around 300$
Get literally anything that is not a thinkpad.
Any cheap laptop from that price range will do, but lightness and a trackpad are probably key features here. Find a nice laptop fitting on the price range, check reviews to see if there are huge problems and if features your gf wants are there.
You do this until you have maybe three machines, and you let your gf pick.
Give her sub-1.5kg lightweight lappy.Pink hp stream will do.
Get one of those mini laptops and install Linux and WPS or libreoffice and get a little more ram (optional)
>if it gets broken you won't lose a lot of investment
>fast if once you get out the winlag virus
Comes with a 1 year warranty as well, it also has a 900p display.
>You do this until you have maybe three machines, and you let your gf pick.
this is by far the most important part, let her believe she has the final word on that, think of it as a warranty in case anything goes wrong.
>this is by far the most important part
Can you imagine what this dumb cunt would have done if a guy picked this for her?
get one with a decent keyboard
you can buy a 1st gen toshiba chromebook 2 with a nice keyboard and 1080p IPS screen and 8 hrs of battery life for $175, you can't get a better browsing/writing/portable machine for that type of price
>4hrs of battery life if you get a low-cycle count (don't bet on it)
>cool and quiet
For $175 you are going to be looking at an X201 at best
Lad, can ya please make these tech support threads over at /wsr/?
I know /wsr/ is a little slow and somewhat empty right now but it will definitely improve over time. You can help by helping others over there too.
/g/ becomes a low quality boards when we are bombarded with tech support threads because even if you filter them it makes threads talking about technology get archived faster and less likely to be noticed by others.
It's 3 pounds you shill.
>8 hours battery
Of course, it's running a fucking Celeron
>processor doesn't matter
Considering streaming probably means YouTube, Twitch, or some other shit that uses Flash or Silverlight, yes it does. Even the reviews say it will stutter on content-rich websites.
Also, I just bought a x220 with 4 GB RAM and a 128 GB SSD for $180, so no you can definitely get something better than a x201.
The resolution and IPS is nice on a Chromebook, but the processor and SSD space is trash.
If you honestly asked a chick what laptop she preferred after giving her both the thinkpad and the chromebook for a week, I would GUARANTEE you she would prefer the chromebook
The screen makes it no contest. The non-autist design just seals the deal
