I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Windows 10, is in fact, NSA/Windows 10, or as I've recently taken to callingit, NSA plus Windows 10. Windows 10 is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another proprietary component of a fully functioning NSA system made useful by the NSA spyware, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined
by US central command.

Many computer users run a modified version of the NSA system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of NSA spyware which is widely used today is often called Windows 10, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the NSA spyware, developed by the NSA as part of the PRISM project.

There really is a Windows 10, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Windows 10 is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to spy on the user and send it to the microsoft servers where they can legally sell it to the NSA and other companies without the consent of the user due to CISA. Windows 10 is an essential part of the spy network, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete surveilance
system. Windows 10 is normally used in combination with the NSA system: the whole system is basically NSA with Windows 10 added, or NSA/Windows 10. All the so-called Windows 10 versions are just different versions of NSA/Windows 10.

I will always buy Microsoft Windows™ because the future starts now™. Microsoft also pioneers innovative new technologies like DirectX™, Office™, and the highest quality operating system to ever grace computers.
When I boot up with a brand new computer running Microsoft Windows™ with the latest Z chipset powered by Intel™ and latest Nvidia™ graphics, I can enjoy the games the way they where meant to be played™. Microsoft™ also pioneers in the gaming field with its latest Xbox™ console to allow gamers to play on their big screens with family and friends.
Microsoft Windows™ is also very secure. It's the most secure operating system on the planet. It's harden against NSA probes, tested by highly trained and experienced programming engineers to have ever graced this planet. With such innovative security technologies like UAC, Defender, Security Essentials, BitLocker, and Windows™ Firewall you can ensure all your sensitive data is secured and you're safe on the internet. Microsoft™ most advanced, and dare say, the most advance web browser on the market, Edge™, has decoupled addon support, like flash, to ensure maximum user safety when browsing the web. You can ensure Microsoft™ keeps you safe from the NSA.
At this point in time there's really no reasons to consider Linux. I tried once. It caused my Nvidia™ graphics to overheat so much due to its poor quality, novice programmed, open source drivers that it exploded and nearly burnt down my house.
It's quite clear that OPs a Linux shill trying to convince you to settle on something less than the optimal experience with Windows™. Windows™ is the only real way to play games or do anything productive. We've seen that they offer incredible libraries for software developers like Visual Studio and Microsoft C++ Compiler. He is probably too poor to afford the Microsoft Windows™ experience and can not afford to play any games.
Don't be a poor gamer with bad security and no drivers. The Future Starts Now™ with Microsoft Windows™

There is no reason to not use Windows 10. It is the current year, after all.
All this talk of spyware and data collection is nothing but conjecture. Microsoft uses the collected data to improve the customer's experience, not for spying purposes.
All of you who are not using Windows 10 because it's supposedly spying on you are so paranoid, even if they were to use the data to spy on you, you shouldn't have anything to worry about, assuming you're not breaking the law.
Everyone who isn't using Windows 10 is automatically suspicious for this reason alone.

You're not doing anything illegal, are you?

You wouldn't break the law, would you?

You wouldn't even think about breaking the law, would you?

Since all Linux distros I tried fried my right palm because of how much my laptop's SSHD heated up on idle, I installed Windows 7. The SSHD was almost as hot, and touchpad drivers(Synaptics) sucked big time(scroll was sort of stuttering and the pointer was jumping around).

I installed Windows 8.1 and those issues went away. Sad I have to use Windows, but I'm taking the opportunity to play Japanese bullet hell's, visual novels and RPGs.

You are if you seriously think you're safe. Microsoft started working with PRISM before windows 7 and even if you aren't using windows 7 they can track you through your hardware.

http://www.cnet.com/news/nsa-reportedly-installing-spyware-on-us-made-hardware/

http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2013/12/inside-the-nsas-leaked-catalog-of-surveillance-magic/

No matter what you believe or want to believe you're getting spied on, you aren't safe, stop acting like you are. This is the same shit when people refused to upgrade to W7 and kept clinging onto XP.
>>
>>52626822
7 of course, will switch to linux at some point, I mean the only game I really play is dota, and that might run fine now, last time I tried the driver support just wasn't there

I also might just do the whole KVM GPU pass through if I get an 8350 in the near future
>>
>>52628524
its awlways annoyed me how low quality these slides are, and also all versions from 3.1 onwards are unsafe, and im sure linux has some dodgy back doors in it. Has anyone actually audited the code?
>>
>>52628568
It's low quality but it doesn't change the truth. This is also only what the government is doing, not what individual websites track and what your ISP knows about you which is literally everything if you're connected to the internet. You may have something to hide but they can find it if they want, nothing you do online or on your computer is safe and the sooner you realize that the sooner you can stop bitching about what OS someone decides to use and instead worry about the bigger issues like nearly every major hardware manufacturer spying on you for the government.
>>
>>52628240
>not playing meme of legends
wow, you're so cool
>>
>>52628595
yeah i agree
nothing to do at this point though
>>
>>52628635
Not really, but me using W10 for new video games and features like DX12 doesn't really change much in the long run. I know i'm getting spied on, the problem is why don't other people realize they are getting spied on with W7. The only way to not get spied on is to literally make your own hardware or get it from a weird foreign manufacturer and then use Unix and never go online ever and if you do then you better be behind a proxy.

There's no reason to avoid 10. The only ones who are are just being contrarian dumbasses.

The same thing happened when XP came out. Same thing with 7. It's a never-ending cycle of idiocy.
>>
>>52628524

There's a big difference between having a backdoor that could be used if you were actually an important target being singled out, or having all of your metadata collected by default. 7 may not be good enough for someone who really needs the security but for the average pleb who needs Windows and just doesn't want his shit in the cloud it's the best choice.

I still use 7 (updated up to the last August 2015 updates) and I will until stuff stops working with it anymore. After that I'll just finally switch to Linux for everything.

XP and Win7.

Got them pretty locked down.

I have made USB installer pens using NLite where I have stripped them down to bare minimum for my needs. Removed all drivers, files and services I dont need, tweaked and configured for speed and as much security as is possible with these OS's, added updates that matter, and they only have drivers for the computers I use.

Feels good to install in about half an hour, and it boots up with all my settings and tweaks already done.

My home router and firwewall/proxy take care of the heavy firewalling, and I use Tinyfirewall on the computers.

Me too. 8.1+ClassicShell. It's a bit lighter on resources than 7, and boots way faster. It also handles SSDs a bit better with reduced writes and TRIMming all unused space periodically to catch any the NTFS driver didn't TRIM already. On-the-fly filesystem repair is nice too, leads to less chkdsk repairs. Task manager is greatly improved and shows more useful info. Etc.

Downsides: Needs a 3rd party program to make the start menu not shit. Arguably uglier than Aero master race. Metro control panel sucks. Where the fuck did the wifi network list go and why do I now need to use the command line to uncheck "disconnect from this and try to connect to any random network that looks familiar even if it's a mile away" or view the password for a remembered network?

It'll could still work fine, but if something breaks because of some new thing, since the architectures aren't officially supported they're not going to patch or anything so that it does work

They're probably not even going to test?

Honestly this mainly hurts enterprises looking at new hardware but downgrading the OS because of some ancient piece of shit they "need" to work but the point is 7 is already starting to lose shit like this
>>
>>52633061
This gets me to wondering if someone will make a frankenstein setup with pieces of 7, 8.1 and 10. Sort of like that 3rd party "service pack" for Win98 that backported some nice stuff from WinME when it turned out to be a heap of shit.

The broken start menu issue apparently does have a known fix now, but didn't when I had it.

As for the temporary profile thing, it can apparently happen in 8.1 as well though I've never had it happen there. The only fix still seems to be to make a new profile and copy over your files.

forcibly obtaining personal data and then trying to block attempts to stop said retrieval is pretty fucking deliberate to me.

Do you know why they made it free? because you're literally the product. Why do you think they pushed telemetry so much?
>>
>>52627198
You sound EXACTLY like an Indian.

Go to Facebook and this and see Indians speak English, there you go.
>>
>Do you know why they made it free?

The upgrade is free.
A License still costs money, so on each new PC you're paying for it.

They probably made it free in hopes of getting people to move to the newer platform so they have less they need to support (dropping support for older platforms earlier than they otherwise could be able to)

That said, Windows 10 is pretty much still complete shit.
>>
>>52637352
Then tell me what personal data do they obtain through Windows exactly. (outside of using a Microsoft account, of course, because that's exactly the same as having a Google account on Android, for example)

You clearly don't even know what telemetry means. You very likely didn't know that every OS before W10 also had telemetry in one way or another, W10 just was more upfront about it. You don't actually believe that Windows 7 had no telemetry data collection before they released that "telemetry update", do you? How the hell do you think they made that decision of removing the start menu while developing Windows 8 because only a small percentage of users actually used it?

telemetry is EVERYWHERE, even on websites. And you lived with it your whole braodband-using life. Now one OS release decides to launch a more transparent ToS, and you idiots freak out like it's a brand new thing.

Why are you even on the technology board if you're so clueless about technology?

>>
>>52637508
>You very likely didn't know that every OS before W10 also had telemetry in one way or another
From the Win7 privacy policy:
>The personal information we collect from you will be used by Microsoft and its controlled subsidiaries and affiliates to enable the features you use and provide the services or carry out the transactions you have requested or authorized. The information may also be used to analyze and improve Microsoft products and services.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/windows-7-privacy-statement?T1=statement#T1=statement
From the current M$ privacy policy:
>Microsoft uses the data we collect for three basic purposes, described in more detail below: (1) to operate our business and provide (including improving and personalizing) the services we offer, (2) to send communications, including promotional communications, and (3) to display advertising.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/privacystatement/
Windows 7 telemetry was used for M$ development to improve their software. Windows 10 telemetry is BLATANTLY used for advertising purposes.

>telemetry is EVERYWHERE, even on websites.
Block ads and scripts and there is none.
>>
>>52628524
Fuck you...xp is still the best
>>
>>52637508
You're missing the whole point of the Win10 meme.

Telemetry in xp, macos, *nixes and win7 can be locked down, and you still retain the full functionality of the O.S.

Telemetry in Win10 can only be partially locked down, but it severely gimps the O.S.

Which translates to a product you paid money for, which only gives you a fraction of it's promised functionality.

Also, just knowing the definition of telemetry doesnt mean you automatically have to accept it and feel comfortable sharing it.

That's the privacy policy for the Microsoft accounts, you retard. OF COURSE they use the data for targeted ads. Exactly the same as Google. And Apple. And Amazon. And Facebook. And Twitter. And most places on the internet where you can make an account.

>Block ads and scripts and there is none.

Windows 7 for vidya.

I don't think I'll ever upgrade considering vidya is truly going to shit.

For everything else, there's FreeDOS.

>You guys probably did a clean install of 10. I seem to have gotten a severely botched upgrade install. Refreshing it wouldn't even work.

The handle is translucent in Vista, I guess the translucent head in 7 is a reference to the translucent taskbar

Like you have to be a autist to object to the fb terms of service..?

Clause 2 states that all copyright protected content, and in particular photos and videos that
users post may be used by Facebook in either non-commercial or commercial way. Because
the license is non-exclusive, users retain the right to continue to use and exploit their content as
well in any way they deem suitable (e.g. grant licences to other parties).

The license is transferable and sub-licensable, implying that Facebook may authorize any
third party to use protected content of an individual user and receive payment for it. The license
is furthermore royalty-free, which implies that users will not receive any form of remuneration nor
share in the proceeds that Facebook might collect from third parties in consideration of an
authorisation to use photos or videos from users.

The license is worldwide, so Facebook may allow use of a user’s content on a worldwide basis.
In principle, the license is terminated when the protected materials (photos and or/videos) are
deleted. However, if the content has been shared with other users who have not deleted it from
their profile, the license continues to apply until the date of deletion of a particular content by
every user with whom the content has been shared. So basically, the license may be of a perpetual
nature in cases where content is shared with others.

The usual argument of normies is I fucking have nothing to hide, so why should I worry if they spy on me. This is the most retarded excuse ever, they don't necessary have to know what kind of porn you watch or what l33t haxor files you got, take the more general cases. Someone has a fucking heart disease for example, starts jewgeling about symptoms of heart disease, types of heart surgeries and their prices.... Get's tracked go to insurance company and they tell him to fuck off and die.

Enjoy your botnet faggots

if they have been collecting information to "improve the customers experience" since windows 7 and before....

why havent they been listening? why did they decide to do whatever the fuck they want?
why do they need more info than a decade+ worth to do almost nothing with it? oh thats right... becuase they don't give a fuck, they a re a business and will follow the money/market shifts.
