At what point of life you realised social media is just a waste of time?
since the beginning. I never really understood the logic of social media. When I scroll through an Instagram feed, as an example, I just get this overwhelming thought that every single person is subliminally saying "Look at me, haha oh meeee, Look at what I did today! Wow, would you get a load of ME!? God, someone really needs to notice what I'VE been doing. Ha oh wow! Me!" It's just funny to me.
in 2005 I opened a facebook account and closed it less than 6 months after. Never been back, always refused to. When people ask me why, the answer is always the same : I hate to see how dumb my friends truly are.
Buddy was being shipped of to Iraq, invited me over to hi5, and it was a new thing. Was off by a year.
>hardly any social network before FB
Nigga, you young.
Around 2008. Haven't had fecesbook or other identifying account anywhere.
I remember when I first got internet back in '98 that the thing you absolutely shouldn't do is give away information that could identify you, it's why we all used weird nicknames on IRC and gaming forums. This hasn't changed for me.
>back in '98 that the thing you absolutely shouldn't do is give away information that could identify you,
So much this. I wonder at what point did it go from "don't post your name online because the pedos will get you" to everyone photographing their food. And why.
years ago man, years.
I never cared for most people, they weren't my friends. Why bother having them on facebook or being on facebook at all ?
I don't know how people can stand to use that site without an adblocker, at least most of those micro transaction games have moved into the app store now.
You can't count on most of those people for anything, if anything FB/Twitter/whatever is just another messaging platform.
What irks me a bit is how companies like twitter want it to be some global platform for discussion and then at the same time try to censor shit and tell people which apps they can or cannot use
and now companies like FB are flexing their power through FB bascis, which of course gives people in poor india free internet, and by internet I mean FB + whatever FB allows..
I wold argue that blogging and comment sections were the genesis of most social media platform features.
2007, when Tumblr came about, MySpace was slowly dying and Facebook really took off. Why? Smartphones, tablets and mobile internet. Thus began the normie invasion and the concentration of many websites into a few major websites that we all know today, with normies obviously comes a lot money because they're retarded and click on any ad or pay for whatever gets advertise to them the most.
i got rid of my facebook in 2013
i still have a twitter, but i just write dumb shit that pops in my mind for my weird internet friends to laugh at, no real life shit on there
never had any other social media, unless snapchat counts.
At age of 24.
Every time when I open fb I have to take a deep breath especially now when im involved with work and other people that dont want to take responsibility.
Normies overestimate their power when they are online, somehow they think they can say whatever they want and not reflect on the real world which makes me physically ill.
My heart jump up when I see my inbox showing messages from those people.
This stress cant be good and I cant wait to be over which few more months.
What is facebook but a glorified blog?
You type shit about your life, you post pictures, you post on other peoples blogs, you post pictures on other peoples blogs.
Is the same exact shit
Blogging is social media and as >>52618439 was at least earliest form of it.
wordpress is a singular blog, each person can download wordpress and make their own site. disconnected from the other wordpress'. How ever livejournal, geocities, xanga all had a centralized hub on a website that you signed up for and were part of their social network.
So no wordpress does not.
Nice try though. Think it through a little more on your rebuttle
>social media = using your real name + face + real friends in a somewhat closed circuit
>blogging = using a nickname + people you will never meet in a open world
just kill your family senpai
>FB only open to college students initially
>not for normies to begin with
I generally agree with you, after they start chasing money/a larger user base it all goes down hill from there.
social media comes in various degrees.
You can do the same shit on FB and twitter. Why do you think fake accounts exist?
Can we just agree that e-mail and profiles are not social media?
Maybe now with facebooks global censorship and fascism. But my facebook is not my name, it was a random name i came up with and it still only has a number id to link to my profile. It is deactivated for close to a decade now.
People blog on their own website with their own name and face and have work/ real life friends on there. There are multiple tech blogs like this, with tech insiders.
So nice try yet again.
>moving goal posts
Can be done, has been done, and is still social content creation. The fake-stevejobs example holds, hell that twitter account been quoted by every media outlet ever when it was still up.
What you said has no relevance to what i said.
>website has your real name and other information
>website has your friends and family and how they relate to you
>website has logs of your private conversations
>but your public phone number for security reasons? THAT CROSSES THE LINE
Social media is as much of a waste of time as any other media. But unlike other media, social media has the added benefit of documentation.
years from now, my kids will see how I met their mother because of facebook.
Theyll be able to see the videos ive watched and favorited on youtube.
And they'll be able to see all the shitpost ive made because of twitter and through screencaps I put up on imgur
Like 2011/2012. Nowadays I use it to shitpost and troll liberals through my university confessions page.
>go to submission site (it's not connected to Facebook)
>admins receive text from me and others in a large excel spreadsheet
>they copy paste a few a day on facebook
>takes about 5-6 days for yours to get posted
>log on Facebook through normal browser
>see meltdown of sjws
Facebook is a circlejerk and I'm surprised normies haven't seen this.
I got in touch with an old female workmate and are now dating, so no, it's not a waste of time.
Why must people assume all there's to do on Facebook is watch inane links and clickbait sites?
The admins are students at the school and they receive lots of confessions. The delay (5-6 days) is the usual time I've noticed it takes for submissions to get posted.
>submit on 16
>gets posted on 22
>Also visiting here talking to you guys (my only friends)
>all social media except 4chan is a waste of time
>b-but n-no anon, I learn stuff here! Just last week some anon bullied us into thinking about how much of a waste of time social media is!
When I first made my facebook page, I was really attention seeking and lonely.
Then a year or so into highschool I made some good friends, but they didn't really use facebook much either, so I no longer needed it.
When I went to college and got new (replacement) friends, I didn't need facebook either.
There was nothing it could really offer me that would prompt me to have an account.
Just call or talk to people. And if you really need to use text, there are many better ways to communicate than through the laggy facebook messaging system.
Around the 2nd year of use, It was back when farmville and such became a big thing and it was really fucking annoying to use. I just use it to message friends and haven't closed it because people will think i am creep.
The name for the page had the name of the university (to gain followers easier). University (conservative military state school) never cared nor tried to censor the page.
Well as with everything, the good times have to end. And some retard submitted a confession with the word nigger. Page got locked down. They got the ban lifted and then like 2-3 months later they changed the name to just a nickname for a student at the school. They still keep the racist language ban because alumni visit the page sometimes and there's nothing wrong with conducting yourself with a bit more professionalism.
A long time ago, but when did you guys realize that 4chan is a waste of time?
I'm using leachblock to reduce my time spent to 50 minutes a day, and not all 5+ hours everyday.
When your realize your family doesn't want any real contact with and you don't have any real friends. I just Facebook to lie to myself that I'm happy, even though I know that I'm really not.
I literally just had this thought regarding Snapchat a couple hours ago.
I get something like Facebook, atleast there you can exchange information, have college/organisation pages, make a creator's profile, etc.
But with shit like Instagram or (even worse) Snapchat you can't even do that. It's mindless staring at your phone, not real socialising with human beings, and just a gigantic waste of everyone's time.
Never used any of them.
Had a yahoo account up till 2002, switched to having a mail and file server at home that year, which I still use.
Did a double take when the cloud became a buzzword, and kicked myself for not having been smart enough to market it.
Anywhoo, I havent missed out on anything of importance.
Bonus is that I dont have a single pic or blog anywhere online, nor forum post, shit or otherwise, which can be traced to me.
=>inb4 NSA knows everything
Yeah, they probably do, but I dont give a shit.
Yeah, so, no, never have, never will.
